Tomorrow one of the below happens. Which would have you shook more?

Someone proves ghosts are real (no religion involvement, just scientifically proven)
Intelligent life lands on Earth peacefully to exchange tech and ideas

Aliens landing on Earth would be a huge deal. I hope they come in peace ✌️

Aliens. Which we, as a race, would try to murder, enslave and steal their tech for our own selfish military uses.

Aliens isn't an absurd concept. It's a pretty realistic scenario, the only thing that makes it unlikely is the size and age of the universe.

Ghosts is a bed time story scenario. If proven real it would completely change the way we see reality. It would also mean that out current lives are just one small part of existence and there are other things after death other than nothingness. Also, who knows what other fantasy thing is real?

I think the ghost scenario would be more impactful on an individual level but the Aliens scenario would completely change the whole world very fast.

What an intriguing question. I voted aliens, as not being alone in the universe would be a profound revelation.

I take "shock" to mean fundamentally change our day-to-day lives. Aliens go hand-in-hand with futuristic tech, so I voted them since that'd have more far-reaching ramifications on how our lives operate.

I feel like discovering ghosts would have a worldwide emotional resonance, but there's not much real-word (i.e., economic/financial) impact to be derived from it. Unless we figure out a way to monetize it like Ghostbusters?

Yeah the world would get shocked alright.

1) This was new to me, so thanks for sharing. Some of the best animated city destruction I've seen in a while, and
2) "Are they all destroyed?" "...Probably" "Oh no!" with the musical sting is some of the best unintentional comedy I've seen in a while.

I don't get how bad English dubs usually are, it's completely unnatural sounding.

ghosts. it would fuck up so many religions. it would cause so many wars and the entire world would turn upside down.

aliens landing would be crazy but it depends what the aliens are like and how they interact with us.

Yup alien's landing is an event that can exist within our current understanding. Ghosts being real completely upends all of science and religion - we would be entering a completely new reality.

I think media totally overstates how much people would freak out if aliens were proven to be real. Most people just don't care about anything unless it affects their lifestyle.

Since ghosts are total bullshit and the existence of alien life forms is pretty plausible, I'd say the first one.

Ghosts being proven as real would shock me more, but aliens would cause worldwide panic. Both would be game changers.

Post and poll ask different questions.

I’m pretty sure proving intelligent alien life existing would ALSO fuck shit up in many various religious communities, not just proving ghosts are real. Hell, it could get worse.

For example, Christianity is founded on the idea that humans are unique from other animals in just intelligence but that we also have a soul. If aliens as intelligent if not more so show up, that muddles that concept. And some, if not many, Christians might be led to argue these aliens don’t have souls which could lead to all sorts of nastiness. Fuck, we know how many churches don’t look kindly towards the LGBT community, I feel it could get even nastier towards potential aliens.

At least ghosts are souls of people presumably so it doesn’t fuck with that aspect.

Sorry, didn’t mean to make it an anti-Christian post, many are chill people, but there’s also many who would totally be complete assholes towards aliens purely to maintain their religious beliefs even if the aliens were super chill.

As for which one I hope happens, well I’m not into spiritual necrophilia so there’s an obvious clear winner:

We kill the aliens they become ghosts and kill us, and then we are all ghosts

I chose aliens assuming it’s some mass landing and not some tiny boring solo alien landing on earth.

Ghosts to me is kind of boring.

A shot ton of aliens landing via flying saucers would have much more appeal than ghosts which is more an individual/family thing.

I think, given the odds, there has to be aliens. Ghosts however...it would be interesting if a ghost was a person stuck between dimensions or multiverses.

Ghosts. Aliens existing makes sense, whereas only weirdos believe in ghosts. It would be much harder to come to grips with the fact that your grandma might be floating around your place while you're trying to crank.

Ghosts for the same reasons others have said. Aliens existing is probable. Ghosts existing would completely change our understanding of existence.

I went with aliens. It would essentially mean all of our science is pretty much wrong. Ghosts was kind of hard to overcome as it would essentially prove an afterlife but the fact that lots already believe in an afterlife made me overcome that.

This was way harder than I expected. Fun thread

You phrased it "shock the world more." So I'm sticking to that in a literal sense. One of your choices was "aliens landing on earth" not "we find out aliens are real" which are two totally different things entirely. I went with aliens, because a lot of people believe in ghosts already, and if somehow ghosts are proven real, I'm not sure how people would react to it. It would kind of just be like "Well, we all have existed throughout human history with ghosts around and they haven't really done much to alter our way of life, so whatever."

But an alien spacecraft landing on earth for all to see, would be the biggest story in the history of mankind and there wouldn't be a close second. It would be all everyone talked about non-stop from the moment it happened until our lives ended. It would change everything. It would change the course of history. We couldn't live the same way ever again. Everything from that moment in time would stop, and a new timeline of history would begin. It would be adjusting to new beliefs and possibilities like we never did before. Not to mention depending on how those aliens behaved, met with fear or excitement about if/when the next aliens would come to join in the other ship landing. Imagine watching it unfold on social media live as an alien craft landed on earth. It would shatter the internet like no other thing ever.

I agree with what you said about aliens landing on earth. It would be mind-blowing. Not only would it prove we're not alone in the universe, but we could also learn from them and develop our own form of interstellar travel. From that moment human history would be changed forever.

Yet, I also think evidence of the existence of ghosts would be equally earth shattering. It would prove that death isn't the end and there is a from of afterlife.

Both events would melt minds and break the internet.

While I don't believe in ghosts I still think it'd have less of an impact as Aliens would, even if Aliens are a high possibility to exist somewhere at sometime.

Believing in Aliens is one thing but having them come to Earth is another.

I can only speak for myself, but finding out ghosts are real really wouldn’t shock me. And I’m an atheist who doesn’t believe in the afterlife. But it either exists or it doesn’t. If it does it doesn’t really change my life at all in any meaningful way. Because they’ve existed this whole time anyway, nothing really will have changed for me. And it wouldn’t change my beliefs as an atheist in the traditional sense. All it would mean to me is there’s more to this universe than we previously thought. Some type of spiritual realm at the very least. Which I never have ruled out anyway.

But aliens landing would impact my life in the here and now, while I’m still alive. I think in general people are very concerned about the immediate, not what happens after they’re gone. I honestly think a lot of people wouldn’t even care if ghosts were confirmed real. I think there would be a segment of the population who’d go crazy over it and be super obsessed with it. But there isn’t a person on earth who wouldn’t care if aliens physically landed on earth.

With universe this vast, it's kinda impossible to not to think there's some other intelligent life forms out there, and their chance of visiting us.

But ghosts. I have been kinda bothered when my grandparents who passed away would be looking down on me when I'm fapping... and if ghosts were proven real - I would be kicking my blanket while trying to fall a sleep every night with embarrassment.

Depends on what kind of Aliens. Are the Aliens from the 4th Dimension, an alternate reality or simply another place in this universe?

Ghosts on the other hand lead us to question of the after life, religion and how many times your dead Gran watched you jerk it. Knowing that your dead Gran watched me jerk it would shock me more then Aliens.

I don't believe in ghosts and alien life is a statistical probability.

So, ghosts.
You take the concept of a reality completely for granted. Statistical probability based on light that in many cases takes many years (thousands, tens of thousands, millions...) to reach Earth. Consider that we don't know what our galactic neighborhood looks like at this very moment... but we can tell you what it did look like!

Ghosts = afterlife confirmed = death not permanent = ???
Depends on what you consider to be a ghost. In the loosest sense, ghosts may not be the souls of the dead.

Aliens isn't an absurd concept. It's a pretty realistic scenario, the only thing that makes it unlikely is the size and age of the universe.

So were germs...

Aliens are most likely real but ghosts? That would be fucked up tbh. Imagine knowing you are being watched while jerking off.
Why you have ever assumed you're not being watched is pure insanity to me! Reality, whatever it is, didn't just randomly into existence, but you want to believe you can fap in complete privacy. I bet you also believe you can browse the web in total privacy from a public computer, too! I mean, you're living a life and a reality on someone else's machine, as well, and you conceived that you could fap privately!

Yup alien's landing is an event that can exist within our current understanding. Ghosts being real completely upends all of science and religion - we would be entering a completely new reality.
Wait, what was it that Jesus was driving out of the afflicted? What was it that he sent into a nearby herd of pigs? Upend what?...

Don't be. Just figure that your whole life is recorded. Figure it's not hard to recall it and play it back. Scientifically, we may some day discover a way to reconstruct everything that has ever happened -- why/how? Because all this matter has been here and interacting with other matter for billions of years. It's entirely possible that we'll discover some quantum history that tracks everything that has occurred to an atom. Oh no, there goes all the secrets!!

There may not be any secrets in the first place. We don't know what existence is. We don't know what reality is. We don't understand how any of this can be. You're really better off assuming that we're all living in a grand simulation, and the owners/operators of it can see everything. And just assume that your meager fapping is expected behavior and not a big deal at all to anyone. I mean, I literally assume everyone I know or knew was engaged in all manner of horrific erotic fapping.
