What would the story/tone of a Marvel Black Panther film be?

I'm not very familiar with the character, so I'm asking. What sort of BP stories would be best mined for content for the movie? What other characters (villains/allies) would we see? What tone would the film take?

When I say tone, I'm referring to this:

Captain America - War film
The Winter Soldier - Conspiracy thriller
Iron Man 3 - Buddy comedy
Ant-Man - Heist film
Guardians of the Galaxy - Space Opera

Etc.

Preferably Kasper Cole taking up the role of Black Panther after T'Challa's apparent death...I'd strongly recommend reading that arc, it's pretty awesome. They could set it in Manhattan that way, too. Ooh, and tie it in with the African-American Cap from The Truth in a possible Cap 3 storyline for a future The Crew movie.

70s blaxsploitation spoof, I.e. black dynamite.

Really I just want another black dynamite

Edit: or just do coming to America, and replace Zmunda with wakanda

Thing about Panther is he can do all of those. He flew his own spaceship into space to fight Galactus level threats. Everyone else has to borrow something from Reed Richards.

A heist, war, conspiracy thriller, with a space opera twist at the end.

That's be a waste of Black Panther, specially with Luke Cage getting his own series.

agreed. blaxploitation panther would just piss me off. The character is capable of SO much more, but pretty good odds those Hollywood writers would miss the point.

Cheesy jokes like in amazing spiderman and guardians of the galaxy, appeal to the Twilight fanbase, lots of sex, tie in references to twitter and bing and instagram, "funny" sidekick, black panther is whitewashed but the characters that had to be white will be a minority (especially if they are villains). No masks.

Basically a modern and up-to-date take on the comic.

Huh wat

A political thriller

AIM tries to gain control of Wakanda's vibranium resources with the help of T'Challa's adopted elder brother
White Wolf

That reminds me. I've been meaning to ask GAF- what are the GOAT Black Panther comics/stories/runs? What makes the character interesting outside of just being a perfect warrior, etc?

I've only read BP when hes part of an ensemble. I think the first story I recall was Geoff Johns run on the book during Red Zone. Iron Man and BP are touring a CDC facility thats working on a vaccine for the Red Mist thats killing people in North Dakota. BP takes a vial of their latest work. Tony snatches it away because he doesn't trust BP's scientists will share their findings.

As Tony flies off, BP is seen holding another vial. "So predictable." he says. BP is boss.

Isn't buddy comedy Thor 2? Iron Man 3 was the christmas movie.

Anyway, for Black Panther I wouldn't mind seeing him in a movie focused on Wakanda but I don't know how they would bring him into the Avengers without another Avenger appearing in the film and possibly stealing the spotlight.

Avoid hudlins run. Seek out priests run. After doing those two, read whatever.

Most of Gaf will tell you to check out Christopher Priest's run from the late 90's...as they should because that's the best run on the character. If you have Marvel's Digital Comics Unlimited service, you can read the whole thing on there (there's maybe one issue missing).

Harder to find but also worth reading is Don Mcgregor's "Panther's Rage."

First BP movie should be him prepping to take on Klaw, except the part where he embarrasses the Fantastic Four and almost steals Sue.

Rich African country made rich from oil deposit but secretly helped by the stash of vibranium only know to the royal family. Secret gets out, HYDRA comes for it. king dies, son who is off to university and doesn't want anything to do with tradition of being the black panther comes back to avenge his father

and so on and so on

International political thriller. There should be a huge build up before Wakanda is actually shown. Klaw and killmonger should be the enemies, with white wolf as an enemy/sacrificing neutral (though this may be too close to Loki).

Undercover Brother 2

More seriously, this sounds cool.

A scene where the pentagon shits themselves when Wakanda reveals it's defense capability.

nothing about Black Panther's lore screams political thriller to me.
Monarch living in the shadow of his father, who has many internal enemies and rivals to the throne, and who is just now revealing a modern and technologically advanced African nation to the rest of the world? Politics has to be a part of it for this movie to not just be "black batman." Wakandan/American politics shined in Priest's run.

I have such high hopes for this film... I'd love for him to be out of suit for most of the film, with only a little bit towards the end showing how crazy powerful Wakanda is. A thriller style movie would be awesome.
