Why hasn't any artist been able to match Mariah's "All I Want For Christmas Is You"?

Ariana Grande is trying. Santa Tell Me is up there but to answer your question in terms of sales, I really don't know.
This will remain a round the year

If you enjoy Christmas music, you probably don't work retail.
I will say that this song isn't nearly as annoying as most of the others.

Know practically nothing of her, couldn't tell you if I've ever heard a song from her. It's just not played in Europe that I've ever heard, nor heard anyone mention her around her either on the radio. The only Christmas music I like is from Frank Sinatra.

Yes, this. ^ We have a winner folks.

Get a room you two

Not sure how this is possible tbh.

it's easy I don't listen to the radio

There's been thousands of shit songs released since then, many artists have not only managed to match but surpass Mariah's shittyness.

Why hasn't there been a new addition to the Christmas classics rotation since 1994? I dunno. I don't think anyone really tries that much. A lot easier to do covers, and I feel like the whole idea of doing Christmas albums kind of went out of style along with....people buying albums. Anyone doing this now is aiming it squarely at old people, which is not how you create a new hit.

Christmas Eve/Sarajevo was released in 1996, and is in rotation on pretty much every station that plays Christmas music. Though I guess it is a cover.

In the U.K. we've had The Darkness' Christmas Time (Don't Let The Bells End) come out nearly a decade after Mariah Carey, reach the exact same chart position (No. 2) and is now one of the staple songs on Christmas-music-TV-channels and albums, the same as Mariah.

Also, it's bloody October.

The Darkness's "Christmas Time" is better since.

And of course there's plenty better before it. For example Bing Crosby's "White Christmas", The Pogues "Fairytale of New York", Wizzard's "I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday", and of course the GOAT, Slade's "Merry Christmas Everybody"

I'm not even a Mariah fan but AIWFCIY is the best Christmas song of all time.

I unironically and unashamedly love Christmas songs, and this thread is making me want to listen to them. It's too early, damn it!

No one matches Mariah's artistry, that's why. Her two christmas albums have been perfect and I await the third.

Confused for the people who claim they've never heard it before.

Costs time/money to make a song. Christmas albums are a way everyone can put in minimal effort and make lots of money. Thats why everyone does a christmas album.
