Why does Zack Snyder Keep getting work?

This is not a typical BvS thread. yeah yeah i get BvS is a mess and it's garbage compared to marvel movies according to people. I can't comment as I haven't seen it yet. But IMO the last good movie he did was more than a decade ago (Dawn of the dead remake). He is a bad writer imo. Loves to spam bad CGI and slow motion crap. Watchmen, Sucker Punch, Man of steel, 300 etc.... Does his movies even make money? I don't count MoS or BvS cause Uwe Boll can direct those movies and it will still make money just from the characters alone. Perhaps from 300 his career took off? Maybe he still has the same quality in him when he made dawn of the dead but studios force him to spam slow motion and CGI combined with garbage dialogue....Would you consider him a one hit wonder like M Night Shyamalan? you know what scratch that M Nights movies before lady in the water were atleast ok. Sixth sense was obviously his best work, unbreakable i thought was really good and signs was ok.

Anyway if mods think this is another BvS thread which I don't think it is feel free to close it.

He makes entertaining films. I enjoyed Dawn of the Dead, 300, Watchmen, Man of Steel and BvS. Even that Owl flick was interesting. Watchmen is his best film to date, in my opinion. He's NOT the best film-maker by any means. He's a great visual director, but he's not a strong storyteller. However, he's made Hollywood money, and I totally get why he's still in the biz.

Because the Watchmen and 300 were popular, I guess.
After the man of steel he should've been kicked out of the series instead of giving him the most important title WB has produced

People keep paying to see his movies for some reason.

And I do think he's a one hit wonder, Dawn was his best film, 300 was alright and the rest were mostly shit.

Because he portrays himself as a 'comic book guy' even though he seems to barely understand them beyond the visuals. WB know jack shit, but to a layman it would look like Snyder knows what to do, even when he doesn't, so he gets hired.

The biggest flop you mentioned (Sucker Punch) made back its money. All others did decently and I've no doubt BVS will also make back it's money and more.

MoS did middling at the BO, Watchmen outright under performed. Sucker Punch was a straight up flop, as was that Owl shit.

MoS did fine, and he has two hits in 300 and DotD under his belt. That buys you a lot of slack in Hollywood. Look at M. Night or the Wachowskis. Also unless I'm mistaken there haven't been any stories of him being difficult to work with, or going over budget or anything like that so I'm sure that counts for something with studios as well.

Pretty much a more artistic Michael Bay. For better or worse.

BUT he's got chops! He has a look and feel that's all his own. It's just he's never NAILED it. You know?

He's confident.

Jesus. Has Zack Snyder fucked your moms or something?

The amount of personal hate this guy gets here is unwarranted.

He makes movies that are:

- on budget
- on time
- makes the money back

WB is pretty cool with you if you do that time and time again. Same studios gave the matrix siblings two more chances to make movies for time with speed racer and jupiter

I think this is getting vindictive. If some one finds work in this field let them. Seems pretty petty at this point. Look I do not want him working on Justice League too but to cry why someone finds work seems low to me.. I dont know.. would you say that to his face and be comfortable or happy with what you said?

M.Night is a storyteller tho. I know, I know, but visually the man knows how to tell a story. He's lost his way BIG TIME! But The Visit is a nice little start back.

probably easy to work with, reliable in terms of production & budget demands, is experienced in crafting the visual effects driven setpieces that drive the blockbuster market

and makes money.

when you put 300 million into a film you want the closest thing to a safe investment

Do you know how many directors get consistent work that you don't even know the names of? Snyder is an A-lister as far as directors go, whether you like his movies or not. As far as I'm aware, his films have all been profitable except for maybe Sucker Punch.

For what it's worth, I don't care much for Snyder, but it's obvious why he gets work.

Same reason Michael Bay keeps getting work, but I think these Hollywood folk mistake the bankability of the franchises they helm for the bankability of the directors.

But at least Bay has had Bad Boys 2, The Rock and Pain & Gain as good movies

Is this true? Outside of 300, I don't think his movies have done too well at the BO. My guess is he has excellent connections like most successful people in any entertainment driven industry.
Well his wife is a senior producer of all his films so there's that

It's also pretty uncomfortable when someone writes off his work as only doing well because of name recognition. If Man of Steel wasn't your thing, ok, but that movie made money proving it was a lot of people's thing.

The most shocking thing I have heard is Nolan actually recommended him to WB.

Duncan Jones, Jonathan Liebesman, Matt Reeves, and Tony Scott were in the running along with Snyder -- but Nolan selected him because he was the more the reliable one (in that particular situation) for a movie on the scale of Man of Steel.

He seems to be one of the few Hollywood directors who is stupid enough to believe that these movies are better because you make the *perfect* <insert superhero> along with as many video game fight scenes as possible.

Dude Zack Snyder films have all relatively been pretty great.

Dawn of the Dead
300
Watchmen: Director's Cut

Have all been great.

Sucker Punch was inspired

and The Man of Steel was probably his weakest work.

I haven't seen BvS yet.
