The freeway sequence (seventeen minute action scene) from Matrix Reloaded invalidates this argument.
Um, it’s kinda the poster boy for OP’s argument.
That movie is practically 90% car chases or their pedestrian equivalent, the animu-style slo-mo fight between edgy clothes and edgier hairstyles.

I have used this thread to cure my insomnia. For that, I thank you NeoGAF.

Here is the only good car chase scene in the entire thread. It has all the necessary fundamentals that are required...

Fundamentals:

1. No cars. Cars are dumb and all city streets look the same.

2. Doesn't overstay its welcome. 60 seconds is nice. Everyone's 7 hour car chase videos are dumb.

3. Outcome is unknown. Tom Cruise has the microchip and he's in a Mercedes getting chased by dumb French authorities who don't know that it's impossible to catch Tom Cruise.....That's dumb.

I apologize if your increased adrenaline levels make it harder for y'all to sleep now.

Matrix Reloaded? Nah, man, disagree.

Intro/security fight *
Neo/Trinity intro
Captain's Meeting
Agents vs. Neo *
Smith intro
Zion return
Sweat rave
Councilor Harman's nighttime musings
Bane/Smith escapes Matrix
Neo vs. Seraph *
Oracle consult
The Burly Brawl *
The Merovingian meeting
The chateau battle *
The freeway scene *
The power outage plan *
The Architect monologue
Trinity rescue
Escape

* marks action sequences. Freeway scene is 17 minutes out of a movie that's two hours and some change, so it's definitely not a MINOR sequence, but this is the first time I've ever seen the amount of action scenes being a complaint in The Matrix: Reloaded. It's easily the slowest film in the series.

Many of the posts in favor of car chases are mentioning movies which rely heavily upon practical effects.
I tend to agree.

Chase scenes are boring nowadays because they're almost entirely fake.
When done properly, they can be exhilarating.
