I watched this a million times. I cried a million times.

Shout out to The Land Before Time and Indian in the Cupboard.

If these VHS were landmarks of my childhood, then those of my impending adulthood would undoubtedly be Independence Day, Godzilla, and most importantly, The Matrix.

I taped my movies off of TV, we had a really extensive library of classics and 80s and 90s films.
Yeah, early VHS movies were like NINTEY BUCKS early on, so we copied shit from HBO or off TV, trying to edit out the commercials as best we could.

I do recall that my first CD movie was a porn bought from the back of a NYC video store....good times :p

Remember when we would have the dedicated VHS rewinder to save wear and tear on the main VHS player?

And you had to make the decision to break off that little tab to prevent recording over something, but then you had so save up for another tape :p

My Dad rented me and my brother Bigfoot and the muscle machines when we first got our vcr.
Watched some really weird shit on Betamax before that.
"Barbapapa" weird ass cartoon.

My first was The Phantom Menace, and then sometime shortly thereafter was the Indiana Jones movies given to me by my uncle. That's all I can remember. We were transitioning to DVD around the same time.

The first VHS tape I bought was the movie Mr. Mom. I got it from McDonalds in the late 80s back when they used to occasionally sell movies as promotional items with certain food purchases. Somebody put together a partial list which I found particularly interesting.

We got Dances with Wolves with the 1992 promotion then Addams Family, Wayne's World, and Charlotte's Web with the 1993 promotion.

Something I completely forgot about was getting a VHS from I think a Pic N Save in like 1986 when I was 6 that had Popeye and Mighty Mouse and maybe one other that I can't remember.

It was some PGA game with Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicholaus that came with the VHS player.
Other than that - I was more of a recording person, so I recorded a lot of anime that I was watching on TV.

First VHS tape that I bought with my own money was... Die Hard. Unfortunately it became my ESL tutorial, and I learned some real bad words from it. Yippee Ki-yay MF was one of them.. :(

I couldn't say the first.

I know my parent's had a best of John Belushi SNL tape that I watched quite a bit.

Also a recorded copy of The Sword in the Stone disney movie, that got much use. Then another with Ernie Reyes Jr. that I remembered as a movie, but after searching long and hard, finally discovered what I had was a show called Sidekicks someone recorded for me. All I remember is him trying to hear his own heartbeat.

Batman 89 is probably the only one i can remember as a new sealed movie gifted to me. I was likely no more than 5yrs old.
My father did own all the Indiana Jones and BTTF 1. I played those on repeat.

I think it was some compilation of old school warner brothers cartoons, like shit from the 50s and 60s. I must have been 4 or 5 in the late 80s.

80% of the VHS movies we owned after that was taped off TV anyway, complete with commercial breaks we had to fast forward every time

Even the original Star Wars trilogy... badly recorded off TV with commercials, that's the way I experienced it over and over

When I first gained consciousness as a child we already had a lot of VHS because we operated a VHS rental.

Maybe Land Before Time? It was played at least two times a day for my viewing pleasure. It’s practically mine and was not permitted to be rented lol.

Obviously one of the best trilogies / movies ever made. I was a pretty young at the time and knew nothing about the books or franchise

The younger me wasn't aware this was going to be a trilogy and thought my dad was joking around when the movie ended

We still rewatch the trilogy together ever other year. Such a treat.

It definitely wasn't the first movie I had on VHS, but I'm pretty sure the last movie I bought on VHS was The Phantom Menance.

I don't remember. My early tapes were all copied in SLP mode 3-4 to a tape. Probably the most high-tech thing my dad has ever done. He has an engineering degree though and can dig a mean footing.

First one I owned myself?

Now, if we're talking first ones I remember my family owning, it was the Star Trek movies, and they all lined up together to show the Enterprise.
