Why are people begging for the lazy, ugly Zelda HD remasters? (Comparisons inside)

I'm guessing this is why Nintendo hasn't released them since. Nintendo probably sees the issues. Seems with the switch remasters the general idea is to leave games in tact for better or for worse.

Nothing much was done with metroid prime besides the control changes and graphics. Not sure paper mario has any real changes.
Super mario RPG etc.

I prefer it that way. Better off leaving the core game as it is. If you want to add additional save points and quality of life.. fine but no changing the feel of the game of language and wording.

The QoL features added to TWW HD (plus having the menu on the GamePad's screen) make me easily handwave away any issues I could have with the graphics (which are still gorgeous).

The changes to TP HD were minimal, hardly something to lose sleep over.

OOT on 3DS has gyro aiming and a better framerate. Hard to go back to the unmodded N64 version, especially on modern screens.

MM is the only Zelda remaster where some changes were pretty much unquestionably worse than what was in the original. Then again, you got a better save system (for modern players), gyro aiming, and free camera.

The WWHD remaster is far superior to the original. 1080p, enhanced textures, redone UI, completely redone & orchestrated soundtrack using a full orchestra instead of gross MIDI. It's an amazing game, imho. Dunno what you talking about. Those screen comparisons of Link solidify my stand that the Wii U version is better, not the opposite.

Agree to disagree, I guess. WWHD all the way. But I'll still replay it on GameCube Classics with the NSO GCN controller.

🤷‍♂️

Agreed completely. Every Zelda remake/remaster has been superior to the original except for the MM 3DS remake. I do agree that one went way, way too far.

With nothing but scorn for the original games, which is what you can see under every Nintendo post about the upcoming WW port right now. I remember us pretty much unanimously agreeing that Nintendo's Wii U bloom is disgusting and compromises the art style

Ofc there are a few nice additions like the faster sail (tho any emu lets you speed up the game if you really need to) and you can buy and enjoy WWHD, but if you love the original you shouldn't be happy with such half-assed remasters let alone beg for them with no appreciation for the originals that hardly even aged
I honestly never understood the praise for WW HD. The original GC version is absolutely perfect in its artstyle and graphics and I always thought the remake ruined the wonderful cartoon look.

Just like Ninja Gaiden 2(BC), Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, and Ninja Gaiden Black 2, simultaneously existing on the Xbox store right now, gamers prefer more choices rather than forced choices.

Are you ok with Nintendo conditioning people to only accept 1 choice?
You do realize the 64 originals are available on Nintendo's subscription, right?and nintendo has the original, gameboy advance and snes versions of multiple games on the service?

I'm fine with the remasters even with the changes, even with changes I don't like (MM boss eyeballs for example) both versions exist and can be played.

You're never going to make everyone happy with remasters and remakes.

I won't speak for anybody else but I'm begging because they're done. They just have to publish them almost. If we have to wait for remakes or deeper remasters, it's gonna take longer..

Plus better/more useful maps, one additional item slot for usage, better/more useful Bomber's note book, forwarding time with the song can be set by the exact hour, you can set an alarm with your fairy, rumors are tracked and noted in the note book, faster dialogues and more consistent skipping of dialogues, also without accidentally choosing a dialogue option because the skip button don't select a dialogue answer any more, due to the dual screen it's easier to play songs because the notes appear simultaneously while playing, slower Zora swimming makes it easier to navigate in tight spaces.

Some tedious cutscenes like the Deku guys flying away and leaving you the deeds are tremendously shortened. Since you probably trade a lot of deeds during the course of the game's side quests you'll see them leaving very often and in the N64 version the cutscenes are unskippable and continue until these guys are well out of sight.

Some visuals details apart from the obvious graphics improvements: Link turns his head towards points of interest, enemies, etc. When doing the Deku spin thorns growing at the end of his hood, which explains why you do damage at all, when doing the spin. HUD is more tidy, cleaned up and reveal more of the screen.

Compared to maybe one or two not so popular changes (one of which can be mitigated by using Chateau Romani for unlimited mana until the next three day cycle), this is such an improved version over the original one.

Yes, my question was towards a Nintendo defender, not Nintendo themselves.

To rephrase it as simple as possible, I'm asking why he would want Nintendo to deny anyone from choice.

I'd rather play games instead of care about minor derails, but to each their own. I don't even have any possibility to connect a PS2 to my OLED, and even if I'd buy a HDMI adapter, GTA4 on PS3 is barely playable on a 77" OLED, PS2 sure ain't any better.

They all look great. Having a preference is fine but pretending like the WiiU version is some unmitigated eye sore is ridiculous. You don't love the original that much more, you love being that much younger.

There are few issues but overall the HD versions are great and look better. Especially TP HD, I would never play the original game anymore. It's just MUCH better.

I would agree for TWW that the new lighting is not really "better", just... Different.

yeah I'm with you on this one -- I just looked back at a pdf of the original n64 instruction booklet, and the remastered faces for link (both child and adult) are very faithful to the concept art. The 3DS port is solid, maybe a few minor missteps here and there but an excellent way to enjoy it that feels like it completes the intentions of the original game.
