Marvel vs. Capcom 3: it's about time we got a real, high-definition upgrade to one of the best fighting games ever created. From the information we have heard the game will be disc-based (no more XBLA or PSN for MvC fans) and the graphics will be seriously upgraded, running at a full 1080P. Another little hint was the fact that Marvel-employee Agent M (Ryan Penagos) was in Hawaii this past week, at the same hotel, showing off something he could not yet talk about. Oh anyone else notice the Twitter account for MvC has popped back up, making tweets almost daily. Something is about to happen with that franchise and I'm willing to guarantee this is just that announcement (throw that in with the fact that my mole is inside, learning everything they need to know on this fighting game). The only information still scarce on this game is that of the roster, we can confirm that Wolverine, Spider-Man, The Hulk, Magneto, Storm, and a few others will be back; but the team behind MvC3 have said they will be blowing fans out of the water with the sheer number of characters this game includes (on the disc). Surely the unlock-able gameplay will be back and in full force. As far as gameplay goes the Capcom team decided to stick with what we know best, 2D - that being said it is not tradition 2D fighting, think more of a cross between Street Fighter IV and the original Marvel vs. Capcom 2 (sounds epically awesome to us). Other details, screenshots, trailers, and more will be released next week once the official embargo lifts. Another rumor my mole told me was that gamers attending this year's E3 2010 conference in Los Angeles will have a chance to go hands-on with Marvel vs. Capcom 3 - it should ship later this year or early 2011 for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. There are many other rumors swirling around but we think we pled our case just fine, MvC3 is coming to next-gen consoles and will be officially announced very soon (like next week).

Nothing about uniforms, there will be at leasst 3 per character; and the graphics will resemble the Street Fighter IV engine.....still in 2D....

Actually I've always felt that it was ugly as all hell. You can make beautiful 3D, but SFIV is not an example of it.

i'm going to go ahead and call bullshit on planetxbox360. there is a 0% chance that a retail ps3/360 game would run at 1080p. 0%. isn't virtual tennis 3 pretty much the only native 1080p 360 retail game? which means they're just stabbing around in the dark.

for what it's worth, i do think marvel vs capcom 3 was shown at captivate.

The game looks like diarrhea, but it plays great. That's why it's such a great game. The visuals don't really matter in that situation.

With the Marvel VS Capcom series, it's a bit of a different story. The visuals were a large part of the fun of those two games. A lot of people might feel differently. But to a large number of people, the 2D visuals were a huge part of the enjoyablity factor of those games. It isn't really surprising that people would hope the next installment stick to 2D. Useless perhaps, given the current gaming climate. But not surprising.

I always thought MvC3 with Particle effects like SFIV would be godlike. 2D just seems like a huge waste of time unless cutbacks are made in many other places to accomodate for the budget, even if it is high budget game. And if they truly are going for a massive amount of characters in the game, in HD, then it is definitely 3D.

I don't hate 2D fighters, but the resilience to "moving forward" into 3D rubs me the wrong way. People see 2D as perfection only because they can't find imperfections, but I think the possibilities with 3D models are endless when your not confined to one plane. The illusion of depth could prove awesome. Thats just me. And I definately don't think it looks like diarrhea, I think it has some of the best visuals in any fighting game this past generation.

I do agree with the "visuals" remark, but not for the same reasons.

The main thing, at least to me, was that the games threw in a lot of highly-recognizable characters: Wolverine, Spidey, and various Capcom characters that defined that era. They were rendered in a comic-book/anime style that any 90s kid, or kid at heart, would recognize. The game play did the rest. :D

So to me, the fact it was in 2D was just a by-product of that era. A current-era sequel doesn't "need" to be in 2D to accomplish the same feat.

The only thing I can say about the visuals in regards to 2D vs 3D is that, while I don't think the decision to go 3D is necessarily bad, I DO think that 3D is not yet advanced enough to give off the same..."charm"(for the lack of a better word) that the visuals of the older games had.

I believe one day that these systems will be able to push as many polygons as they need in order to recreate that sort of feel. I think that day might be sooner than we think. However, I do not think we are there yet.

In regards to SFIV, I think it was more of a matter of the questionable art style that attracts a repugnant reaction from people, and less to do with the number of polygons it's pushing.

Either way, I still think the visuals in Super SF II and indeed SF III look much nicer(subjective) than those in almost any modern 3D fighter.

But as many have said, it is pointless to complain if they don't pursue the 2D route. 2D is more expensive, more time-consuming, difficult to find the talent to do, and probably most importantly, gives off the false impression to many gamers as being "dated".

art style isn't that hot, to be honest.

backgrounds are really good but characters needs a better anatomy in their shape (can't find the words in english, sorry).

chun-li, for example, is really bad in that regard. ken too with massive eyebrows and the muscles of hulk hogan in a charlie chaplin body.

2d vs 3d isn't about the gaming climate. There's nobody left to make 2d games like MvC2 at Capcom, and it'd be prohibitively expensive to make 50+ characters with sprites that look like they were made in the last decade.

Can't wait for the screens. Whichever way they decide to go, I'm sure it'll impress. I was down on SFIV's appearance at first, but after seeing it in motion I didn't have any issues. I think it's a pretty nice-looking game.

I don't think the game looks as good as 3S- but nothing will for a long time, and it's not practical to make those sprites today- look at how hard it is for SNK.

SF4 has a charm graphically to it, which is what counts- kinda like TF2.

Not a whole lot of interest in this game- and I doubt it will even get played here (our community NEVER plays Marvel- people would play Vampire first) They put GGPO in, I'll probably give it a shot though.

I'm kinda not happy this is coming out- but only because I wanted them to do a Vampire game instead- which I don't think would happen now. That said, MvC3 is a much better business decision, and I do respect that.

Agreed. SF4's hyper masculine art-style might not sit well with people, but Capcom raised the bar for quality of animation in polygonal fighting games.

SF3 is so beautifully animated though. I just hope that that breed of fighting games doesn't go extinct, even though I'm sympathetic to how difficult it is to animate that stuff.
 
For once a 3D game has characters that have diverse faces, not just the standard "one face that gets swapped around and looks like your generic anime perfect face" and people call it a monkey gorilla face :lol Sorry, I cant get over that.

I do think Ken in SF IV looks pretty bad though. The choice of hair was regrettable, for one
 
Sounds great! I'm excited. I just hope it stays far away from SF4 in almost every area. Not a fan of that game other than the ink style.

I knew it would be on PS3/360 only though. I'm sure Capcom's going to cite TvC's sales as the reason too. Yeah, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. Just like they cited Chop till You Drop for Dead Rising 2 and Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles for Resident Evil 5

Im with you with everything in this post. I understand some of the inky and bulky character models (and faces) could put some people off, but the animations were just stupendous and the ultra's were done fantastically that I love it. As always, I wish they kept the ink and SF4-intro like style, but it would've upset many people I think at the same time.

I agreed. Marvel vs Capcom 2 have too much SF characters, and I would love to see more variable of characters.

Also I hope for Original Megaman (MvC2) since i dislike Megman Legend (TvC)
 
Quick note on style though, if this game does use the SF IV engine, it still doesnt mean that the ART STYLE has to resemble SF IV in any way shape or form though.

For one, I doubt Ikeno would be the art director since hes got other shit going on, plus you have to choose a style that best fits the characters and feel of the game. SF game in 3D can be many things and SF IV was just one example.

I think the primate similarities extend to the body types, too. So ugly. The precedent for interesting proportions and designs, however, is Tatsunoko Versus Capcom. We're safe, I assume.

Why people place SF4 animation that high? I find the animation averages, I would agreed if Capcom had taken the time to animate the character clothing movement properly to SF3 level at least.
 
Wonder if they will bring back Guile God tier in MVSC...

Edit : Also if they use the sf4 engine, I wouldn't be surprised they recycled the sf4 art for the characters within mvsc.. .albeit some cosmetic changes. After all, old sprites we're recycled for the longuest time until sf3.
 
Capcom is going to have a ball teasing us with the MVC3 roster. One character every rare moon, and they will be sure not to screw up and let another list leak.

Satan may have been the end boss, but it was ARREMER that really was the bane of Arthur's existence! :lol
 
You are right, the trailer that was shown was shown in 1080p but the game will only run 720p - sorry for the confusion!
