What's the Latest with Mistwalker?

So I have been playing around with The Last Story again, and I can't believe how poorly this game did. It's short and rather simple, but I'll be damned if it wasn't a fun game through and through.

I looked them up to see what they've been up to, but I can't find any solid information outside of them releasing a few iOS games and a rumour about an Xbox One game.

Do we have any information on a new project? I'd totally be behind a next-gen sequel to The Last Story or a new action-RPG IP from them.

Hell, if that Xbox One rumour is true it would be my push to pick up the console.

It did decently I North America. XSeed has said they were very happy with how well the game did even if a good amount of it was moved at below full price.

I don't know, but we had an email back and forth last year about getting a PAX Booth together.

Evidence on twitter.

Not heard from them in a very long time :(

Best rpg of the last generation...so many emotional feels through reading the stories

Was on about lost odyssey mind but love mistwalker

Praying for a next gen Lost Odyssey sequel personally, I really hope they're cooking up something awesome, they had a pretty great output last gen.

Oh, that is good to hear. It deserves the sales.

I was reading their twitter but they have been silent for over a year now.

There was a thread about this a few days ago. Their website is back up and there was a pic of Gooch on facebook with some Mistwalker people's eating lunch. So...take that as you will.

I remember hearing of rumours of them making an Xbox One exclusive at the start of the year.

Guessing those weren't true?

:(

That rumor was shot down: https://twitter.com/XboxP3/status/437355442172203008

Yeah, they have sort of disappeared. I hoped we would see them during E3 :(

The last thing I hear about them was when some new concept art surfaced on their site, but that was like early last year.

After seeing how Nintendo is picking up stuff like Devils Third, I feel quite certain that they still have Mistwalker as well contracted to do rpgs. In Japan they made a real big deal out of The Last Story with its own streaming with Iwata and Sakagauchi even before the Nintendo Directs were a thing, and while the game did pretty bad, it really felt that they truly tried to position the game as Nintendos own "Final Fantasy". Would be really strange to do all this effort if there was no plans of a sequel. They are a small team, so things take time, but I would guess they are working on Last Story 2 for the Wii U.

Hopefully, this is true. Last Story was incredible.

Maybe not the most popular opinion, but I'd love to see Nintendo just scoop em up as a first or second party developer. They'd fit right in with Monolith Soft. Nintendo could use the hype. [/fanboy]

Sakaguchi posted a picture for a meeting (didn't say what the meeting was for) over dinner with some people on Facebook recently. Other than that... no one knows. :(

They existed when people gave them money to make games. Once people stopped paying for their company, they pretty much disappeared.

Shame, would've loved a Blue Dragon 2 or maybe even a LO2.

Reviving Cry On for the Wii U which is now being funded by Nintendo

Just a Rumor, we don't really know what they're doing

that might be good enough for Xseed, but Nintendo and Microsoft might have higher expectation if they are going to fund a new game
nintendo let xseed co-publish because they didnt think it would sell in NA, if it became xseed's most sold product then theres no other way to look at it then a success.

The Last Story was awesome fun with a so-so story and a great cast of supporting characters. Nintendo even released a Wii bundle for it in Japan. I enjoyed it enough to buy it twice. I think sales for it were on par with Xenoblade, weren't they? With that said, the level of critical acclaim between the two games are on different levels.

Mistwalker is a mediocre developer, anyway.

I didn't think they were actually a developer? I thought Mistwalker came up with concepts and then outsourced the actual development.

Edit: Yup, looks like the only games they've made entirely themselves are ios/android ones.

They'll be coming out with an Xbox One or Wii U exclusive announcement soon.

That's irrelevant, because the ideas of the games, come from Hironobu Sakaguchi, and the music, comes from Nobuo Uematsu. The programming of the game can be contract work, but it's their creations come to life.

I loved last story and I think I spent more time on it between the main story, online, and new game+ than I did on xenoblade (which I still haven't finished though, to be fair). I would love to see a sequel. So bummed that I was in the middle of moving and couldn't really participate in the last round of online some GAF members hosted before the servers were taken down.

You are talking about Nintendo of America letting Xseed publish it in the US. It is up to Nintendo of Japan to fund the game in the first place.

I heard from someone semi-recently that the offices they used to own (I guess it's nice to have offices even if everyone's separated) have been empty for a long time.

I had the chance to talk with Sakaguchi on Facebook one time. He was grateful for all of the Operation Rainfall attention that his game was getting. He was very nice.

I hope he works on another epic like The Last Story. I just really love his old work especially.

I thought The Last Story was great. The gameplay wasn't super nuanced or challenging at all, but it was fun. Everything else about it was even better. I feel like Nintendo is the only publisher that would fund another Mistwalker game. I sure hope that happens. The Takahashi vs. Sakaguchi Iwata Asks was so good.

Well in japan it was also considered a success(I believe it sold more than xenoblade, dont quote me on that though)

Can you link me to that IA?
