Who else struggles to get into Monster Hunter?

I have tried so many times but for the life of me can't get there, I hate that because I feel I'm missing out but there's something about 30 40 50 minute boss hunts that just doesn't do it for me but even the progression behind it all to get better at it, man it doesn't grab me.

I know there's so many games to play so it's never like an issue to skip it but I'm one that realizes some games just don't click right off the bat and when they finally do it's awesome. I posted about Cyberpunk recently also and this is in the similar boat, I know good stuff is there most likely but man I can't get there.

I dont really get it either. People always rave about the games so i bought Worlds, and that Switch PC port game when they were dirt cheap. Played 2 or 3 hours on both and just couldnt get into ot. Tedious 30min boss fights that have always been annoying in other games, but here its the whole game.

I was tempted to buy Wilds as the game didnt run terrible on the benchmark, and i know there was supposed to be more story and stuff, but the core gameplay is still the same thing.

I suppose i'm a hypocrtie really as i love Souls games, but the boss fights are more fun in them imo.

I got into Monster Hunter Worlds for one weekend. Put about 30+ hours into the game. Never went back to it after that. Lost all the drive I had to continue playing.

It's not my type of game. Weird character, weird monsters, weird story, just not for me.

The game first truly clicked for 100% with MH4. It's originally supposed to just be bite-sized missions you play on a handheld with a few friends sitting within 5 feet of you. You group up, run around a small map and find the boss and take it down. Then you get back to the base and spam funny emotes and call it day or do it again. It's supposed to be very uncomplicated in that way, and accessible. You get a dopamine hit every 20 min minimum. It's fun to pull off some fun moves in co-op or save a buddy.

Items and gear depth was always there, as well as complex fights but the core game loop is really simple. The open world stuff is nice, but kind of changes it into something else.

Never found it fun. It is too slow, sluggish, annoying. Always preferred Phantasy Star Online for example. You don't have to like all games.
Yea I feel it is slow and sluggish as well. And the thing is, I'm a fan of this type of game in terms of its art direction but the style of game just feels so wonky and slow

You're supposed to feel like a group of cavemen with spears taking on a vastly physically superior being. You have to rely on your tactics and group support to make it. You're not really supposed to be a ninja moving around flawlessy, though a few classes basically do that.

For me it was trying out multiple weapons until I found one which gameplay I'd liked. They all play very different so there's something bound to appeal to you. For me, it was the charge blade.

If you have a friend that like MH try playing with them for a while and have them guide you a bit, maybe that helps.

Capcom is casualizing the fuck outta Monster Hunter to appeal to people like you. If it ain't clicking it's safe to say the games aren't for you.

The older games were better IMO. Back when casuals got filtered during the 1 star quests because they couldn't hit velociprey with the great sword.
I'm a worldbaby. Thought the game was fun but kinda easy. Then I got GU when it came out on Switch and yeah, Great Maccao fucked me up real good.

Still my favorite MH game by far. It looks super pretty, it's challenging and has a fuckton of content with many different areas an almost 100 big monsters.

Got 3 monster hunters (Wii and Switch) and never ever booted one. There's always something I find more appealing and it goes back to the backlog.

I get that but I still find 30 40 50 minute type boss battles to be not so fun, I watched some live sessions on yt and man I was bored stiff during the boss fighting. I like the rest of the questing type stuff tho ultimately

What's the point of this game? Essentially bounty hunting monsters? I assume there isn't really a structured story, missions, etc.
"Hey there is a monster spotted too close to town, go and get rid of it" So you kill it, carve its corpse and use the materials to make better weapons and armor to kill stronger monsters that show up as you progress.

I played Freedom 2 and Unite on PSP, and a little of Tri on the Wii. Wasn't super into it until Worlds, but then again, playing with friends made it more enjoyable.

I’ve given the series a number of attempts. MH on PS2, MHF2 PSP, and MH World. I don’t like the series, I don’t like anything about them at all. I am tempted to give it another try, but I know I simply won’t like it, so I won’t.

MH kinda is like cocaine: you either have a bad time or become addicted for life.

Is this your new format of threads for popular games you don't like?
It’s just about whole this “FOMO” nonsense. It’s okay not like a game that everybody else likes.

People going crazy over BG3 as “greatest game ever made” and I’m sure it is for people who in to it but it’s not for me and I don’t feel like I’m “missing out”.

I've tried several Monster Hunter games and have never been able to get into it. I think it has to do with the onboarding, aesthetic and something about the combat/weapons that just isn't interesting to me. The key mapping on PC is also weird, though that can be customized. The closest I got to "getting it" was Rise, which I played for about five hours and actually enjoyed.

The Wilds playtest was OK. Didn't put much time into it because everything was going to get wiped anyway. I think I might be able to get into it, especially if any of my friends play. I'm considering picking it up.

There’s satisfaction in sharpening your blade, eating to boost your stats, and finding the monster you’re questing to kill. That feeling of crippling a monster while it tries to run off to a safe spot. Or seeing it sleep and waking it up with a charged hit. Cutting off a piece of their hide and crafting armor that reflects their characteristics. It all sounds sick. Lol

I played 2-4 and I didn’t get into it until World. Rise was when I really started to enjoy it. I owned the Circle Pad Pro for the 3DS and my enjoyment for it came way later. I appreciate these QoL updates. I carried eggs in MH2 on PS2 and sold the game. Back then I didn’t have the patience, but I couldn’t see the reward in all the hard work. I had no idea what to craft or how to make better weapons. I’m glad they made things better for the player.

I've burnt out on it. Been playing them since the PSP games. Gonna sit this one out. My enjoyment of them peaked with 3 & 4 Ultimate.

Some people are literally struggling to get into wilds...because it crash on the desktop when they try to play it :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

Jokes apart, i bought mh freedom unite on psp, tried to play it for like 2 hours and returned to the gamestop.

I thought mh just wasn't for me.

Then i tried the world demo and still nothing, i forced myself to try again and something very small clicked.

It didn't really clicked big before 600 hours tbh, and i feel like it continue to click even after 1000 hours the more skilled you get at the game, like when you realize that you are being glued to a monster and instinctively move just enough to avoid his attacks without even rolling away from him, like a dance.
I know how silly it sound for a game to click after 600 hours, it never happened with any other game.

I don't think it would have clicked this much if rise was my first mh game, i think world was just magical in a way that rise and wilds can't replicate.

I played the crap outta the first MH on the PS2 with some friends from high school. It was a fun co-op game, but damn was it a grind. The ranks, the armor, the weapons, and the boss fights. I still have PTSD from the amount of times I killed Diablos in the desert.

I have no interest in ever returning to this franchise lmao, but I'm glad it stood the test of time and is doing well.

I will say this tho I caught the platinum reqs and it doesn't look bad, 70 to 100 hours isn't the worst thing ever and I'm debating on tryin it for the plat at least to give myself a reason to really push thru and see if I can find the love.

However KCD2 is what has my heart right now big time

Couldn't get into it even when my cousin tried to get me into it on Steam years ago by gifting me Monster Hunter World but nothing in the game interest me. Only really liked Resident Evil games from Capcom.

I couldn't even get into cutscenes from any Monster Hunter games. Usually for games that doesn't appeal to me gameplay wise like Metal Gear Rising or Darksiders, I could still watch the cutscenes cause they are interesting but I couldn't even do that for Monster Hunter games as neither the story or gameplay interest me.

I played it day one on PS2. It was also great to play on a portable like the PSP as the missions were short and sweet. MH: World was much more confusing and bloated and so I lost interest in the series. Couldnt get into MH:Rise either. I just dont have the patience anymore to spend hours running around and collecting materials and traversing. Combat hasnt improved much either.

My old time PSO buddy has been trying to get me into MH for years and hyping its similarities to PSO. I even installed World at his behest awhile back. It just never stuck.

That said I think my love affair with PSO is finally fading. You can only kill so many of those sewer sharks in a lifetime man

I have tried multiple times to get into this series. Own Rise on switch and what ever the versions were on wii and wiiu.
For what ever reason the game just doesn't click with me, not sure if it's the gameplay loop or what it is exactly.

Listing the features of the game out on paper and it should be right up my alley....I just don't know.
