What's the absolute worst game you paid money for in the 7th generation?

This game...just horrific.

I loved the first Adventure Time game on 3DS and I thought this would be at least a little fun.

I thought wrong, it had horrible combat, boring level design, and terrible graphics. A far cry from the original Zelda inspired original.

Hopefully the new one will be a better because I don't know how it could be worse than this piece of shit.

MGS4_European_Cover.jpg

This was actually my first time playing a Metal Gear Solid game. Holy crap, what a piece of shit. It was actually my first PS3 game after making the 360 --> PS3 switch. I heard about all of these vaunted PS3 exclusives, and MGS4 was my first taste. Bad, bad decision.

Ground Zeroes gameplay and level design looks much better, so I may try the series again when Phantom Pain releases.

This is the only game I've called "pretentious indie bullshit", gladly so.
No but seriously fuck this game.

I bought plenty of shit games, but the worst one I paid full price for was Alone in the Dark.

Terrible, terrible game. The only good thing about it was the soundtrack.

Can't decide. Star Ocean 4, FF13 or Duke Nukem Forever. Paid full price for them... At least enjoyed a little SO4 gameplay so scratch it out.

A terrible terrible game. One of the worst purchases I ever made.

-The camera sucks. Worst third person camera ever devised. It's jerky and awkward all the time.

-The graphics look bad. Characters have terrible appearances, really awful hair. Terrain also looks poor.

-The performance is shit. For a game that looks that bad, it's a huge resource hog. Very unoptimized.

-There's a ton of loot lag. You'll see a bag on the ground but it'll take about 4 or 5 seconds sometimes to get the option to loot it.

-The weapons are mostly boring stuff named "longsword +1" or "bow +2."

Runner-up would have to be:

The only good thing I can say about it is that Lara looks physically attractive.

A toss-up between Final Fantasy XIII and Dragon Quest IX. The former is a turd with some half baked redeeming features hidden the middle. The latter is probably a good game, I just despised it.

I paid $1 for it. It was still too much.

Honorable mention goes to...

A game that completely and utterly stripped of everything enjoyable about its predecessors and left with only the worst parts of the series. On top of that, it made an utter balls up of the story, which is incredible since it was already insane. An utter abortion of a game, and I felt legitimately angry when I finished it.

In other words 360, PS3, and Wii. Let's also include the DS and PSP, as well as PC games from 2005-2013.

What was the biggest stinker that you willingly exchanged money for?

For me, I think it has to be this:

It was at the launch of the Wii, there wasn't much to choose from, and this is back when everyone was still under the impression that Wii games would look as good as or better than on Xbox. Well, that bubble was burst as soon as I turned this pile of shit on for the first time. Legitimately looked like an early PS2 game and had some of the worst motion controls for the system. This is the modern equivalent of those bootleg Taiwanese Mario games for the Mega Drive or whatever. I paid $50 for this game.

Runners up would include Command & Conquer 4 and Duke Nukem Forever. I paid full price for those too.

I don't remember the Wii graphics being that shitty. It has been a while though.

Alone in the Dark. The controls are broken, after the first car sequence I uninstall it and never play it again . Bought for $3 on XBL.
Others are Bloodstone and Warfighter but at least are playable.

Well, if we're counting the DS, my choice is unquestionably Animal Crossing.

The last time I would ever let good word of mouth solely determine what I buy without looking it up on my part. There is absolutely nothing in AC that would entice me to carry on playing and I am positively angry that I paid £30 for it only to conveniently have lost the receipt on the way home. Trading it in could do little to wash away that feeling of shame as I only got less than a tenner for it in return.

Sounds like you didn't "get" Animal Crossing. I pity you! There's something tragic about a relaxing game with no lose states and no win states that seems to absolutely irk some gamers.

Metroid_Other_M_Cover.jpg

I bought it for $89 new release. Disgusting. The baby.

Skyrim. I don't even know why I bother trying new TES games. They are all bloody awful and just unfun to play. Directionless, terrible story, insanely high input latency, etc.

+1 For Final fantasy XIII.

Bought it day one at full price, suffered my playtrough until the end (but i have to say i quite enjoyed the last boss fight and the ending video).

Sold it straight up after finishing it and never regretted that.

Man, some of you live very enchanted gaming lives if Dark Souls, Bioshock Infinite, or God of War 3 are the worst games you've played in the last ten years.

Personally, I'm going to cast another vote for Dragon Age 2, a classic case of cut corners being marketed as features. I thought DAO was Bioware's strongest effort since Baldur's Gate 2, so going from that to this was probably my single biggest disappointment of last generation.

Bleach : Shattered Blade on the Wii.
bleach-shattered-blade-20071023040228768.jpg

Masturbate for 1 minute as fast as possible then do your power attack with a 20 second cutscene, then watch your opponent cutscene, then your cutscene, then his.

Fun fact : I actually 100% the game just to get the last character, who was a game exclusive Arrancar called Sōkyoku which I never used since I could not stand the game for one more minute.

Really, my worst experience of last gen.

I really don't get how you invested so much time, for example, beating the whole game with fucking Hanataro Yamada (to unlock the chain of new characters) and didn't decided to stop, if this is supossedly the worst game you paid money for... I mean, i liked the game and the show but even i couldn't do it (and i didn't, for health/sanity reasons).

It was a weird but funny fighting game (but i like bleach so i'm biased).

Didn't buy many games I didn't like... so I'd say the worst would be:

256px-Puppeteer_cover.png

I think it's probably the only game I paid for (although I got it on sale) that I didn't even care to finish.

Visually it's great I just found it to be a truly mediocre platformer. And everything is presented in such a tedious way. A platformer needs to be fast and challenging... this was easy and incredibly slow and tedious. Not to mention the whole head swapping which they advertised so much is nothing more than a gimmick.

I know it released for $40 so it's not a full priced game nor a PSN game.
But there are MUCH better full priced games (Rayman Origins, Rayman Legends, Most Mario games, Donkey Kong, even Little big planet) and MUCH better PSN games (Outland, Guacamelee, super meat boy, etc)

Search thread for '2006', get only 2 results. Really now.*

I'm really tolerant of bad games. I can overlook bad writing, grindy gameplay, cringeworthy voice acting, etc.

So I picked Sonic 2006 up in 2011 for 5 bucks just to laugh at how bad it was and actually play it to the end.

I didn't even make it past the meeting with Knuckles before turning off my PS3 in disgust because of the loading times. I have better things to do (including grindy gameplay) than to sit staring at the screen like a shit chucking ape for honest-to-God 45-second loading screens for 10 seconds of 'mission briefing' dialogue.

(The only other thing that will make me not complete a game is bad music, which Sonic 2006 didn't have D: )

*edit: okay, to be fair searching the thread for 06 gets a lot more hits!

SOCOM: Confrontation

I pretty much bought it for the bluetooth headset that came bundled with it but now it's unplayable because it's online only. I can't trade it and I can't sell it. Fucking worthless. I will never buy online only again.

it's a tie between Two Worlds 2 and Dragon Age 2.
Two absolute boffs in form of videogames, although DA2 is slightly less shitty than the disgraceful pile of dong that is TW2

"Dark" something. Maybe "Dead" something. Some dude with a blade disc forever attached to his hand except when you throw it whenever you want with the Sixaxis. Paid £45 for that shit.

I bought Sonic 06, at the full price of $60, twice.

The first copy got fucked up right after I beat the second level...so I bought a second copy...

Money thrown directly into a hole.

I bought plenty of shit games, but the worst one I paid full price for was Alone in the Dark.

Terrible, terrible game. The only good thing about it was the soundtrack.
Pretty sure that was Olivier Deriviere. What a god. I think Jim Sterling played that game recently on YouTube lol

I don't get why you'd want to buy it again, full-price nonetheless, after just making the first stage. God oh god, this game was so shit.

Ghost Recon: Future Soldier. Got it at launch too. What a piece of boring shit that game was.

So much potential for that one. I loved the concept, but it didn't execute very well. They should have allowed for drop-in/out multiplayer instead of needing to add all your friends to your party/squad to be able to play.

Gotta go get yourself a copy of Twin Snakes. One of the best.

Mass Effect 2

Yes, I have high standards and normally don't buy or play shitty games. I loved the first one, this felt like a bro shooter (nothing against a good bro shooter, but I was expecting something else) and planet scanning is THE worst gameplay mechanic I've ever seen. Pacing + story is shit too. To this day I don't even know what they have done to the series with the third game and don't even care.

I paid cash - actual cash - for some Indie XBox Live game called Demon House. It looked terrible, had awful music, was linear as hell, glitchy as hell and could be finished in less than an hour. Hands down the worst game that generation.

...if we're not including indie titles for whatever reason, then I'd nominate Heroes of Mana, which was so bad it somewhat made me glad Square-Enix stopped pursuing Mana games anymore. Well, until they announced the F2P game, at least.

Haze, and Anything Halo.

I swear, I tried, tried, tried, tried to like this widely accepted game. Just couldn't. Most agreeable for me, relatively speaking, was Reach and ODST at a very distant second.

Never liked the original quadrilogy.

Sonic 4.

Sonic 06 may have completely fucked physics, but at least it has physics.

Duke Nukem Forever comes close though.
