so a person having talent gives their death more meaning?... then let's say that avg dude who never made the news. I guess i simply don't take death personally unless it's someone who I've met and have known.

Well, yes. Because a person having talent means you know who they are and what they do.

Listen, I understand that people think that others get into drugs/alcohol for the "fun of it," but did you ever think maybe that they didn't know any better? Maybe they needed some sort of crutch? Maybe they wanted to quit, but they couldn't?

I've never been addicted to a drug, and I'm guessing neither have any of you. I don't think it's as easy as snapping your fingers and saying "okay, I'm clean." It was probably a demon she had to deal with most of her life, and she probably wanted to quit more than anyone else.

I'm going to make the nostalgia cry right now

I think I've got something in my eye.

RIP.

and btw i was a huge HUGE fan of heath ledger. he died, and i was over it in 5 minutes. the fact of the matter is that people are selfish in nature and this whole grieving process is just a fad.

omg whitney died...tweet n fb about it!! lets share the pain together. i find it ridiculous.

Again, why are you in the thread then? To tell everyone you don't care? So why are you posting?

You're a dumbass.

Right, but add to it by making this about you and making others feel worse for being emotional in the process.

I don't think you understand. On the basis that people have spent their childhoods listening and seeing Whitney they do feel as they know her because in some form they have grown up with her.

Is that really so hard to comprehend? So of course a famous person's death will have more of an impact.

So in short, no one here will care when you die because you're not showing anything that gives meaning to them (apart from terrible trolling which will be forgotten in 5 mins).

Sounds like you're just an insensitive idiot, nothing more nothing less.

please god no. Someone call Anita Baker, Mariah Carey, Stephanie Mills, Natalie Cole and Patti LaBelle.

Please don't let these new chicks anywhere near this other than as part of a backup choir or something. Not mentioning the old school women is almost disrespectful, JCX.

They're on short time, so I went with who I'm guessing will already be there. Not an ideal list of any sort.

Music is a powerful thing. And I'm not just saying that lazily. Anyone who grew up around Houston's hey day may have been positively affected/uplifted from her songs and music. Music CAN affect someone a very personal way.

Oh you're so cool and jaded...

If you don't understand, don't be a jerk. I grew up listening to Whitney. I remember seeing her in Jet magazine as a Jet beauty before she was discovered. Her songs were the soundtracks to lots of people's happy moments, so people make an emotional connection to her ART because it made them feel good. If you're so out of touch that you don't have the same connections, or can't understand that others do, just keep it to yourself.

Yeah it's comedy when people suffer, until they die, then you feel bad. And if you don't, then there's definitely something wrong with you. Lack of human empathy is a problem.

Like this.

i always love reading these threads, just because of how overly dramatic people suddenly get over the deaths as if they've lost a family member. it's more of a social conformity thing... LETS ALL BE SAD TOGETHER.

Hah, look at you, a societal rebel!
I also have no real connection with Houston, but others do. Being a public figure does mean that many feel you're a part of their life. Get sad at whatever you want, but don't ridicule the sadness of others just because you're weakly attempting to be in on some nonconformist bullshit.

Grief is a fad? The fuck? As if people haven't been sharing their experiences for THOUSANDS of years. You're legitimately stupid.

banned for what? lol.

trolling or callousness in threads like this is generally frowned upon.

Anyhow, can we all just start ignoring him and get this thread back on topic?

Was I the only one who thought she could mature into a modern Billie Holiday? Her voice was even getting a bit more raspy, and she'd certainly have the tormented life to draw upon.

From the site FAQ (which you are supposed to read)

Be polite, please
In general when posting in threads, don't be a dick. Be respectful of other fellow members, and learn to argue against the points in a discussion without making it personal or insulting the other party. Present your points well and others will respect your opinion more. Using proper grammar and avoiding typos will also make it easier for others to understand your message.

I just hate how these people don't feel loved while they're alive. But when they die, it just overflows. She had to have been in a lonely dark place, but she would have had a place at my family's dinner table for all eternity. It's just such a shame.
