I was really expecting a price drop.

I traded my last system in over a year ago and I figured I'd wait to get a modded system (I have a few Japanese PS2 games) when the price dropped this year. Well, what happened? There was no price drop at E3.

Was I the only one expecting a price drop?

I'm sure people were hoping for a price drop, but PS2/PSTwo continues to completely dominate console sales right now. Don't expect a price drop until Xbox 360 is released.

Supply finally caught up with demand around these parts, but people are still buyin' 'em. No point to price drop.

That, and at this point the PS2 (and PSTwo) hardware, according to reports, is finally - in itself - profitable. A couple of extra months of that can significantly improve your fiscal year.

For the same reason the PS3 reveal wasn't known until the last moment.

Sony is a master of Fridayton-Kata, like Equilibrium. They'll drop the price when it will inflict the most pain. I'm guessing around this Christmas. $99 PS2 + awesome 2005 software line-up = Wallguy standing in the dust asking, "WTF?!"

They will wait until the 360 launch is announced and drop the price of the PSTwo in the same time frame. It's called good business. Why drop price at this time? Wait until you actually have some competition first.

Back on topic, no price drop until the Christmas season.

most likely they'll price drop around 360 launch. But only to take a little bit of the wind out of MS sails, and to remind Mr. EB where his bonus cheque comes from.

It won't materially affect the number of 360s sold, as the market is different.
