Where Ya Curly Mustaches At?! Marvel vs Capcom 3 Hype Thread of Scoops!

MVC is so fucking crazy when you think about it for more than 2 seconds....

I mean just look at the MVC3 trailer... Chris a NORMAL HUMAN BEING is squaring off against Hulk who's strength according to Marvel is INFINITE. He is also super fast and can rip Chris in two before he can blink. And yeah... bullets aren't going to do much damage to him either.

This is what makes the franchise so great... you have your regular heroes who are just normal humans with weapons and stuff (Frank West, Chris, Jill) and then you have omnipotent entities who basically can control the cosmos, alter matter and travel dimensions (Shuma Gorath, Thanos etc.). Everyone is brought to an equal playing field... doesn't matter if you can teleport, fly or throw rocks you can kick anyone's ass if you do it right! :lol

That was......... BEAUTIFUL

Reading some of the posts here regarding DLC characters, guest characters, and console exclusive characters... I'm just glad GAF isn't in charge of creating MvC3.

This man gets it. :D

I've been thinking this since back with Xmen vs. SF. I mean, even back with that smaller scope, it's still the same thing: logically speaking, Ryu and Ken have NO real business trying to fight against the likes of Wolvie, Cyclops, Magneto and the muthafuggin' JUGGERNAUT (BITCH!).

But in its own weird way, the MAHVEL continuum "works". You see Ryu throwing Hadoukens as big as he is, and you just go with it, if not declare it utterly AWESOME. Then you just throw in a hodge podge of characters on both sides, that we had a chance to grow up with, and have them doing SPECTACULAR stuff together, Capcom style.

MvC3's trailer, in my eyes, proves that Capcom is CLEARLY the only one who should be making games based on Marvel's properties. A decade later, and a trailer for a game set to be released next year, is able to generate more hype than anything the likes of Sega or Activision has done in these last few years. :lol

I've noticed that this Super Hero Squad (Marvel characters) seems to be popular with kids these days. I wonder if Marvel would try to force a large majority of the MvC3 Marvel side to coincide with the show to get kids interested:

I mean, Hulk/Iron Man/Wolverine are already confirmed from the Heroes.
Captain America makes 4.
I've seen Dormammu, Juggernaut, and Dr. Doom consistantly guessed for some of the other Marvel silhouettes.

At one time, I thought it would be interesting if they made a Marvel vs Capcom for Wii using the SHS characters (models and all) and Pocket/Puzzle Fighter-style models for the Capcom cast and it could be a mix between TvC and Pocket Fighter.

But yeah, I'm wondering if someone like Reptile might be stuck in there like Marrow for MvC2

Return of the classic BIG HEAD MODE cheat confirmed ?

I'm pretty convinced of my theory here. I'm not a huge Marvel comics guy -- my knowledge is limited to generic FF, X-Men, and the major hitters like Spiderman. So I'd never heard of Dormammu. I kept thinking "who the hell is this guy that keeps getting mentioned?". Then I looked at the SHS site this morning and saw he was a featured villain. Reptil changing into dinosaurs? That seems like he'd probably be in.

OYAAAAAAAJI!

Hey, I like Dan too. But imo, he, as well as the majority of the Street Fighter roster, can afford to wait their turn for a sequel or two in this new Marvel chronology.

After all, at most, we may be blessed with any where between 30-40 characters. Like others, I don't want SFers to be dominating the roster any more than I want too many X-men. Go for as much variety as possible, and THEN start expanding on that for future games, where we could easily start surpassing MvC2's roster by MvC4, if Capcom and Marvel will it as such! :D

Dante - AWESOME
Ryu - Yeah no shit. Awesome.
Chun-Li - Yeah, sure. I guess.
Frank West - All over my face.
Felicia - UGH. I hate that bitch.

Trish - What the hell? What about Vergil?!?!

And I think we can all agree that Lady beats the living shit out of Trish.

Level for both platforms.

Sure did... it made DLC so the other platform could purchase the missing character. :lol

I'm already going PS3 on this, since PS3 has become my online platform and home of my arcade sticks... so while I'm against the inclusion of platform specific characters, i think it would be fucking wicked to play as Kratos.

That said, again, I hope they don't do it.

Not intending to derail the thread too much, but who the fuck is Reptil???

He's young, opinionated, and he brings extra firepower to the team with his Dino Powers. He's able to summon a vast array of Dino-abilities by shouting out the dinosaur attribute he needs, for example "Velociraptor Legs!" "Pterodactyl Wings!" or "Brachiosaurus Muscle!" Captain America leveraged Reptil into a reluctant Wolverine's care. Now Wolverine is teaching Reptil to handle his powers, and -- just as importantly -- how to be a hero. He feels very competitive with the Falcon, who shrugs it off, but not without some worry. Reptil wears an elemental totem, the Sunstone, on a sturdy choker around his neck.

Some new info posted on Marvel.com

Excerpts
"I would have to say the goal is to take the best elements of 'Marvel vs. Capcom 2' and 'Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars' and put them together to make something very good. I think if you look at 'MvC2' and recent titles I'm in charge of, you can see where we're going in terms of fighting game system. ['MvC3' is a] nexus between the two games. 'MvC2' gamers have certain expectations. It won't change everything you know about fighting games; [it's] meeting place between them.
According to Niitsuma-san, there will be over 30 fighters in the game.

"'MvC2' had 15 years of sprites to steal from," Killian added. "We could grab them and throw them into the game and then balance [the gameplay]. These [characters and 3D models] are really lovingly recreated. The team is dying already trying to get more in there."

"We want to put everything in to please the fans," admitted Niitsuma-san. "Since 'MvC2' came out, Capcom came out with many games. We'll be announcing characters periodically. The dev team themselves want to get some of the newer characters in."

"There have been Marvel characters created and who have gotten more popular in the last 10 years," Baker added. "That's influenced our decicsion."
"Instead of spending our time making multiple costumes, we're spending our time making more characters. Our goal is to put as many characters in the game as possible. If we can make more costumes, we will. You'd rather have more characters, than more costumes, right?"
"It's not a story-driven RPG," Baker explained, "[but] story is very important to Marvel. There'll be some [exciting] announcements in the next few months. There's definitely more of a story focus, definitely the biggest in this particular series. It will have a cohesive story that will have a beginning and an ending for each character."
"We are going to change all the music," said Niitsuma-san. "We're trying to make a lot of music for this game. It needs a lot of content, that extends to music as well. We're going back to the drawing board."

I'd honestly prefer Trish over Lady AND Vergil.

I hope they keep it in each character's continuity. Chris Redfield needs to be the real Chris Redfield and not Chris Redfield from Capcom world where every Capcom character lives in harmony.

Why Boo? I love the idea. It's probably something along the lines of SFIV.

Dedicating time to story means less time dedicated to stuffing the game with characters. I agree with booing a "Story" in MvC. Hell, I would take 10 more characters if that meant the single player consisted of only a standard arcade mode, and practice.

This may surprise you, but very few of Marvel's writers limelight as 3D modellers.

Bububu all the time spend on marketing could be used for working on the game. Many gamers seem to think that the same people do everything on the project and time is being stolen from important parts.

reminds me of the retards that were crying that square enix should finish their games instead of making metal gear solid figurines :lol

Um, so adding something like a "cohesive story that will have a beginning and ending for each character" couldn't possibly affect something like making characters while also trying to balance the game? I'm being serious here. How could they have a "cohesive story" while just packing the game with characters?

Kuraudo said:

I get your point, and I agree with it on some levels, but it comes down to Capcom's priorities. For example, the most probable reason that MvC2 didn't have a real story mode is because the roster was so massive. It was a concession they were willing to make given the priorities of that game. If MvC3's priorities are different and Capcom decides that it's a better idea to have fewer characters so that they could create a story mode with a reasonable amount of work, then yes, having a story mode would affect the rest of the game.

And while the writers of a story would obviously never do 3D modeling, they still need to be paid, and Capcom could just as easily be paying more 3D modelers the money that they are paying the writers.

You know, i'm all about this being a player vs. player focus, first and foremost, but honestly I love the fact that they are focusing effort on a story this time around. And character specific stuff is pretty damn good for a game with this kind of roster.

I guess the thing is, more than anything this series has always been about fanservice for me. From the humorous endings (Shuma Gorath having tea with Dhalsim and contemplating existence) to more serious ones (Ken holding Ryu's lifeless body who had just been killed by Omega Red, then gets killed himself) I always wished they'd explore it further.

Some new Marvel character I've only seen when I've caught bits of SHS. Basically a kid that can change to utilize dinosaur abilities:

He's young, opinionated, and he brings extra firepower to the team with his Dino Powers. He's able to summon a vast array of Dino-abilities by shouting out the dinosaur attribute he needs, for example "Velociraptor Legs!" "Pterodactyl Wings!" or "Brachiosaurus Muscle!" You know what is enough to make me happy... if everyone from MVC1 returns in this game.

MVC1 had a pretty good roster even though it was pretty small (15 characters I think unless you include the hidden Ken and Akuma characters).

Marvel_vs_Capcom_Ryu--article_image.jpg

CAPCOM

Chun-Li
Ryu
Zangief
Mega Man
Captain Commando
Strider
Jin Saotome
Morrigan

MARVEL

Wolverine
Gambit
Spider Man
Venom
Hulk
Captain America
Iron Man/Warmachine

I think that at the BARE MINIMUM these characters should be in the game. And they can add characters on top of that to round out the list even more. It's only fair, these were the originals so they should stay.

Ewww I say Boo to that. :/

I understand where you're coming from though.

Alright, maybe I went a little far, but still. I'm not necessarily hating on the idea of a story, but to say that a "cohesive" story mode won't have an impact on how many characters end up in the game seems wrong to me.
