White PSP Battery life shorter?

Dark Fact

Member
Did a search and didn't find a similar subject. So I picked up a white PSP when they came out last month, but something I have noticed is that the battery life is not as long. I am not sure if this is a particular problem with my white PSP, or if the battery is just bad, needless to say I am going to buy the higher cap battery when it comes out. The problem is most noticeable, not when i am playing, but when i turn it off for a couple days, and turn it back on only to find out the battery is dead.

To compare, I have two black PSPs (one Japanese, one American) and both of those don't seem to have this problem.

I am hoping it is not a drain issue with the PSP itself, and just an issue with the battery. I did try swapping batteries with my other PSPs, but the tests were inconclusive.

Has anyone else see this problem with their White PSPs?

The difference in drain is negligible.

I don't think it is. I think it takes a percent an hour or so when it's on standby. If it's turned all the way off, it's a couple percent per day.

This is the first I have heard of this happening and I know a few people with white PSPs. I'd guess that your battery is screwed. Swap it with a black PSP battery and try it again.

You're sure you're turning it off and not just putting it in stand-by?

Yah, the first time i noticed it i thought the same thing, so the next time i made sure to completely shut it off, same result. I will have to just try swapping batteries again, hope that is the case :|

try the battery from your white in your black PSP and vice versa.
I'm more inclined to think it's the battery than the unit.

I've got 6 PSP batteries and they are all variable in their performance.

The pack in one first PSP i had (now sold) seemed to be an UBERBATTERY. 5-6 hours of Ridge with full brightness + sound with no problems.

Some of the replacement batteries last a similar time (4-5 hours) , but one in particular is drained after about 2 hours.

All batteries drain even when not in use, this is especially true of rechargeable ones.

Leave a charged cellphone off for a week or two - then look at the remaining power.

Granted, it shouldn't be a huge, especially per day. That would mean it's probably defective (or there is some sort of short?)

I tested mine today, got it saturday. I don't know if I have a faulty battery or not coz i don't have any other psp to compare, but my result is that it went from 58% when I went to sleep to 53% 12 hours later. I guess that's a drain about 10% for one day. In my psp i have an umd game and a 2gb ms.
