Why can't computers just freakin WORK?

Allrighty.. A question for all you hardware buffs out there.

Radeon 9600PRO
P4 Intel 3.0 Hyperthreaded
ASUS P4P800Deluxe MoBo
(Brand new) 500 Watt Power supply
1gig of ram.

For a long while I had the problem where my computer would reset itself when I was doing heavy application work or playing games. No error messages, just... *blink* and it reset.

I had thought it was overheating at first, but it would reset at only 40-43 degrees.

I recently found out that the Radeon 9600 needs at least a 400watt PS and I only had a 350, so I went out and bought the Dual fan 500 watt PS.

This has stopped my computer from resetting.

However, now it's doing Memory dumps instead! OH FREAKIN JOY!!!!!

What am I doing wrong? This should all work fine, it's a clean install with all new drivers and updated bios/chipset........

Anyone got any Idea's? I'm so frustrated I could scream.

How many beeps does the motherboard make when it's booting up. That can give you some indicators as to what the specific problem is. Also, how is the RAM on your computer split up, what brand is it and what clock speed(s) is(are) it running at.

Its gotta be your memory.

Download Memtest86 (google it) and test your memory overnight. Only test ONE memory module at a time (meaning, physically remove one), otherwise results are likely to be incorrect! If you get errors, it's the memory.

Also what's the speed of your memory? If it's PC3200 speeds drop it to PC2700 (166MHz/333MHz) speeds instead. It will probably fix your problem.

Oh: BTW, if this means anything. the Memtest keeps stalling after like 3-5 minutes and not progressing any further on BOTH sticks of ram (seperately) ........ aFjsfkasklfalsd!???

What does that mean...

Got this just now, playing Unreal 2004

OK: So I went and took my ram back to the store I got it from, and Bought a 256MB stick to tide me over till he checked them out. I bring it back here, plug it in and run memtest.

It hangs after about 3-5 minutes.....

Does this mean my motherboard needs replacing? or the graphics card ? Anyone got any idea ? .. :( (This is Samsung 256 PC3200/DDR400)

The others are 512MB Infineon PC3200/DDR400

Sounds like the motherboard to me, try testing another graphics card to be sure, but I'm 90% that'd be a motherboard issue.

Try a CMOS reset if you haven't already

If computers worked properly, half of the threads on GAF would disappear. :D

Tru Dat. Ok, like I said i've got a p4p800 deluxe Mobo.. I can't find anything that looks like a battery on it. I haven't reset cmos in like .... 6 years or something. little help ? :)
