Was anyone expecting this to be good? Has Michael Keaton done anything worthwhile in the past 15 years? Really?

These are the questions that do not have to be answered!

No...but he's so damned lovable, I think underneath it all, we were all holding out a small flame of hope that this could be his comeback movie.

The fact that it's getting released in January should tell you that it's awful. I think it has been 8-9 years since a good movie was released at this time of year.

Well, in that case...

Jacky Brown

Expanding on the possibilities of EVP is a great idea for a plot, but my guess is that instead of having the balls to actually delve into the possibilities and try to create something truly disturbing, the film-makers probably went for the cheap and typical "boo!" scares.

I'll still probably see it just to see what they actually accomplish with the EVP stuff, but I'm not expecting much.

And as Milhouse pointed out above, Keaton was great in Jackie Brown. So not everything he's in turns to poo.

I agree, although I think that more has to do with the quality of the Batman films (call me crazy, but if Val Kilmer had been in the original instead of Batman Forever, I think he would've done a damn fine job...as it was he did okay in that crap-fest).

Wouldn't that be great if Hollywood made a smart horror film that played on real-life stories, theroies and whatnot?

That's my biggest grievance with The Amityville Horror. Instead of doing sequels and retarded remakes of the dumbest hoax on earth, that being the Lutz family scared out of a ridiculous looking Victorian house, nobody has opted to make a frightening thriller based on DeFeo murders (which is what triggered all this nonsense in the first place!).

To be fair, that was the premise of The Amityville Horror II, but it was so removed from reality that I could do nothing but laugh at the movie. And it was a horrible Exorcist ripoff.

With the DeFeo murders, you have an intriguing massacre. So many theories. The guy claimed to hear Satan, although we now know that is probably not the case. Too bad nobody has the balls to make a movie that would film the murders in a way that it could leave it up to the audience to decide if there was some truly evil, Satanic stuff going down or the massacre of a family at the hands of some madman.

Now that I would see.

End rant.

Damn straight, although Christian Bale is probably going to dethrone him.

Too bad about White Noise, the trailer was intriguing. Still gonna see it, though, I'm a sucker for horror movies.

It could be like Darkness, only not fucking terrible.

The premise struck me as kind of hokey and cornballish.....much like the other January-released horror stinker, The Mothman Prophecies.

Is the true life research behind it anything more than listening to scratchy recordings and thinking you hear a voice?

There is some actual science behind EVP, but like most things of this nature, you're more likely to hear about it on the Sci-Fi Channel than NBC Nightly News. You can be skeptical of nearly anything we don't understand in total, though.

Supposedly it is a real phenomenon. It probably has something more to do with radio frequencies/some scientific occurance we don't yet understand than it does ghosts and the afterlife, though.

The website advertised in the trailer -- http://www.aaevp.com -- is pretty informative if your curiousity's piqued.

I'm not sure how well-developed the research behind the theory is, but I have personally heard one of these "voices."

My friends and I do ghost hunts from time to time, visiting graveyards and such and taking pictures, recording "voices," what have you. One night on our way out, my two friends were talking about going to one particular cemetery.

When we got into our car a few minutes later and began listening to the recording, at the very end when we were talking about going to the other cemetery, there is a clear whispering voice saying "Take Me." We went over it many times, and we cannot explain the voice.

A good show about ghost hunting is Ghost Hunters on the Sci-Fi channel. It is fun to watch them investigate certain sites and how they determine if their evidence is sufficient to declare a place haunted. More often than not, they throw away most of the potential evidence, and only rarely are willing to actually say if a place is haunted.

Saw it last night. What a fucking waste of money. Thing is, I actually liked it up to about the last 15 minutes when the director kicks the audience firmly in the nuts with one of the worst endings in a movie ever. Save your money, go rent a bad movie from BB and enjoy it more than this piece of shit. PEACE.

Amazingly, it's doing good numbers.. it'll tank after the first weekend, but it should be one of the biggest openings of his career (which doesnt say a whole lot for such a recognizable actor).

Yeah I saw it and thought it was mediocre....but not offensively bad. I don't really know what the fuck happened at the end, but at that point I didn't entirely care.

Unfortunately, the fact that good marketing can more than compensate for bad reviews isn't really too amazing.

Can someone spoil the movie for me?

Dead people contact him from beyond the grave. But they're doing it before they actually die. So his recently dead wife contacts him through the white noise and gives him these lame clues to save lives before they're taken. But of course, there are bad ghosts communicating too, and they are so bad, they can't be explained in text or in the fucking plot of this movie. All goes well until about the last 15 minutes when the main character dies and nothing is explained. Then they insert some wierd teaser ending like there could possibly be a sequel to this abomination. Then popcorn is hurled at the screen and people walk out angrily. The End.....?
PEACE.

I really liked it up untill the ending. It didnt make any fucking sense. It could have been a good movie fi they had taken more time to explain the ending.

I saw The Life Aquatic instead and liked it.

Sorry, Michael. You're like Will Ferrell -- I want to support you, but you have to give me a reason to other than just being you.

it's as mediocre as a movie can get. the ending stunk and it started dragging halfway through. the plot went all over the place and in the end you walk away saying 'wtf was that?!'
really, save your $$.
