When can we reasonably expect a PS4 price drop?

There have been so many deals lately where I live (Switzerland), it's like an unofficial pricecut.

Right now you can get the 500GB version with TLOU and The Order for $300, or the Batman Edition for $320.

The earliest I would expect is E3 2016. They're doing better than their competition at a higher price so there's no pressure on them to lower it. What they can do before that is update the standard model to 1tb and keep the same price (which I believe they announced already).

No die shrink on their most expensive BoM component yet, unlikely.

Yeah true, we're not going to see PS4's APU on 16nm FinFET or FinFET+ until much later into 2016, I would imagine, and I would also think it will skip 20nm since AMD skipped 20nm altogether, as did Nvidia with the exception of Tegra X1.

That are probably deals directly from the store. Here in Germany we have these deals too from time to time. But mostly they stay not very long. An official price drop is still another behemot

Yeah they aren't official. I think some of those deals are to get rid of the old model now that the 1200 series is out.

Still waiting for a 1tb model in the US. Hopefully it stays the same price or lower, we don't need any of that $449 nonsense.

It all depends on stocks. They're not going to lower the price unless they have enough consoles to cover the increased demand. Although Black Friday and the last weeks of the year will see sales anyway.

I think they already have dropped, but it has been a while since we got worldwide numbers.

I feel like the PS4 got its first $100 price drop at launch. 8GB GDDR5 + hard drive, blu ray + CPU/GPU and the rest = high BOM costs. $100 price drop is going to drop them into the red, I suspect.

In the open market, costs for RAM and minimum price for 500GB HDDs have barely moved since the console launch.

Other costs like making the chipset and paying off R&D are porbably less (maybe), but the dynamics of the computer components market have changed quite a bit since decades past - Moore's law is slowing down and things don't always get cheaper quite as quickly as they used to.

They just announced the star was console for the holiday, but did not include any price details or pre order info. Makes me think we will see some sort of price drop and this will be the specially priced "holiday bundle".

I use a highly accurate method to determine when the price will drop.

It'll happen just after I buy one, just like it always does.

If there is no announcement at the Paris games week, I doubt they would say anything about it till e3 2016. PSX would be too close to Christmas and people would have already bought one for their kids by then.

This is exactly how I feel. I have the Taken King bundle pre-ordered, but feeling like it's a mistake as I have some interest in Destiny, but not a lot.

Wow are you my twin? We're connected telepathically, it seems.

Heh maybe :)

I suspect like me you decided to wait until more games you where interested came out before picking one up. It normally takes a couple of years after the start of a generation before the rpgs really start rolling in so getting it day 1 when it had nothing to play seemed like a giant waste.

Of course being patient about this stuff usually means the price goes down, but we really got screwed by the price going up instead! It's pretty stupid that even for this bundle I like I'd have to pay more for it then I would have if I had bought it at launch.

The sad thing is even if we get a price drop due to how low our dollar is right now it'll likely just go back to launch price. But I'd rather pay $452 tax over $508.45 after tax if I could get away with it.

That said if Star wars battlefront is going to be the holiday bundle that won't work for me either even if they drop the price. If anything even the standard edition of that is going to be more expensive then normal going off the pricing of the Batman bundles.
