Why do people play Blackjack when they have no idea to play?

Why do people like to flush money down the toilet, and screw others at the table in the process? There's no excuse, you can even buy the little basic strategy card or ask the veterans at a table. You're not Superman, you can't beat this game with "hunches" and "gut instinct". Every wrong move you make increases the houses odds, in the long-run. This is proven with computer simulations.

Next time you're on 3rd base and think about hitting a 13 with the dealer showing a 5, or want to split 10's, at least go to a website like www.blackjackinfo.com beforehand

Fuzzy

I would bang a hot farmer!
Because they figure that a game that doesn't require them to count higher than 21 can't be all that hard to win at. :)

Let me guess, you JUST finished reading the website, and now you're here to tell us how l337 you are at blackjack, and how people have no idea how to play.

Haha, I think he means fun in regards the table reactions when that person does split the 10s or hit 13 versus 5. My friend used to do crazy stuff like that all the time at blackjack, and I used to get a kick out of the table reactions when he did do that. Nothing frustrated people more than a bad blackjack player, especially when they are winning and the table is losing.

Screw others at the table in the process? Sorry, but you fit into the first category if you think that's the case.

Yes, what somebody else does doesn't really affect you, but you do tend to notice when there's a newbie at 3rd base, and they mess up the flow of the cards.

The flow of cards mean nothing. To think that someone is hurting your game because of their play is as stupidly superstitious as hitting because they "feel" a certain card is coming out.

That throwing stick stunt of yours has boomeranged on us.

I make more when I play with people who know what they are doing. You can't tell me you don't feel more comfortable playing with experienced people

Same. But sometimes it doesn't even matter and the dealer just rapes everyone at the table.

Gah, there was a thread about exactly this a year ago. The conclusion was that people who bitch at fellow black jack table players for screwing them over are pricks. You don't gamble to make money. The house always wins in the long run. If it weren't like that, there would be no casinos. If you're going to bitch at others who are having fun gambling, ironically you're detracting from their experience in the same hypocritical way you're accusing them of.

I just save before every hand, then reload if I lose.

...

...well, the only time I play Blackjack is when I need money in Leisure Suit Larry.

It makes absolutely NO DIFFERENCE.

Yeah, it makes no difference but you get a cool vibe playing with people that know how to play.
Cubsfan was implying that he was more likely to win when he played with experienced players: "I make more when I play with people who know what they are doing." That implication is false.

As a general statement, basic strategy does NOT in any way depend on the actions of other players. It also does not affect card counting in any significant way. Anecdotally, he may have had more success on the few occasions where the table was relatively full of competent players. In the long run, it makes absolutely no difference.

Unless you have MIT-level card counting skills, Blackjack isn't a game to play if you like your money.

Might I suggest a Poker night with your friends? At least the money will go home with a person...

There's no skill beyond simply minimizing your losses in Blackjack... (i.e. playing by some simple rules of thumb, such as when to ask for more and when to stop)

even the edge you can get from card counting is nullified by the amount of decks they use nowadays.

In the end, you'll lose money regardless...

OTOH, Poker can be a real game of skill... but for the most part it's largely luck too... the skill in poker is in percieving human reaction... but on any given hand, luck and guts play a larger role.

Oh god another one of those I am a l33t blackjack player and you peons are holding me back posts.... I'm glad I didn't run in to any people like you while I was playing blackjack in Vegas last weekend.

And actually luck DOES play a large role in it, certain times when you say yeah I'll give it a shot... following the strategy card will have you doing ok, but sometimes you have to go for it and take a hit in situations when the card might say stand... I've done it and reaped the rewards.

Closer to half a year, but hey.

Blackjack, like all card games, is a game of chance and not skill, so it doesn't fucking matter whether your opponent is skilled or not as long as you're luckier than he is. Plus like someone said the casino is always at an advantage anyway so it doesn't matter who you're playing with

I went to Vegas about a week and half ago, and the dealer was winning so much it wasn't even funny and people at the table I was with were playing like strategy suggests. So in the end I agree that it doesn't matter because the casino are going to get their money.

I'm starting to prefer craps over blackjack more and more when it comes to casino gambling.
