Why gamers complain about their games being taken away |OT| Censorship Controversy Central

US and Japan Reject United Nations Proposal to Ban Various Forms of Anime, Manga, and Games - NicheGamer

US rebuttal: "Visual depictions of a non-real child are protected under the 1st Amendment."

Japan rebuttal: "If you take out the phrases, 'audio representations' and 'written materials in print or online', and add in 'as far as it represents an existing child', then your (the UN's) proposal may make some sense."

Austria rebuttal: "The definition of child pornography involves real children or realistic images of children."

I went through the UN proposal in my closed politics thread on lolis. There's a lot more issues with it than just defending fictional children. One of the things it does it try to take away consent from anyone under the age of 18 and basically criminalized teenage sexuality - which I'm extremely against (my best sexy times were as a teenager, and I think teenagers should be treated as adults-in-training rather than children).

So, I think there's other stuff in this optional proposal that makes it pretty bad, and while I'm thrilled that some countries have some god damn sense, I think they'll end up making minor changes to the proposal (leaving in all the vague and easily abused notions and wording) and the US will adopt it wholesale. It's a massive overreach that will do more harm to children than it will save.

Still, the US loves its first amendment, Japan loves its lolis, and I don't know what's going on with Austria, but go them too.

The Expression is no more pedobait than The Last of Us is.
Uh huh.

And? If that is considered Pedobait, then so does Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, and 90% of anime and japanese video games. It is a scene of two people bathing - not anything that risque. If these two were doing something inherently sexual in nature - then I would see your point. However, I have seen more sexual things from western horror films and western television.

Whole lot of whataboutism here. Doesn't change the fact that the content is clearly sexualizing minors and just outright disturbing. Valve is more than justified in keeping it off their platform.

My guess is that some galaxy brain at valve saw that it was associated with MangaGamer and blocked it without checking its contents. There is simply no other logical explanation...

But who am I kidding? Life is Strange 2 with naked minors who fuck around gets a pass, educational anime game is evil incarnate. You really can't make this shit up. I hope they'll get the decision reviewed by someone less trigger happy.

Had no idea Steam released Koikatsu Party!
It also supports the already existing mods, including Character Studio.
Had played the game a lot prior to this, but if it supports the mods I'll buy it.

Notice that this is a game changer regarding user made adult content in a mainstream game platform. Character maker allows users to create female characters of any age and size, while character studio allows to create any settings and countless animation and sex scenes with many persons.
There are hundreds of fan made cards with Anime characters

Hopefully they'll leave the game alone and it will not attract any attention

Disaster Report 4 - a game about a natural disaster that got cancelled originally on the PS3 because its timing was too close to a real-life tsunami cataclysm, despite outcry from actual survivors who complained it robbed people valuable advice about prepping for disasters.
The game would only be released several years later, missing quite a lot of content (some of it "upsetting interpersonal drama"), on a different platform by a different publisher.

Apparently, this isn't quite enough.

Nintendo has reaffirmed their anti-censorship stance, in their latest shareholders Q&A.

In the 79th Shareholders Meeting Q&A, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa was asked (via NStyles) how Nintendo approaches content regulation in regards to games being released on their platforms, citing other platforms applying their own censorship or restrictions on game content.

“Nintendo seeks an objective rating from a third party before releasing its own products, or third party software,” Furukawa said. “Arbitrary choices made by platform management companies will significantly inhibit the diversity and fairness of game software.”

Furukawa also noted what most folks agree is the common-sense solution to shielding younglings from adult content. “You can also put restrictions on content via parental control functions,” he added.

The latest example of Nintendo’s blasé approach to adult content on their platforms is probably Peach Ball Senran Kagura (pictured above), a breast-filled pinball game from Marvelous that is launching for the platform entirely uncensored, on July 9th.

Blizzard loves those sweet Chinese bucks, so here's some more changes shoved down everyone's throat to appease their government.

Their excuse was that it wasn't because of China but because they wanted a more "cohesive artstyle". Of course, that excuse fails when you look at eviscerate. That card only had a few pixels of blood removed. Not only that but those god-awful penny arcade artworks are still in the game.

Crystar PS4 version has been censored. The devs posted an article on their website.

We would like to inform the community about a content change made to this release. In the PlayStation®4 version of the title, the pre-title-screen cinematic has had approximately 0.5 seconds of footage depicting Rei’s naked buttocks removed. This change does not affect gameplay and no other content has been modified.

These content changes will not be applied to the Steam®(PC) version.

The 0.5 seconds is quite specific. Methinks Spike Chunsoft is also taking a jab at Sony’s ridiculousness.

More from Spike Chunsoft, the forthcoming release of Conception PLUS will also be censored. Of note, the announcement doesn't specify the changes are limited to the PS4 version, something to keep in mind for those potentially interested in the Steam release.

Text related to the alterations:
During the Classmating rituals, the Star Maidens’ 3D models will appear as blue and purple (rather than flesh-colored) and will not have detailed facial features. The animation itself is identical.

huh, this looks interesting. And it even has a VR mode :messenger_savoring:

I'm thinking AI: The Somnium Files is next.
The game's producer-director gave the following response to a question from NoisyPixel.net, regarding potential regional differences: "This is a worldwide release, the version that is coming out is the version that everyone will get. The game will launch with dual-audio, Japanese and English."

Admittedly, with the game also hitting Switch and the PC, there's wiggle room in the above response for the PS4 version to be both altered and globally identical. We shall see.

2D arcade fighting game Million Arthur Arcana Blood had two things edited in the PS4 and Steam version.
Square-Enix seems to be the culprit this time.

They altered two sprite assists
A modder restored one sprite assist. It was an animation originally showing a loli character punching the opponent's crotch. The other assist seems to show the character's bottocks originally. Having the original arcade rip would probably help to restore those files on the PC version. Not possible in the PS4 version.

The localization team has an "internal culture view committee"... :pie_thinking:

I'm afraid of what will become of Persona 5 R's wokealization localization.
What Atlus USA needs is a internal culture view committee for all the asinine localization bullshit they're trying to pull on games they haven't even created themselves.

I came across this video from TL;DR where he rebuts Dan Olsen's 'Thermian Argument' video. How is this relevant to this thread, you may ask? Well, Dan's description and logic behind the 'Thermian Argument' concept is pretty much a word salad version of "I don't like this element in this fictional work because it offends my sensibilities". And considering how Dan is also extremely anti-GamerGate, this is likely his way to get creators to remove fanservice in favor of his feelings.

I also made a more in-depth thread about TL;DR's video if you think the video is too long to watch.

B-but people told me that was due to more people having a switch in japan and not the censorship!!
