who made Devil May Cry 3?

after playing through the game three times.. I must say that I am amazed.. Ninja Gaiden got a SERIOUS competitor.. not quite up there overall.. but in some ways it was actually better than gaiden (!)

was it production studio 5 (if they exist anymore?) that made this game?

or was it really the same team that made the second (crappy) game? I find that very hard to believe

It's made by Production Studio 1 which also did the second episode.
It's a really good action game but I don't consider it an AAA title as the first was when it came out.
Also DMC4 for PS3 is made by Production Studio 4.

Original Devil May Cry Credits
Producer- Shinji Mikami
Director- Hideki Kayima
Team- Production Studio 4

I was also watching the cut scenes from an online database from Dante's Awakening the other day, and I noticed I quit DMC3 one mission before the last :lol If I had known that I was that close I would have kept going. In fact, I might finally go back and finish the game on Labor Day :)

The director of Devil May Cry 3 was Hideaki Itsuno, whose past titles for Capcom include Power Stone (co-director/planner), Street Fighter Alpha (co-director/planner), Street Fighter III (again, co-director/planner). Explains Dante's "dragon punch," now, huh? :lol

No, not really. It's just that compared to 1 and 3 it sticks out like a sore thumb, the difficulty is pretty much nothing compared to 3 or even 1. At least it has some nice visuals in regards to animation and some of the areas. The stages aren't as nicely designed as it predessor or successor though. Changed combat system from 1, gunshots can keep a score going because enemies die too quickly, meaning you can kill an enemy but then start walking and shooting to another enemy to keep it up. On it's own I would say it's a pretty good game, but DMC 1/3 are just leagues and leagues better.

Kind of neat that you get to pick who you play as straight from the begining though, but I couldn't see way it was on 2 sperate discs.

Well, I enjoyed 2, though, not as much as the original. I loved the art/character designs, though. Spike will agree. In it, Dante looks way better than he did in the first and way better than his no-shirt/style-having ass in 3. Where 2 severely lacked was in the story department. You'll ask, "What about story?" and I'll reply, "Exactly." But I'll be misinterpreted because I'd really have rather you ask, "What story."

I'm here my children.

Man, people know the DMC3 spiel really well. The posters above got the dev names correct.

Itsuno did direct both DMC3 and DMC2, however it's more complicated than that.

DMC2 wasn't even intended ot be "D.M.C.2" until halfway through development when Capcom started to notice the sales potential of DMC1.

So when DMC1 was about 70 or so percent complete, they changed the original game studio 1 was making into DMC2. That's why there is ZERO reference to anything DMC related.

Also, producers changed halfway through development.

And finally, all the Japanese complained that DMC1 was too hard, so they made DMC2 weaksauce. WHich totally blows the whole point of a "stylish hard action" game.

The switch made was that Resident Evil 5 was taken away from Studio 4, and given to Studio 2--which has made the Onimusha games under producer and director Jun Takeuchi. While DMC4 was given to Hiroyuki Kobayashi (DMC1, RE2, RE3, RECV, REmake, RE0, Killer 7, RE4)

To like DMC3 is to think outside of the box. There is no combo list in DMC3, because you make your own combos and chains, you are --literally-- restricted only by your imagination.

Spokkx (--3 times...wow!) you told me you gave this beast a rental, you must have been playing overtime.

EDIT: Since we're on the subject matter, updated DMC3 swordmaster combo and Dante Must Die tactic videos. CLICKLY HERE! and some new boss tactic videos here

The two links I gave above go to the same website.

DMC3 has a really open ended combat system, so videos from different users worldwide dump their combo clips and tactics to that website. Now, some have their own website so it's not the "end all see all" of all DMC3 footage.

In anycase, the owner of the website uploaded all the cutscenes (Yuji Shimomura-Versus goodness) for downloading.

www.thehandvseye.com

Go there, should be easy to navigate. But you know, if are planning to play the game, keep in mind DMC3 actually has a good story, so the cutscenes aren't all just bullet time this and wirework that so _there_are spoilers.

yeah I actually REALLY enjoyed the story (as well as the gameplay of course) in dmc3.. way better that the two first dmc.. the cutscenes were really cool and for the first time I actually thought Dante was a good main character.. in the first game he was kind of silent. as well as in the second

and dmc2 was not really a dmc game in the beginning? guess this explains why dmc2 dont feels like a dmc-game.. though the animation and control is really nice.. the difficulity, story and level design is really awful in the second game

overall part 3 is actually my favorite ps2 game now

DMC2 in itself is not a bad game (that probably says more about the competition than the game itself though), but as a sequal the game -sucked-

It did have responsive controls, varied attacks, and even --still--, there are some pretty damn amazing DMC2 combo vids out there. The problem is, there is no point in doing the combos in DMC2 because the game is so easy.

That's why, I don't -understand- when people say games like DMC are NG are too hard. What's the point of having all those damn moves and abilities if the game is one big damn mash-fest?

In anycase, as a fan of DMC1 --DMC2 sucked beyond belief and the only redeeming quality about it was that you could unlock Trish. Which, by and large--was only interesting becuase she had the same combo system of Dante from DMC1. And she was using the Sparda :D
