Why do people hate Cam Newton?

I'm not offended by his idiocy. I just don't like it. I do love his game though and I love how he involves the kids in the crowd when he can. He needs to stop celebrating like a dope when his team is getting destroyed. But then again, it's always fun when a player does that and then a player on the other team owns them by pointing to the scoreboard.

I get that people don't like it, I'm not saying you have to, that's not my argument. I'm saying he is who he is. He's not a frontrunner. The way he acted at the end of the game is how he's always acted. I just don't see it as a knock on the guys character. He's a guy who gets super excited when things go well, and super bummed when they don't and shows it. Both sides of that emotion come from the same place. I don't think any of his actions were meant to disrespect the other team or show poor sportsmanship.

He's the guy tea bagging you after every quick scope he gets on you, talking shit in the game lobby as his team wins 5 straight matches against you. Then in match #6 you hit him with a dose of his own medicine, slapping your teabag on his chin as your team goes up by 20 kills, then he rage quits before the match ends.

Who likes that guy?

Funny the QB who actually teabagged someone was Peyton Manning.

Yeah because Peyton Manning being a gigantic asshole was football's best kept secret until someone unearthed a 6 year old Fox News article this morning.
Not really sure what youre trying to say.

Im just saying ive never heard of any of those things until now besides the HGH rumor.

.

And he isn't Russ "not black enough" Wilson.

The Florida laptop thing and his dad allegedly being paid are other reasons. He's kept his nose clean since going pro however.

Anything he has done as a "student athlete" I can understand. The NCAA treats players like shit, but that is a different discussion.

and also almost literally rage quit during Super Bowl 44.

I'll never understand where the narrative of classy Peyton came from. I think that may be what bothers me about him most of all. Everything about him is completely fake and constructed from this narrative to make him the ultimate good guy when his history is actually filled with classless moments that are almost entirely ignored.

might come off as a salty Panthers fan(even though I'm a Giants fan)

but I got to shake my head at all this hate he getting after the lost, half them were all on the "Dab train" and now that he lost now it's "A little dab wil undo you! amirite!?!?

I'd say that his postgame interview was unprofessional but still resonable; everybody handles losses differently; Josh Norman is gonna have to live with the footage of him breaking down crying. Cam Newton is not the only person to ever walk off or cut an interview short after losing a big game; no one wants to sit for 30min-1hr hearing "can you tells us why you lost"

people are using this lost as an excuse to justify their dislike for Cam, for 17 weeks they had to grit their teeth as the Panthers steamrolled over everybody(except the Falcons on week 15?) and now all that hate can flow out because he lost in the SUPERBOWL. Cam was doing Celebrations long before this season and it hardly got recognized and have pretty selective memory as people forget after he does a touchdown celebration he gives the football to a kid and the stands.

the only reasonable hate for Cam is if your a Saints, Bucs, or Falcon fan, or hate anything Auburn, other than that you're a hypocite or something worse

So this is getting posted all over twitter right now.

Manning outright walking away before the game was over and not getting the type of hate Newton is now but even having the report or sympathize with him.

Coincidence?

People let the narratives drive their perceptions. The narrative tells us that Peyton is just an awe shucks classy guy so nobody is looking to pick apart everything he does after a loss.

Guess nobody remembers the "we had protection problems" shitstorm.

It's too bad they don't make bandaids for feelings

LSU graduate and New Orleans native. You got me on two of those.

Who's bright Idea was it to have opposing teams with hearing distance from each other, I guess only a curtain separating them.

It's not a sign of bad sportsmanship? Oh OK then.

Not a poor sport just was about how much he wanted to win. Unlike Newton who left a presser that was set up right next to the winning teams presser and he had to listen to all the reporters take cheap shots at him.
Where are all the reports lambasting Cam Newton? Pretty much all of the ones on the first page of Google search just discuss it matter of factly. I didn't see any major news outlet story call him out for bad sportsmanship.

personally speaking: my dislike of cam has absolutely nothing to do with his celebrating; i actually enjoyed watching him prior to this season. it has everything to do with him being an asshole to fans of other teams and pulling materials away from them in the stands (he has done this several times)

can I get some examples?

It's a factor with some, sure. But for many (dare I say most) people, it's his behavior.

If it was race alone, Russel Wilson would be getting the same heat. But he doesn't. Not even close. Because he's gracious in both victory and defeat. He sets a positive example and shows how a true leader should act.
How much of a factor do you think race played to the way people responded to Richard Sherman?

i honestly don't remember what the national/general media response was to sherm when he went off on that reporter .. i live in seattle and we were all pretty positive on the situation

He's a thug..

Leagues like the NFL thrive on fans hating other teams, hating players from other teams, etc. The games build rivalry and hard feelings, reasonable or not.

Everything I've seen of Cam, I dislike. In fact the only player that I can think of that I dislike more is Tom Brady. Cam really, really did himself a disservice yesterday.

It's because he's a Black Panther. Just look at the response Beyonce got. He's obviously anti-police and certain folk just can't have that.

Did Cam do that or are you simply making absurd exaggerations to make a point? Because I don't think one has a point if one must use exaggerations to make it.

it's obviously hyperbole, but fine: pretend peyton ripped the poster down, crumpled it up, and stomped on it instead

Cam took a serious gut check yesterday. Instead of having a slice of humble pie, he was force-fed the whole damn pie by that brutal Broncos D.

The silver lining of this whole experience is that Cam will come back next season more focused and hungrier than ever. He will not quit until he wins the Super Bowl.

Cam lost. Von Miller (a better player than Cam) deservedly got MVP. I don't like Cam's bitch ass because I'm a Gator fan.

On November 21, 2008, Newton was arrested on felony charges of burglary, larceny, and obstruction of justice on an accusation that he stole a laptop computer from another University of Florida student. He was subsequently suspended from the team.[14] Campus police "tracked the stolen laptop to the athlete...Newton tossed the computer out his dorm window in a humorously ill-advised attempt to hide it from cops."[15] All charges against Newton were dropped after he completed a court-approved pre-trial diversion program. "I believe that a person should not be thought of as a bad person because of some senseless mistake that they made," said Newton in 2010. "I think every person should have a second chance. If they blow that second chance, so be it for them."[16] Newton announced his intention to transfer from Florida three days before the Gators' national championship win over Oklahoma. In November 2010, Thayer Evans of Fox Sports reported that Newton faced potential expulsion from the University of Florida for three instances of academic dishonesty, prior to transferring.[17][18]

got to be better than that post game.

If you want to rub peoples faces in it, then expect heat when you react like a petulant 2 yo. You can bet any money you like most of the players in the NFL have little regard for his post game behaviour. I expect there are Falcons players revelling in his bitterness. He clowned them. taking photos on the sideline, etc etc.

also part of the $20M you get from Carolina is being the face of the franchise. be that.
