Why, effectively, I am a democrat

I am not a member of the Democratic Party. I consider myself a moderate, with preferences for fiscal responsibility, some social programs (but not like what we have now), free markets, and inclusive social policy. I am strongly opposed to the war in Iraq. I believe the downsizing of the military in the 90's was a very good thing.

The US has two political parties. The Republicans are conservative. The Democrats, since Clinton, have been moderates. This upsets me. I never wanted to be a Democrat. There are things about the party that sicken me. Unfortunately, as the country has become increasingly conservative, the Dems have moved toward the middle.

The problem? I'm a moderate because I have some conservative views, and some liberal views. The conservative views are well-represented, the liberal ones are not. If they were, the pushing of social engineering by the Right would not have so much traction. If they were, the supposedly liberal members of congress would have voted against the Defense of Marriage Act (don't even get me started on the title of that bill).

So I find myslef voting Democratic even though their stance on some things is ridiculous, and ironically find myself without any serious choice for a vote on some issues because the Dems are not liberal.

Anyone else find themselves in this same bind?

I'm a Libertarian.

Leave me the fuck alone and I don't give a shit what you do. However, you stop me from achieving my rights under US law, then, brother, you're going down.

Do you find it disturbing that the Democrats have effectively bailed on the part of their platform that supported privacy rights and civil liberties?

In certain areas, we don't even have a lesser of two evils to choose from anymore.

Yeah, pretty much. The libertarians are NEVER going to get anywhere though, unless they can start winning lots of local elections and work their way into the house/senate from there. The debate system is rigged too heavily, and the two party system is entrenched in most peoples' minds. They need to start working bottom-up instead of top down, which I think is starting to happen.

Don't think there's enough choice? Run yourself! Find ways to get people excited about the process and show them that the D/R parties don't stand for what they really want.

Honestly, I think the libs would take tons of votes from both sides if people knew more about them.

That said, I'm voting Kerry unless it looks like a landslide here in Ohio for Bush. Then, I'm all about Badnarik.

I'm a registered Libertarian, but I will be voting for GWBush in 04. Had I been able to vote four years ago (I was a year shy of 18), I would've voted for Harry Browne.

Mostly immigration has driven me away from the Libertarian Party (The open borders concept doesn't make any sense to me any more)...

Dems are far removed from how I want government to treat me... I've come to think of most of them as just plain douchebags... I hate the 'blame America for everything', Michael Moore, type of attitude that the party endorses...

GOP for me, socially and economically...

Because the democratic party has become soulless. Its hard to see what they stand for anymore because the leaders of the democratic party are all weak and spineless and unwilling to take a strong stand against something that people may not like. The definition of a democrat is fairly ambiguous these days.

I don't mean to alarm you but you have dogs on your face
I don't even know who I really want to vote for, but for me, sadly, this election is one that transcends issues and is all about voting out one of the most corrupt and evil presidential administrations ever.
