Why is this even an issue? Let people get excited about their favorite team. It is doing you ZERO harm.
I don't see how that's different from normal though. You might go to college, but you don't play on the team. You being there at college has little to no impact on the team performance.Yep I hate it, the exception I make is if you are talking about a college team and you are currently attending that college.
I own part of Real Oviedo, is it cool with you if I use 'we' or is that beyond the pale?
There is no more connection in going to a college then there is living in a city.Because you at least have some minor connection to the team. Even then it's a stretch. I just think it's stupid as hell.

we got a badass over here
It's not that big of a deal. I suggest you get over it and get on with your life.
I'd always ask "oh, what position do you play?" when the guys at work did this.
It's more convenient to say "We" than "My favored team, the Metropolis City Fighting Caterpillars". That's all there is to it.
Heh. You sound like someone that says 'we'.
What about the Seahawks calling fans the 12th man, and similar situations with other teams.

Isn't that being a bit hypocrite to call people out on it but saying being college is okay?

Is it fun eating lunch alone every day?
When the "U-S-A" chants or "we beat them!" phrases would start during a particular event, that was my cue to leave the room.
Ugh, still makes me rage. Lol.

People who complain about this come off to me as socially awkward.

I feel sorry for all of you who have nothing to believe in.
We're going to beat Fiji on Friday and 50 million English people get to celebrate the fact that we won a Rugby game.
To be fair, real fans do contribute to the team, the money invested to watch your team play will pay a significant chunk of the players wages so I think the real fans are more than entitled to include themselves as "we"
I mean we are on a video game forum...
