Where Ya Curly Mustaches At?! Marvel vs Capcom 3 Hype Thread of Scoops!

Actually, they released some info about MUA2 last year at a couple of their Mondo Marvel panels at cons.

Hmm... I only recall MUA2 making convention appearances at game-specific panels, but I guess I could be wrong. Still, I wouldn't bet on any MvC3 announcement at C2E2 in the absence of any Marvel gaming panels.

Well if nothing's shown tomorrow, it's just a couple more days til Monday, but damn is it going to feel like a year waiting.

i don't understand the timing of this. its like apple announcing the ipad 2 a week before the ipad launch.

Just because SSFIV and MvsC3 are both fighting games, doesn't mean they appeal to the same audiences and one takes precedent over the other. I have zero desire to buy SSFIV but would be all over a new MvsC game, and there are many people in the opposite camp and likely even more who will buy both.

Marvel 2 XBLA/PSN came out last August

i meant super street fighter IV coming out soon. seems odd they would be announcing another fighting game that will take away some of the spotlight from SSFIV when they could have just waited till after.

perhaps referencing SSF4 coming out soon..?

This would definitely take some of the hype away, but.. SSF4's had non-stop hype for like half a year now so I wouldn't mind.

Also, if all we get is "MVC3 is real" with no further details (no screens, no confirmed characters, nothing) everyone will be hyped on MVC3 for like 2 pages, then go back to whatever they were previously doing.

The Marvel licenses were always split up, EA was the last to hold the rights to using Marvel characters in a fighting game, but they lost/gave it up.

AFAIK Activision now holds all forms though

Oh hey, Halo ODST came with a Halo Reach beta. Did Halo fans say "why buy OSDT if Reach is just around the corner?"

Not only that, but SF and MvC are dramatically different games. That appeal to different audiences, as evidenced by tim1138's post

^^
There should be at least a few screens, a la Street Fighter IV's reveal.

And that Marvel editor did say he was there to show the press something... pretty sure he wouldn't mean he was showing a powerpoint text slide saying, "ITS COMING" to the press.

This game is probably not coming out until the holiday season, at the earliest. I wouldn't be worried.

I still can't see how Capcom could make a game though since they don't hold the license anymore, and I doubt Activision is willing to let go.

Why? Activision hasn't made a marvel fighter.

i'm not saying they won't buy it, its just odd to be doing something that will take away some of the media attention that could be on SSFIV.

i doubt it will impact the sales much but its a strange decision to make when they could have just waited a few weeks, considering they are no doubt putting a lot of effort into hyping SSFIV, why steal your own thunder?

i know they appeal to different audiences in the crazy shoryuken.com world but in reality i dont think theres much difference.

If you admit it won't impact sales than why is it a strange decision? SSFIV is out in what, a week or two? A potential MvsC3 wouldn't see release until late summer at the earliest and would likely be a holiday title. Why not start the hype now?

Again, the SF and Vs. games play completely different and appeal to different types of gamers--they're not in danger of cannibalizing any of their sales by announcing a new Vs. game next week.

This isn't like when they initially announced RE4 as GC exclusive and then the week before its release announced it was also going to hit PS2 later in the year.

Capcom is doing the same thing with Resident Evil games. Around the time Umbrella Chronicles was released number of trailers and shows about RE5 increased. At the RE5 release event Darkside Chronicles was announced. When that game was out, they started hyping RE5 Gold Edition.

It's just the way to constantly keep hyping something, to be in the limelight.

Anyway, it would truly amazing if somehow Capcom was able to grab a hold of the Disney license to include Darkwing Duck, The Rescue Rangers, Aladdin , Launchpad & Scrooge, and even King Louie from TaleSpin for any potential Marvel vs. Capcom titles. I'm a mark for any Disney title that was created by Capcom.

IF, Darkwing Duck ever made it into a Capcom fighting game my head would explode... Would be EPIC.

i think you're underestimating the appeal of SF and VS game to the masses though, there are a lot of people who buy tekken, soul calibur and street fighter even though they play completely differently.

by not impacting sales i mean that for like 99.99% of people it will make no difference, but why even chance it with that 0.01% when they have next to nothing to lose by just waiting a few weeks on MvC3? even forgetting about people choosing either or, its bound to mean less talk about SSFIV next week in the media.

comparisons to halo and stuff arent really valid because fighting games as a genre are different in what people expect. i think the masses are generally only interested in the next big thing, whether its tekken, sc or sf.

I do not see that it would take anything away from SSFIV.
The VS games are a vastly different game experience.

I understand what you're saying, I just don't agree with you that acknowledging MvsC3 exists next week will have any adverse effects on sales of SSFIV at all.

Also, MvsC3 isn't going to be out a "few weeks" after SSFIV--more like 6-7 months later.

Nintendo announced NSMB Wii and Super Mario Galaxy 2 on the exact same day, yet they had no problems selling NSMB Wii when people knew SMG2 would be out later on.

I would not count on Marvel 3 being released this year.

Yeah in hindsight you're probably right. It will probably come out sometime between Feb-Apr of next year to give them a whole year to hype it up.

An agonizing wait indeed :/

but it makes sense. Capcom is going to want a big fighter for 2011 and outside of SFV it doesn't get any bigger than MvC3.

Exactly, the less you give attention to those kinds of posts, the less obnoxious they are.
To be honest I liked it when the mods made people fess up, shut up, or get banned when it came to teasing "insider" info.

I am positive Capcom holds the Marvel fighting license as of the current generation. A few years back when Capcom was releasing Capcom vs. SNK 2 with online play for PS2/XBX, they also released a PS2/XBX port of Marvel vs Capcom 2 without online play. During this time, another company, either Activision or EA, held the Marvel fighting game license. I remembered reading somewhere that though Capcom did not currently hold the license, they were able to release a straight port of MvC2 but without changing the source code. Adding online play means changing the source code, which is what we see now with current gen, and we know EA doesn't have the fighting license anymore.

I am curious to see what designs they use for this game for Marvel. A lot of them are still the same, but certain characters have changed enough that it would be weird to see them play in a MvC2 style. Namely Magneto, last time I checked he actually kind of looks like an old man now, not a buff guy with long white hair. Be kind of weird to see him do some of those kicks he does in MvC2.

I am sure either way there will be DLC with early 90's/Jim Lee style designs as that is what many people are familiar with.

I hope they get some of the old voice cast ESPECIALLY Cal Dodd as Wolverine.

Activision has the Marvel License atm iirc

what makes you think they have it this gen, MvC2's XBLA/PSN release didn't change the source code it just ran it in an emulator that allowed people to assume the roles of player one and player two online. Nothing was added or changed and capcom said the licenses were the reason
