Ed Fries works for Sony Online Entertainment now...And Seamus Blackley works some other odd place, that I'm not even sure of...

And Kevin Bachus went to Infinium Labs and the Phantom :lol

Original Group:
1) Seamus Blackley
2) J Allard
3) Ed Fries
4) Kevin Bachus
5) Robbie Bach

Basically, it's just J Allard left from the original heads (and Seamus was never officially one of the heads, even though he is widely considered the major impetus and the "hero" of the "Opening the Xbox" book) ;)

Also, what happened to Robbie Bach?

Robbie Bach is still the Xbox chief, isn't he?

Yeah. I guess so.

Funny. Allard seems to have completely become the face of the Xbox. I know Robbie is responsible for the whole H&E division, but he used to be on the stage right there with those guys, iirc.

Bach runs the entire Home Entertainment Group at MS. That includes Xbox, Microsoft Game Studios, WebTV (i think), and even some apps (i think publisher falls in there). Bach comes out for the really big things, E3 or something. Where Allard is much more involved with developers and the actual system.

I'm pretty sure that Allard reports to Bach, as well as Shane Kim.

I don't think Ed really works for SOE or FireAnt the studio that SOE bought here in Seattle. I think Ed was involved with getting the capital started and on their board of directors. I don't think Ed has a 'position' at FireAnt.

Some of those who started the project (before the big wigs got involved) stayed on the DirectX team. Not sure if they're still there, and they never played a major roll in the Xbox team after the project was greenlit.

All I know is that they showed Ed Fries the fucking door when they decided to try and stop the Xbox division from taking piles of money and setting it on fire.

Don't believe any of that 'mutually amicable' split BS.

Ed Fries had plans to be a lifer at Microsoft. He'd been there for 16 years. You just don't walk away from the kind of salary and stock options he was getting because you want to take a break.

This is what I think the hierarchy is at MS:
Code:
.
                              Bill Gates - Chairman
                                         |
                         Robbie Bach - Senior VP/Home&Entertainment
                                         |
J.Allard Corporate VP/XNA - Peter Moore Corporate VP/Marketing&Publishing - Todd Holmdahl Corporate VP/Hardware
Shane Kim is just manager of MGS so he's not one of the main executives, and probably reports to Peter Moore.

Yeah, that sounds right - I think Kim does report to Moore. And technically, I think Bach reports to Ballmer, not Gates. I may be wrong on that though.

Yeah you might be right, since Ballmer is President and CEO. Gates is the chairman of the board though, and undoubtedly the top guy.

Yeah, Gates did step down from president a while ago. While he might have final say in decisions, he clearly isn't as involved in MS as he used to be.

He's in charge of the technology side. I think he got sick of running the business aspects and wanted to focus on the actual products. He is still very involved in that.
