Uff, that is a tough one. When it comes to "damage done" then it is easily Star Wars, but when it comes to the movies themselves it is a different story. I only watched about 30 minutes of the Hobbit before I gave up, it is completely uninteresting and flat as a pancake, there is nothing to hook you. Star Wars (at least Force Awakens, which is the only one I saw) looks great and has that hook in Kylo Ren showing up at the beginning and many different characters being set up (Kylo, Finn, Poe, Rey, BB8) so you kind of want to know where it all goes.

Seeing Hobbit 2 in the theater in high frame rate was actually pretty fun.

Smaug is also legitimately great as a character. It's not even close.

I have a feeling that your perception of the Star Wars movies would change drastically if you saw parts 8 and 9. 7, while not being anything necessarily good, was at least a proper setup movie for a trilogy. The other two movies took turns shitting down your throat.

Yeah I can imagine. I have seen them though, through clips and deep analysis videos.

>when you watch the third Hobbit extended and it turns into a Warhammer movie out of nowhere

The battle was entirely redone for the home release.

Unbelievably stupid. But fun in a "Jackson's already trashed the story, so let's just watch it burn" kind of way.

This one's easy to me. The modern star wars trilogy. The hobbit at least had a story to tell and some character development between Bilbo and Thorin and a few other characters. The Modern star wars was just these things happened all disconnected from each other, no one grows, their's no story arch. I heard it described as Spinning wheels the movie.

The hobbit trilogy was corny but entertaining.

The new SW is shit. Boring, unimaginative remake of the original movies.

At least The Hobbit doesn't destroy its franchise legacy and tells a complete, planned story. It may have failed in execution, but that's another story.

On the other hand, Disney Trilogy DESTROYED everything that had any worth in Star Wars

The hobbit as a trilogy fails. But there is enogh good stuff there that you could probably edit it into a pretty great 3 or 4 hour movie.

Star wars sequel trilogy is just a mess. Good characters, but terrible world building and plot.

The Hobbit can be remade whenever , however in a different interpretation.

The prequels and sequels to SW are directly tied to a perfect trilogy of magical films that you wouldnt want to remake. The 6 movies since have completely ruined the legacy of both the story and characters tied to that loved trilogy. You cant really remake that or fix that, unless they decided to reboot those 6 movies and that wont happen.

so sw which actually damaged a legacy....as far as im concerned nothing ever came out after RotJ

I'm a huge fan of the LoTR books and I like the original film trilogy too, but nowhere near as much as the books. The first Hobbit film was pretty bad and the sequels are terrible. My dad absolutely loves all of the Hobbit movies though. Loves. Them. Much, much better than the LoTR trilogy, in his mind. He watches The Hobbit trilogy over and over. When I went camping with him last summer he would recite lines in character at the campfire. Feels bad man.

Edit:

Also, my last name is Durrin, very similar to the legendary dwarf "Durin," mentioned in the films. Of course, as a huge fan, my dad delights in that little detail.

Do not understand the hate for Star Wars. Or maybe I do but just don't share it. Did not like the way Luke was portrayed, I'll give em that.

Fuck that was so hype. Always think of Warhammer when the dwarves show up. Love it.

Also enjoyed the world building with Gandalf’s side adventures.

The extended trilogy is underrated imo

Just watched the Maple Films edit of The Hobbit. Honestly it was pretty great. Definitely elevates the movie. Trims the movie down to a 4 hour 23 minute runtime, which is still long as fuck. But there is an intermission at the 2 hour mark.

I think a lot of people that are down on the hobbit should check it out. It stands with the LotR movies

Hobbit movies were not terrible, but we all know they would greatly benefit from being two movies instead of three.
