Why didn't anyone ever tell me black mold is fatal?

My roof always leaks when it rains. Am I dead?

I'm not an NPC. And neither are we.
You do you realize that continual water damage could cause the ceiling to cave in, right dumbass? Like you will be taking a shower and your neighbor's tub comes crashing down on you.

No. You are fine. Get some bleach and clean it. The mold is not fatal nor is it "toxic". If you lick the mold you might get sick; don't lick it, clean it. Get your landlord to fix the leak though.
You cannot "clean" mold from wood, plaster, or drywall.

Well then I wouldn't be able to work. And then it would be a real problem.

Eh, it's serious but it won't kill you. I actually just recently had a mold problem in my apartment, luckily my landlords aren't as assholes like yours and fixed the problem within 3 days, they had to pull out the wall paneling and redo the insulation and such though, had to stay somewhere else for a few days. Bleach will kill the mold, and unless you've noticed any symptoms you'll be fine. We only noticed the mold because my girlfriend was having swelling under her eye due to an allergic reaction. You need to get your landlords to fix the leak, or you need to move out.
Also, don't bring anyone home from Tinder while this is going on, they might have a mold allergy. Don't subject them to that.

Call your landlord and get them to fix the leak and clean the mould.

Your dad called you a dumbass?

Considering that OP knew that there was a problem with the leak and did nothing about it out of sheer laziness, his dad was right to call him that as OP was irresponsible and was putting his health in danger.

Living alone also means that you need to be a responsible adult.

I make sure newbies are already liquored up before bringing them home the first time, bro. Spore colonies isn't exactly the most attractive look. Although you now bring up a good point. With that shit patched up I can now save a few bucks on bar tabs. A light buzz should suffice from here on out.

I discovered black mold behind a movie rack that I had in my living room of an apartment I'd been living in for a few years. When I discovered it, it was along the wall of the outside where the sprinklers they think caused it.

At the time my health was okay but shortly after they moved me to another apartment to have it fixed, and then moved back in, I suddenly got pneumonia in both lungs and my doctor said I had to get to the hospital asap. This was around the time when swine flu was really rampant here in the US and they had me in a quarantined room within the hospital, all my visitors had to wear masks when coming in.

I was pumped full of every antibiotic you could think of, bowel movements was always a scary pasty green color. After being there 5 days I finally got better and was released. It only cost me (and my insurance company) roughly $85k for the visit.

In my weakened state, I simply told my landlord, along with a note from my doctor, that I needed to break my lease asap and move. I questioned the idea of seeking a lawyer but I just wanted the fuck out. Looking back I should have sued the shit out of them but I'd been in touch with their legal people for the past couple months and they convinced me I had no case - yeah I was very naive.

Long story short, do not dismiss the presence of mold. EVER.

Your dad is right, you're a dumbass.

How incredibly lazy do you have to be to notice the glaring issue and do fuck all about it!?

How are you even alive!?

Everything you've posted in this thread is not exactly the most attractive look, tbh.

I have mould that looks black on my wall caused by condensation/humidity. The guy who my Landlord wants to fix it has been really busy so hasn't had a chance to get here, but it's been 2 months and I haven't had any issues. Hopefully I should be ok o_O

Lol, they all noticed your moldy-ass bathroom dude.

Lots of types of mold are black, some of them are dangerous. Most of them are not. Needs looking at but not worth getting hysterical.

It's really weird that the OP has decent story telling abilities, because in all his threads he comes across as someone with the IQ of a peanut.

Have you ever stopped and considered that maybe it's time to start making better decisions for yourself?

Please do not let me serve on a jury. I am actually a crazy person.
How is it warranted? I too had no idea that black mold was deadly. Is it really common knowledge?

I mean, your adult kid risks his life, you call him a dumbass. Seems very appropriate.

Mold spores are in all of our homes. It's nothing to worry about. Just keep moisture issues at bay and you won't have growth like the dumbass had.

Unless you are immunocompromised or a diabetic, most fungi that would be found in a home shouldn't be fatal (according to what they teach us in med school). CDC seems to confirm this as well and wikipedia suggests unless you live in the tropics where aflatoxins are a problem.

What the fuck is wrong with you dude? You left the water damage and mold for years? I don't even know if black mold is lethal, but that's just disgusting and irresponsible as hell.

As far as your landlord is concerned, it was fixed after the one time you reported it. You did not alert them of the continuing damage, for literal YEARS. And then you wonder if you can get some free rent out of it? Are you for real dude?

Back when I was in a college apartment my lease legally required me to report black mold. You better hope this doesn't come back to you, but if it does then you did this to yourself. And if you suffer health consequences then you did that to yourself too.

LOL "the IQ of a peanut"

That got me good for some reason.

I didn't even know Docpan was still here...

... Or should I say 'Deadpan'?

I'll show myself out.

To be honest I'd be less concerned about the mould and more concerned about the structural integrity of the floor above your bathroom, water damage is insidious and if it's been going on for years...

As a person whose been in hospital with pretty bad pneumonia and full on collapsed lungs from it, don't take any chances and clean it up, get some mould killer until you can get it sorted properly!

I like how you write. Interesting read and good op. That is my review.

Good luck the mold thing

Seconded, it was a pleasurable read. OP, don't suddenly become a hypochondriac. Mold doesn't instantly show up one day and kill you. It's been there and you apparently didn't suffer from chronic health issues. With that said, try to find a less crappy apartment that still shields you from street noise.

How old are you OP? Just wondering how long you've been out on your own. You don't leave a fucking leaky ceiling with mold to rot for years. Like, what goes through your head to think "oh, let me just wait until the leaking is done before I shower"
