Why do people shit on chris pratt?

Speaking as someone who is very liberal, and I don't mean to drag politics into this and am not trying to start some kind of conversation about it, but I've noticed that many of my fellow liberals dislike him because he's kind of a "golly gee whatever" Christian (very happy about and unapologetic about his faith), and divorced his wife.

Personally I don't give a shit about what any actor or other entertainer does in their private life outside of gruesome acts, so I don't care. But it's pretty obvious why so many people dislike him on social media these days. It's sad but true IMO.
Agree wit this 100%. I like Pratt quite a bit, regardless of what he personally believes. Hell, does anyone even really know for sure his positions, other than speculating? Who gives a shit. He did suck in the latest Jurassic World, but that has more to do with the trash script than his ability.

A great example of how I look at this stuff is Tim Allen. I fucking love Tim Allen, even though I may think he has some pretty dumb opinions on things. But to write someone off completely just because they think different than you is beyond asinine (obviously excluding insane extremists and violence, etc).

The church he belongs to is homophobic as fuck… but he appears to be a pretty solid dude. Not the greatest actor in the world, and part of the great Disney machine, but he seems pretty harmless to me. And his co stars all live him, so no issues with the chap myself.
This is both my understanding of the situation, and my take on it. I can't fault people for getting mad because the church preaches hate against their very existence. I hate many hateful organizations myself. Chris choosing to continue association with an organization that is at the very least of questionable moral stature is a career decision I trust he put a lot of thought into. He says they helped him a lot, but I don't know. I ain't gonna brush off someone associating with a church that has racist messaging, so I'm not one to pass judgement.

He seems like a good dude, but Ted Bundy probably seemed like a good dude. The carpet doesn't always match the drapes, and he probably hasn't done enough (if anything) to distance himself from the wild shit his church says. I've been to some wild-ass churches. You know when your church is wrong. You make a conscious choice to keep going back. 🤷‍♂️

Rest

All these years later I still chuckle at what a fucking moron that guy is.
Forgot about this. He also posted a shitty tweet afterwards. Not sure how to take this but comes off super shady knowing your other child was born with a disability

This is exactly it. I'm not down with his church but he's never said anything controversial in my opinion.

Our sister site banned me cause I said that him flashing Amy Poehler and Rashida Jones during a scene in parks and rec wasn't sexual assault.

Dude is member of some weird cult like Christian sect called Hillsong Church. Definitely up there with Tom Cruise and Scientology, difference being that Cruise still makes good movies. Chris featured in some real stinkers recently, like Jurassic World and Tomorrow War. Much like Trom Cruise, he is charismatic, but something is definitely off about him.

Case in point:

That post reeks of fake and cringe, it's not even funny. The "healthy child" comment isn't even the bad part about it.

Idgaf what he does in his personal life, but he sucks as an actor in serious roles. He needs to stick to stuff with a comedic aspect like GotG.

I don't get this "he's white and conservative" angle in numerous posts. Isn't that most of Hollywood in reality? What Hollywood are you dudes watching?

I remember when the backlash to this happened, and I remember thinking "this is proof that people who live on social media are mentally ill".

Is it a poor choice of words? Maybe. But I highly doubt he intentionally insulted his son on fucking Instagram.

I give a shit about his personal life or beliefs, he has charisma on screen and that's the only thing that matters to me about an actor.

I don't have any issues with him as a person but he seems like the typical B tier action movie star.
You have guys like Schwarzenegger or Cruise who get famous with a good movies and then proceed to make a bunch of other good movies through their career (with some duds on the way).
And then you have guys like Chris Pratt, that dude from Avatar or Gerard Butler who get really famous after starring in 1-2 big hits, get cast in a ton of stuff afterwards and then slowly fade away as they release dud after dud.

The only reasons Pratt gets more hate than the others are identity politics and his refusal to bend over backwards to please the woke twitter crowd.

What big popular Hollywood star is openly conservative? Specially considering the newer(ish) generation? (let's say under 50 years old)?
Hell Chris Pratt hasn't even said or really done anything and he already gets a lot of hate. The only 2 options in Hollywood right now are to be outspokenly liberal or being more reserved and trying to avoid politics.

Never understood the hate either. I just remember the savages on REE being upset that he was cast as Mario and their hatred carried over into various YouTube channels I watch who almost always piggyback on whatever the consensus is there. It's obnoxious.

But they are far better than any crazy leftist who hates him. So i'll take his side in this battle.

I personally hate both sides with a passion and I personally wouldn't mind if he was christian, or even conservative, but I feel the "Pray the gay away" part is what sold me on his hate. I'm far from an "SJW" make no mistake, but I think it's pretty hypocritical for a religion that's all about loving people equally to just say that people who just love other people are bad for no real reason.

Οh i know very well how bonkers christians can be. When someone is OK with someone else suffering in hell forever, for some trivial sin, you know there's something wrong in the way they view the world.

But these days i think they are harmless. The others though, they are fucking up our society big time.

Jealous, miserable people hate those who are successful with a positive message. Pratt is funny, uplifting, and above all else a normal person, which is rare in Pedowood.

I personally think the new Jurassic Park movies are universally garbage, but that's on the writers. As long as Seth Rogan isn't allowed to insert his weedbro bullshit into the script I think the new Mario movie will be entertaining.
I'd like to think he is, but let's not jump the gun here. In Hollywood, everyone can appear normal until they're not. Kevin Spacey and Bill Cosby seem like cool people until they were not. Will Smith seemed well adjusted until he was not. We don't really know jack shit about what really goes on with these people, and that includes Pratt.
He made very bad movies lately: Jurassic World, Tomorrow War.

But yeah, he's not that bad. Ryan Reynolds is worse imho, he's wasting his career in the last few years. The last movies he did, his characters have the same attitude.
People love a memorable persona. There are a special class of actors who can really excel as any character on the spectrum, but some of the biggest movie icons of the past were almost exactly the same in every role. Reynolds just discovered he didn't need to stretch his acting muscles and make bank for being Deadpool in every movie, the same way Clint Eastwood was never more than endless variations of The Man with No Name.

Definetely, it's just a matter of who has the power right now. Stuff like "Political Correctness" or "Cancel Culture" aren't anything new, and existed for centuries. It's just that now it panders to different standards.

he's a succesful white, christian guy who is not an outspoken leftist. twitter/resetera hate him because they know he's not a leftist but he's too smart to tip his hand and talk about his politics. kinda like colin moriarty. moriarty is banned on resetera and persona non grata in the san fran gaming journo cabal for no reason at all other than not being a leftist.

Regarding his church - perhaps preachers in that church expressed homophobic beliefs. That doesn't mean Pratt agrees with those opinions. I've seen public people attacked before over what someone at their church said.

Also, in general, it's going to be difficult to find Evangelical and Pentecostal churches that openly allow homosexuals in leadership positions. So you know, if Pratt is to be condemned for being associated with a church with such practices, then there are dozens of millions of other people across the globe guilty of the same.
