I never got into Star Trek, but I really liked The Orville, so I was thinking maybe I should look into it. Without getting into spoilers, what are your thoughts on each series and what would you recommend?
The Orville is garbage. Disovery and Orville are on same boat. Pathetic writing.
TNG and DS9 at least. TNG before DS9. Both of them start off on the weak side but end up strong, though IMO TNG started to drop off again after s5 where as DS9 remained stronger overall.I never got into Star Trek, but I really liked The Orville, so I was thinking maybe I should look into it. I think he was dating Halston sage during part of the filming of the second season. I think that's why she left. I don't think it was a "bad" break up but maybe that's why season 2 is more emoSeason 1 of Orville was good. Season 2 was just bad.
Almost every episode of the second season was about relationship drama. It's almost as if Seth McFarlane went through some heartbreak when he was writing the script for that season.
The two episodes about Isaac's home planet were just dumb and badly paced. The time traveling plot of the season finale was cringe as f*ck.

Don’t watch Picard. Watch TNG we’re what Picard did was interesting.no matter what the right answer is, I just known that Picard is definitely the wrong answer

He did. He was plowing that hot ass security girl and had to write her off the showSeason 1 of Orville was good. Season 2 was just bad.

I have to wonder if that was by her request or not. I know they gave her a really respectful goodbye episode. It's funny to think half the cast was dating each other, between that relationship and the pilot and second in command characters. The names escape me, because I haven't watched the show for a while. They were dating in Season 1. Broke up and she was removed from the show.
Humor wasn't at all what I liked most about The Orville. But is The Lower Decks even funny or otherwise entertaining? The real answer to the question "Which Star Trek is most like The Orville?"
That goofy pilot guy was doing Palicki? Daaaayum.I have to wonder if that was by her request or not. I know they gave her a really respectful goodbye episode. I've personally really enjoyed it. I think it's the only "modern" Trek I've actually liked. Like The Orville, it doesn't rely on it's humor completely - there are interesting characters and some touching moments.Humor wasn't at all what I liked most about The Orville. But is The Lower Decks even funny or otherwise entertaining?
No and no.Humor wasn't at all what I liked most about The Orville. But is The Lower Decks even funny or otherwise entertaining?
It has its moments IMO. But those moments kinda require you to know the Trek catalog inside and out. We're full-on snacking on memba berries for this one.Humor wasn't at all what I liked most about The Orville. But is The Lower Decks even funny or otherwise entertaining?
That's a great point about orville relying on nostalgia for its humor. I really like the show;Seth having a Kermit the frog on his desk is okay with me but then Scott grimes is always mentioning 21st century references. One guy obsessed with our era is one thing but half the crew talking about pop culture like they were alive then is far fetched. As much as I like The Orville, like family guy it almost seemed to rely on other shows nostalgia to carry it through. It's simply just too lite to really be considered great for me. It lacked the depth of the other shows had developing everything slower. I'm still watching all the other Trek series decades later. That's just never gonna happen with The Orville.
Ultimately I believe Next Generation will always be GOAT. But the TOS had the best movies.
Deep Space 9 was a nice change of pace for the Trek shows. But it lacks the "catch a random episode" appeal the rest of the shows have. So I have a hard time starting starting it, knowing that I'll have to really dig in to get the most out of the show.
