Here on NG, I can usually talk about my culture as a black American without downing white Americans or any other culture. I find that refreshing. Even though some don't like that there's a Black History Month and panned my threads about it, most were civil and actually contributed. Cultural exchange is cool. I even shared about Deaf culture and that was well received.

Well my last ban at ResetEra before asking for my account to be nuked was for dismissing concerns of representation for having the audacity to say people should be able to say Ghostbusters 2016 sucked without bringing politics into it, and I can’t remember my last ban here. They both have strengths and weaknesses. I feel like I can be a lot more open and say dumb shit/make jokes here on Neogaf without getting into trouble over every little thing. Hell, I got banned on RE for making a joke about browsing porn. I wasn't being malicious or picking on anyone, wasn't posting porn, nope just made a joke about it and boom. Just way way overboard. On the other hand, I feel like some people here take the whole anti-SJW thing way too far, almost like they go out of their way to be offended by "liberals."
As for activity, RE has neogaf beat these days pretty handily. The days of devs posting on Neogaf seems to largely be gone as well, although I think the heyday in that regard was a decade ago, well before the split. OTs, news, and rumors go up faster on RE and there' s just more discussion.

On topic. I rarely visit Resetera. I don't really get the freak-out mentality - on either side of the political spectrum. Life isn't fair and sometimes you will be screwed. Doesn't mean you can't have an opinion or say something, of course, but not like this:

I had a back and forth with the mods there using a different handle. Conclusion was that they don't support free speech or any centrist point of view so I bailed. They don't realize it, kind of reminds me of how I used to think as a child.

ResetEra has better discussion around pretty much anything as long as it doesn't drift into anything political, mainly because the presence of official industry players is higher. But the moment it does, it's a complete shitshow. NeoGAF probably will never get that presence back because the level of freedom here makes it less suitable for frequent posting if you are trying to maintain a more public safe image.
GAF is alot more open and you're free to actually converse with people who disagree with you, which is excellent.
Funny thing i've noticed about GAF though is that the more passionate "anti-Liberal" rhetoric is a direct mirror to the crazy "anti-Conservative" shit you hear on ERA. Silly arguments and exaggerations and all. The same kind of thing i'd call out to the crazy Era posters when they got a little too loony in their accusations and viewpoints.

Doesn't really matter, as ResetEra is overall less offensive to "people" in general because the posting rules dictate that it is.
So yeah, however you want to describe it, it's safer.
