What will be PS6s unique selling point?

Built in titty tassels you slap on that shock you when you take damage. With motion controls too when playing walking simulators to move forward swing them clock wise.

Not being a PC (but still somewhat performant).

And lots of delayed or scrapped games... Oh wait, that won't be unique.

Better graphics than the switch, cheaper than the Xbox / PC.

It will still be expensive. Xbox is raising the bar in pricing, and Sony isn't really known for leaving money on the table.

Next gen is going to be expensive. There will be less games at a higher price, along with more expensive hardware.

Cloud gaming may become the only affordable option for some.
Cloud gaming will be far more expensive than what we currently have.

I sold my series X after 3 months of owning it lol. I owned every PlayStation after ps2.

I said I won't be buying either at launch.

What don't you understand ?

Yeah your right the Xbox pc must be cheaper and offer more performance than an mini itx build to be even considered.

It will be a console and pc just like steam deck is a console and pc.
Well in that case, if you aren't buying both then what is your rant even about? You aren't interested, you don't care, so why the concern?

The PS6 USP is...... It's a PlayStation, it's a console, it will be relatively cheap and decently powerful. You go off on one about exclusives, it will still have exclusives (most are for 12 months as it stands, some may never be cross platform such as Gran Turismo), GAAS being the outliers as they go cross platform straight away, as they should do. But Sony could change that whenever they like, they are in control of their own exclusives and if this new XBox PC affects their sales (doubtful) then they could change that strategy however they see fit.

Ps6 will definitely be solid value at launch, and thats assuming its still relatively pricey aka 800$discless.

Its problem gonna be 4-5years down the line if current trend continues- aka price hikes while at the same time we getting cheap more performant pc hardware(both cpu and gpu).

I will use ps5 example, it was 500$(400$ discless) at launch while back then we had bit stronger 400$ priced 3060ti with only 8gigs of vram and about 15% weaker from ps5 3060 priced 330$ with 12gigs vram(which customers chose) and it was middle of cryptoboom so those prices were just msrp, actual streetprice was much higher- up to 2x even if u didnt live close to microcenter/were unucky with online sniping vs all those bots/scalpers(not mentioning amd coz they are below 1% of the market unfortunately, basically no1 bought those cards last few years).

Now in 2025 we got 750$/(800€) ps5pr0 while about 5% faster in raster(and much better in ai/rt) 16gigs 5060ti is streetprice 430$ now, hell 16gigs 9060xt which is at least on pair with ps5pr0 both in raster and ai upscaling/rt is streetprice 360$ now(just as an anecdote, barely any1 buys amd cards).

TLDR: ps5 at launch had really great value proposition, ps5pr0 has really terrible value proposition now 5years later...

What was PS5 "unique" selling point?

Fast storage. That's what they insisted on at least, and how transformative it would be for gameplay.

It isn't really, but you know, they need a hook even though we just want more of the same but more powerful.

The chip that AMD is making for Xbox is customized, and the Xbox operating system already uses a Windows kernel and UWP. So is not a generic AMD SoC.

The only reason the Series can't run Steam games today is because of an artificial cap. They're not going to put a full version of Windows on a console when they can have a more limited version that can run Steam, Epic, etc.

It just wouldn't make sense, especially when they're producing it themselves and can customize Windows to their liking. It's not a third-party console like the Asus.

And it wouldn't make sense for it not to be backward compatible when one of Microsoft's strengths has always been backward compatibility.
There are 2 chips. We know from Kepler the GPU will be 100% RDNA5 AT2 Desktop GPU and that all RDNA5 GPUs will have some Xbox customizations, including AT2 Magnus.

We don't know yet about the CPU part, is it going to be a desktop CPU? maybe

The chiplet "chip", CPU + GPU will definitely be the part that is customized.

if its not amazing games, it can fuck off. I dont care about AI, controller vibrations or smells or any of that shit. Give me high quality games like we used to and Im in, but seeing as how the next-gen will be multiplatform for everyone, I guess I might stick to PC instead.

Sony will depend on their first party strategy, if they release their 1P output in PC then they will probably struggle since not only PC will benefit from this but also apparently the XBOX console will support PC stores such as Steam, EGS, Ubi, etc. so releasing their blockbusters on PC will hurt their sales when it comes to hardware, not software.

Nintendo is not interested in getting into this fight, they found their way with their family friendly 1P output and the hybrid device approach, they couldn't care any less, but imo Sony is already aware of the risks they will be facing.

Only because of space on the disc. I herwise the hardware wasn't all that. Hence why it died. Twice. (Panasonic version died on its ass quickly.)
Back in 1993, when it released, the hardware made 3D games in a way nothing else could at home. Back then a single year of advancement could make an unbelievable difference.

It was slower than the PS1, but it didn't wobble the textures.

We had other CD based consoles, the main ones were the Sega CD and TurboDuo (turbo Grafix+ CD).

True colors, true 3D, transparencies, first installment of the Need for Speed.

Anyway, the 3DO was extremely expensive, it just couldn't compete price wise, so nobody bought one.

ÂŁ500. That was the price of it in Blackpool. It actually looked ok but, yeah, nobody was buying a 3DO from trip (who was probably on drugs at the time).

A few features I'd wish for:

Bring back more community features, like it was on PS4, for example whenever you were looking up a game you could instantly watch people currently streaming said game on youtube or twitch. I'm missing that.

Then, as stated before, it'd be nice if we could watch more than one friend playing a game via sharescreen. And simultaneously play on another friends PS6.

Oh and it'd be really nice if the PS6 had a feature that'd show me the current fps.

Small changes, nothing too drastic, apart from obviously more horsepower.

And I hate the look of the PS5s UI. Everythings just too big, especially coming from FFXIV where I've set everything to be displayed as small as possible.

Also let me play my own music from youtube music whenever I'm doing stupid grinding work in games. Don't want to be forced to the games ingame music. Let me watch something on youtube via picture in picture while I'm leveling up in an RPG for example.

And a completely customizable UI would be great as well.

And controllers with hall-effect sensors would be great as well. Or at least make it easier to change them to TMR sticks, the soldering necessary for it on the Dualsense could be way easier and user friendly. And give us an option to completely turn off the lights on the controller to sace some battery, no one's looking at the controller while playing a game, I couldn't care less if it's red blue or green, I'd alwqys turn it off anyway in facor for some battery life. Speaking of it, raise the battery life, it should be twice as long as it currently is on the Dualsense.

Give us back a proper browser, accessing it with the workaround sucks. And include some kind of AI, preferably chat gpt, so I only have to ask something and it'll point me to the right answer or site I currently need if I'm stuck in a game.

Only on PS6 you can play your existing ps4+5 game library and use the trophies.
It will probably be cheaper than xbox too. I think the reason why ms will make the next xbox so expensive, is to trick sony into making the ps6 also expensive so lots of people won't buy a console at all next gen.

Maybe that AI upscaling tech they're working on. Can't think of anything else. It will be the only high-end console available, so it doesn't really need to differentiate itself from the competition.

The only way to play all the games (optimized specifically for the console) without dealing with all of the issues plaguing PC gaming.

but also apparently the XBOX console
This would be a much better point if 1. the next Xbox wasn't destined to be an over 1200 dollars machine and 2. Microsoft wasn't publishing all of its games on PlayStation already.
Yeah, you will be able to play some PlayStation games on the next Xbox, so what? You will be able to play ALL Xbox games on the much, MUCH less expensive PS6.

I'm going in with low to no expectations, and maybe Sony will find their way. Or maybe there will be some good 3rd party games to make it worth a purchase. Otherwise I'm sticking with PS5 Pro, NSW2, and PC.

Free MP tho.

It will not be unique. It is the same selling point the Switch 2 has. It is the next upgrade to the current line of consoles.

It's going to be much cheaper than the Xbox next, graphics will be more or the less the same to casuals and it's well not an Xbox.
