The kid on the right is every bit a part of the Giants as Aubrey Huff was. Even if Huff is off the team now, he is part of the Giants family. Sports is history, sports is lore. And you can get in on it.

I've always hated this.

since we're on a sports related topic, I hate it when people call games "rematches".
it annoys me to no end. For instance, this weekends game against the Packers and Seahawks is being called a "Rematch". WHY? its just a regular season game with almost nothing on the line in comparison to last season, the stakes aren't quite as high. by that logic every year the Bears play the Patriots its a "rematch" from the SBXX. If the Packers and Seahwawks meet again in the NFC Championship, then its a rematch.

Because they are matching up again. Hence, a re-match. Everything is a rematch. So why would it upset you when someone calls it a rematch? The Chiefs vs Packers will always be a rematch of Superbowl 1.

You're falling right into their marketing nonsense. You're no more a part of the Giants than I'm a part of Apple just because I own an iPhone and I really like it.

A team with an ever changing roster of millionaires from all over the world except your city, owned by a billionaire who sets prices to tickets and food so high that most families can't afford to go.

I want to be a part of that family. Together we're great! Right Jerry Jones? Right? Jerry? Are you there? Hello?

You get the sense that some posters think of GAF, a forum with the primary focus on videogaming, as some sort of nerdzone where these sorts of opinions are accepted and commonly held, rather than ridiculed for the "too smart for you dummies" air of condescension from someone not in position to talk down to others like they are in real life. "They just don't get it but fellow likeminded video game players do."

Your edgy, "lol sheeple"-esque nonsense is seen as rightfully silly here, too. Maybe a nerdier board is in order.

I heard 4chan and Reddit have openings for true nerds.

God forbid people who play videogames actually like sports.

This thread is filled with people who are proud to not understand basic human and societal interaction. It's weird. If this thread was anthropomorphized I wonder where it would fall on the autism spectrum.

Have you ever referred to yourself as a GAFer? Do you consider yourself part of the GAF Community? Do you think Evilore knows or gives a shit about you?

Sometimes when people have trouble understanding things they have this kind of defensive reaction, trying to patronise to hide their lack of understanding or feeling.

It's ok to enjoy sports. It's weird to identify yourself with a corporate entity with whom you have no actual affiliation.

That's the big reason I make an exemption for alma maters.

That speaks for the majority of entertainment. Sports falls under that entertainment umbrella. Videogames and movies and music also fall under that umbrella.

And you are failing(miserably) to understand basic human dynamics. So who wins?

I don't know how many times we have to explain that the teams personnel or ownership usually don't matter. Also why did you think that IPhone analogy fits? Does Apple have an affiliation with your city/state? Do they raise landmarks their?

We? You sports fans have gone to far.

"I'm a Jurassic Worlder!"

"I'm a GAFer!"

its funny just last weekend i was telling my co worker how i hate when sports fans say shit like that, there is no we, they're the ones doing all the work while you just watch.

Good thing most sports teams aren't corporate entities. As in prohibited by law to be. At least in the US.

So for everyone that says the whole "we" think is OK, what about people who say w
"we" when talking about Apple? If that person has been a fan of their products since the 80s and talk during An apple press conference in the "we" as if they are part of the company, is that weird. What if they own shares in Apple? Crazy? Both sports team and apple goals are ultimately to make money.

How can you get annoyed by that? Wow.

I'm not feeling like a better human when saying "we", get that shit argument out of here, it's insulting.

I say "we" cause it's convenient. And it's just usual to talk about "my" club, which is the one I support, not the one I own or am under contract at...

I certainly wouldn't make a thread decrying it if you chose to.

If they're at press conference and saying "we" that means "I and the Apple corporation."

Your situation barely makes sense.

Sports (and being a fan) are bigger than just you and a particular team. It is an entire history, lore, and culture that you attach yourself to. It is modern day tribal affiliation. It is very much "we" for some people.

Are you really going to pretend like Trekkies, Whovians, Star Wars fans, Harry Potter fans, etc. don't exist and don't share pride in their shared consumption?

Eh?
The teams themselves are franchises in a sports league. There's no incorporation though many are owned by corporations.

lmao. Those comparisons.

Do you support Apple if they would release shitty products? No, you'd buy a different smartphone. Do you still support your sports club when things are looking bad? Yes, because it's "your" club. If you don't you're not a fan anyway and wouldn't say "we".

Clubs are not the same as companies, no matter the money involved and their business structures. There are differences.

Have you ever referred to yourself as a GAFer? Do you consider yourself part of the GAF Community? Do you think Evilore knows or gives a shit about you?

Gaf is great, but no, I have never referred to myself as a Gafer.

As a matter of fact, yes they do. I live closer to Apple headquarters than I do to my favorite teams.

Teams spend a lot of time trying to get the players into the game. Football even calls its crowd The 12th Man. I don't really see a problem with it.

The Red Wings represent Metro-Detroit. I live in Metro-Detroit. The Red Wings represent me, my friends, and my family. I hope 'we' win the cup this year.

The uber defensive reactions of the "we"ers just serves my point earlier that these folks probably don't have a lot going on, and having this sense of involvement and society threatened scares them.

The vitriol is amazing to watch!

What exactly do they represent about you? The way you can hit a puck, or skate? The kind of playoff beard you can grow? Genuinely curious.

I don't care if someone says "we won" if they also say "we lost." Most of the people I know who use "we" in that manner do actually say that, though. Hardcore fans take the bad with the good, in my experience.

I think you have it backwards, but I can't say for sure since I'm way down here, and you're way up there.

There's a chance (minimum as it could be) neogaf talks influence something about the videogame in question. There's a 0% chance your 3 hours mathematical analysis of the wind and score opportunities of the last game is going to affect the next game.

We are truly changing the landscape of video games.

Basic explanations of what should be common sense is apparently considered uber defensive now.

I wonder if that's how the anti-vax crowd think when people try to explain how vaccines work in response to them,

Who hurt you?

Sports apparently.

What vitriol? People like you are failing to understand why people have an emotional connection to their favorite sports teams .

Oh ok cool. Where are you located? And why doesnt Apple promote its affiliation with your city more? First im hearing of this honestly.

Your'e the one with a problem if anything.
