Well?

What a comeback from Nintendo. From the Wii U to the what will end up the best selling console of all time. Pretty much all on the back of their first party.

3rd parties barely showed up at all the first few years? No problem.

Sheesh. Absolutely INSANE run from their first party. Nobody else could pull this off.

It is certainly old and weak now, but I would put it in my top 5 consoles of all time comfortably. But it hasn't gotten much use the past few years. I wound up buying 4. A launch unit which I modded. An OLED. A Lite. Another OLED for my wife to never use.

- Xenoblade 2
- Xenoblade 3
- MK8D
- BOTW
- TOTK
- Mario Odyssey
- Fire Emblem Three Houses
- SMTV
- Pikmin 4
- Bowsers Fury

I could go on and on but the lineup is bonkers and offers so much variety. S Tier console IMO.

Easy S Tier. It honestly might be Nintendo's best platform.

S tier

Simply one of the greatest of all time

Mario Odyssey and Breath of the Wild are masterpieces.

The hybrid form factor is the most innovative piece of hardware since the NES and GameBoy.

When it's discontinued in a few years it'll be pretty mech neck and neck with PS2 and deservedly so, more than.

B tier. Probably my most played nintendo console in the last 20 years, but that doesn't mean I played on it very much.

SNES is still my king and it will always be.

Solidly C-tier for me. I did not like Nintendo's direction towards open-world, aimless games. I did not like the absolute shit hardware performance that has persisted from day 1. I didn't like the bloat of games like Fire Emblem: Three Houses, or the complete lack of challenge in games like Super Mario Bros Wonder. I didn't like that 3rd party games never stayed exclusive, leaving you with a way worse version of the game than on other platforms if you were foolish enough to buy it early.

But there were bright spots. I loved the Xenoblade remake, I enjoyed the remastered Wii U games... really, the old stuff that got remade or retooled was gold. But that ain't enough to make a good system. I really hope that Nintendo finds its way creatively with the Switch 2, and that the hardware is finally up to snuff again (or at least good enough to support the kinds of games that Nintendo tends to focus on).

Solid A games it had lot great games like Xenoblade, Astral Chain and many more that made enjoy Switch.

3 almost perfect scored games (BOTW and SMO at 97 on Metacritic and TOTK at 96), return to form for Metroid, 3rd parties that left 30 years ago are back, fantastic console and fantastic sales. S Tier for me

A Tier for me. Breath of the Wild got me back into gaming.

But there are so many good fucking games on it: Xenoblade Chronicles 2 got me into Xenoblade (after 4chan explained to me how I should think about its combat), Super Mario Wonder is the best 2D platformer Nintendo have done since Super Mario World. Tears of the Kingdom was dope and one of the really rare occasions where a game managed to impress me on a technical level (does not happen often). First-party stuff in general was really strong, imho. And it has some nice third-party stuff as well; Unicorn Overlord, for example, was my personal GOTY 2024. And Arms was dope. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is easily the perfection of the formula (I honestly don't know what they could do with Mario Kart 9).

The only letdown really was Super Mario Odyssey. I dunno, it just didn't click for me. Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 is where it's at for me, which are the best 3D platformers ever made (so far).
I also found the Fire Emblem games for Switch mid, unfortunately. They went too far with the social life/dating sim stuff with Three Houses, and too far into Anime with Engage.

S tier but they set the bar extremely low with the Wii U. They kept it well fed and are even hinting that companies will continue releasing games until 2026. Not sure if their best hardware ever, brain says yes but heart says SNES.

Easiest S-tier I've ever given outside of Ps2.

I'm not sure I've ever owned this many games for any Nintendo platform, and the Switch installments of most franchises are, to me, the best in their respective franchises.

Usually Nintendo's systems are basically dead by this point, but here we are in year 8 with first party titles being announced into 2026. I remember thinking TotK would be the last game I'd purchase for it, but I've bought loads more since then. Focusing on one platform instead of two seem to have helped immensely for them in terms of output.

The only real downer is that the hardware is so dated. I would've wanted to see a Pro version instead of the OLED.

I dunno man. Some of it's games are very cool, but the hardware leaves a lot to be desired both in technology and ergonomics.

It's Zelda games are also my least favorite ones, plus no F-Zero nor Starfox... I dunno, it's cool, but I still prefer the SNES, N64 and Wii (with GC backcompat)

Edit: voted B.

A tier, for me personally it could have done with a mid-gen refresh to address it's low resolutions and poor loading times. A pro model with SSD storage.

In terms of 1st party library it's pretty phenomenal if we ignore game freak and the full price (or even higher priced than original) WiiU ports.

I have one, didn't really like it.
The Switch's best-selling game being a Wii U port is one for the ages.

Id probably have it behind snes and nes but in front of 3ds. S tier for me even though I feel off it the last 2 years.

NSO is booty though. Nintendo is so weird with online. Even this virtual card to share games is so convoluted

I still prefer the Wii U because it doesn't have asymmetrical controls and has Twilight Princess HD. Still a B tier.

If I could vote I'd place it in A-Tier. Amazing system w/great experiences.

Cheap sticks, bad ergonomics and mediocre battery-life is all that held it back IMO.

It's a great device and the switch pro controller is among the best gamepads. Is it perfect? Not by any means; it is not good for multiplatform only gaming if you have a choice, those are almost always better elsewhere with some notable exceptions, but the sheer amount of content and 1st party stuff will always provide a plethora of options. Solid B+ tier. Great handheld, ok console.

Easy S Tier. It honestly might be Nintendo's best platform.
I have a hard time putting it higher than the SNES personally, but it's damn close up there. Easily in my top 3 of all consoles, not just Nintendo.

Edit - Easy S-tier IMO

S tier.

Top 5 console of all time for me, up there with SNES, PS2 and PS1.

Considering both quantity and quality, I don't think Nintendo has ever had a better gen in terms of software output. 64 and GC both had slightly higher highs for me, but Switch was so much more consistent.

S tier.

I've had a pretty rocky relationship with Nintendo. Loved NES and SNES. Skipped N64 (except playing SM64, Ocarina of Time and Star Fox 64). Loved GameCube. Skipped the whole Wii-era due to having motion controls and being too casual.

Switch however changed everything. A fantastic console. Made me fall in love with a handheld gaming. Love the hybrid setup. Its so flexible to play on your tv and then pick it up and game on the go. I travel quite a lot so Switch has been a god send. In fact, the hybrid nature of Switch made me get a ROG Ally X and doing a hybrid setup for PC as well. I don't mind the performance hit either.

The library of games have been awesome as well. Nintendo has been firing on all cylinders and third party has been the best there ever been on a Nintendo console. Switch is the ultimate retro and jrpg console, as well as a fantastic home for PS360 ports.

Switch is definitely in my top 3 consoles of all time. Maybe even my favorite of all time. Switch 2 can't come soon enough.

B tier. S tier was the New 3 DS, because I love true, dedicated handhelds, and with it's truly pocketable clamshell design and the 3D screen, it was just a dream of a gaming device. It was in the pocket of my jeans 90% of the time when I left home.

C. Too many 30fps bad IQ shit shows, but +1 point for the 60fps games +1 point for "ease" emulation that saves the shit shows.

One of the best and most unexpected aspects of the Switch for me was how good it was as a portable console. No, not a handheld… I travel a lot and visit a lot of friends and family, and once I bought a little mobile dock/hdmi adapter thing, I realized how incredible it is to be able to easily transport a full-ass console wherever I go.

I've had so many impromptu Mario Kart and Jackbox sessions, and it's been great being able to pick up where I left off on any games, but keep them on a big screen.

I've used the Switch probably 10x as a portable console than I have in actual handheld mode.

And for anyone wondering, this is the adapter I bring with me everywhere. I works with my MacBook Pro charger, so the whole setup is just insanely portable for me.

I lost half the functions advertised and had to pay extra for the controller. Bad design. Didn't have this issue with PSP/vita or DS.

Switch is a handheld where instead of those lame grips you can attach any type of controller you desire with your preferred buttons and sticks as well. When they malfunction you can attach new ones without implicating the whole console. I see this as an upgrade.

I got this from China for thirty bucks and it's great, but barring that I'd probably get a hori Compact on ebay for $25.

If you never owned a Wii U, it might be their best. The Wii U re releases taint it a bit for me but considering very few people owned one getting a 2nd chance to play all those great games is welcome but still they are re releases still. :pie_thinking:

They made the WiiU, failed miserably, went "What if the problem with WiiU is not the tablet, but the TV?". Massive Success. S tier.

The library of games is great. But, only A tier because of graphics that are very dated, even 7 years ago when it released and laughably bad online features.

Probably B tier.
Loved my first year with it: Breath of the Wild, Mario Odyssey and Xenoblade 2 where all great and painted an exciting future for the system..
But afterward I only ended up using it a couple of times a year. There were a few notable games along the way like Astral Chain, Luigis Mansion 3, Xenoblade 3, Fire Emblem Engage, Triangle Strategy and Tears of the Kingdom. Some great games in there but when you spread them out over 7 years it's not a whole lot.

I played some great indie games on it over the years, though it also quickly became apparent that in anything other than games with simple 2D graphics you'd be greatly sacrificing IQ and performance for portability.

Then a couple of years ago looked into maybe installing CFW on it and using it for emulation, but from what I gathered it isn't particularly good at that either (unless you overclock it, which I don't feel comfortable doing)
