Why is it considered offensive to discuss weight?

This is just a symptom of our broken consumption culture. People are trying to cope. Self-control is not enough.

The food and drink we consume from childhood. And alcohol, weed, and cigarettes. We grow up on substances that control us. It's all evil. That's why you end up with absurd discussions like this.

I'm an overweight dude, I wouldn't be upset or offended if the doctor told me I need to lose weight.
The Doctor is giving you sound advice with your best interests at mind.

If she wants the child, I think it is a lifestyle change she should consider without taking offence.

The doctor isn't saying it to upset or offend.

Read the article. She wasn't offended by the advice to lose weight.

I just went to off what OP said that she was devastated 🤔

I assumed being offended would be part of the devastation (I have a terrible habit of reading posts and then commenting)

I assumed the important context is in the post XD

Sorry, my bad 😔

To be fair the article is more about the lack of support given to her regarding loosing weight than about her being told to loose weight.
Then again she also makes it sound like figuring out how to loose weight on your own is rocket science. From my experience 9/10 times people saying "loosing weight isn't as simple as eating right and working out" somehow never manage to stick with "eating right and working out" for more than 2 weeks before giving up.

Why can't people take responsibility of their own lives for once?
Because it is easier for these pampered adult-babies to blame others for their own failures in life.
Also when you get told that you are special every day by other weak minded fools, eventually you will start believing it.

If someone is being offensive, there's a reason.

And for fat people, that reason is that being fat or obese is a hinderance upon the group. I have no sympathy as the answer is simply to fucking eat less.

There are medical conditions that are hard to control, if not impossible. I'm sorry, but being fat is not one of them.

Because it makes fat people hungry.

No, but seriously, a scientific study at Stanford in 2012, polling and including thousands of students between the ages of 18-30, and the study came to one unequivocal conclusion. Because it makes fat people hungry.

Isiah 5:33-42: And unto the Romans did he say that to speaketh on one's weight when in the presence of a being of stately circumference shall, indeed, drive that same man to gluttony

Seriously, it's actually probably because it makes fat people hungry

In today's society everyone is looking for 'hacks' and 'quick wins'. There is no such thing. Every single task requires nothing more than long-term consistency.
I would have thought that in the age of video games people would be wanting to level-up their own lives.

Noticed a trend where people say ‘a game is too tough’? That’s your real-life equivalent.
Also people might want to level up, they just don’t want to put much effort into doing so.

I run, my brother runs. I go out each time I have a workout scheduled no matter the temperature, he doesn’t.
I play piano, 2x30 minutes per day on the dot. r/learnpiano is filled with people asking ‘how do I get good fast’ or ‘I just want to play a few tunes, nothing serious’.

People are strange.

I swear to God English women are one of the most unappealing and badly dressed women on this planet.

You should try living here, it's truly depressing. They slob around in leggings most of the time with their fat bellies spilling over the top. That's if they even bother getting dressed in the morning. Increasingly they just go out in slippers and dressing gowns.

I remember coming back from France once on the ferry. It was filled with French women who were all dressed and behaved elegantly. As soon as we got off the boat the contrast was shocking. Loads of fat, gobby slags dressed like cheap hookers. Of course, if you ever point any of this out they will be mortally offended and start hollering abuse at you.

Ok, so I looked into this article a bit and it doesn't seem it is as black and white:

I had an ex who had endometriosis and she ended up going under the knife for 4-5 hours while they were patiently cutting everything out. She also had an endometriosis cyst on one of her ovaries, so obviously not top news when it comes to getting pregnant.

However then the lady goes into the usual spin:

So the solution here seems to be to stop living in denial that "weight issues are multifactorial" (99% of cases they are not), and tackle endometriosis first, then see if it leads to weight loss. They even asked some charity girl and even faced with info she also got the shit wrong:

How will all that help with endometriosis?

Best part - this is one of the article linked below:
[/URL]

Endometriosis has no impact on the metabolic rate or ability to burn fat. But yes it's a painful condition.

Nevertheless, the answer really is as simple as eating less and moving more. That is the honest truth. Most people vastly underestimate their daily calorie intake. As a society we have also become increasingly sedentary.

I force myself to do 10-20 squats and 30 pushups every 2 hours in the office. Most people sit down 12 hours a day.

Pcos (Polycystic ovary syndrome) can cause weight gain and mess with your hormones. Pcos and endometriosis are similar reproductive complications that present different issues.

And everyone saying you can't change your height in this thread is a liar! You just need a couple hundred grand and the ability to be wheelchair bound for a year. Doctors just break your leg bones apart every week so you get taller.

Not that hard guys

Your thread title and extreme example presented in your OP don't really coincide.

(Over) Eating is a very known and disappointingly so coping mechanism which can start at a very early age. Seeing that people that are overweight get teased, bullied and worse it's not rocket science to say hey, maybe don't discuss being overweight around some thay are (hypothetical situation but it gets my point across)

Example in OP should be about unaware idiots and not the offensiveness of weight.

Wait. Wait. Seriously?

No one told you that one secret trick boner doctors don't want you to know?!? Big Boner has had a stranglehold on the medical industry for too long.

Just crank your member 90 degrees and then reset it. You can do this up to twice a week. Danny D approved.

There's also a big distinction to be made between those that seek solace in food and feel ashamed about it and those that just don't care (or even think its nornal).

There is a difference between being bullied or teased, vs a doctor giving advice. No doctor is telling people to lose weight or exercise to laugh at a patient.

Of course it had to be BBC, I swear to God English women are one of the most unappealing and badly dressed women on this planet.

I was watching cringe X Factor UK audition compilations yesterday cause I couldn’t sleep, and I saw more morbidly obese women there than I think I’ve ever seen.

What are you on about? Can't makes sense of your post sorry.
People getting mad that a medical person is giving advice losing weight. They arent doing it to make fun of someone. They are doing it to help someone out. So why would someone feel bullied or bad getting told this?

My assumption from the article was that this lady was upset ie "bullied". From her visit. Perhaps I read it wrong.

My initial post was just talking in general about the thread title and the OP.

Considering the OP is an idiot for phrasing it the way they did (Fat Bird, really?) the issue at hand is equally stupid.
You get told, in a somewhat brusk way, that you need to lose weight - Yet this revelation leaves you devastated enough to become news.

I understand social media has made it hip to be offended by well, anything really - But if your entire being is in ruins because you get told to lose a few pounds, then there are other issues at bay.

We do care, we just aren't allowed to get emotional about it.
Equally horseshit, there is no need to hang on the victim cloak. The issue at bay isn't being emotional, the issue at bay is hysteria and attention.

Getting emotional over your weight is perfectly normal. Feeling devastated (Which is such a heavy-hitting, no pun intended, word) instead tells me you have deeper issues than just your weight.

One can surely feel devastated by being overweight. Although it's the side effects (by lack of a better term) that causes said feeling of utter devastation. I've been there. A couple times.

Eating so as to get morbidly obese can have many reasons. Mostly multiple at the same time causing the abnormal relation with food.

In many but surely not most if all cases the root issue has to be found. Which in itself is a damn hard job. When the root cause is found only then there's chance for long (life) changing in regards to his/her relation with food.

A pragmatic doctor's advice could mildy help on the short term.

But you aren't getting devastated because a medic tells you to lose weight. If that already devastates you, then you need different help first.

I almost felt like this doesn't need explanation, but here we are. Thanks for your post though.

Well said.

Well. Where do youngins learn the most? Their household ie parents? Schools? All these institutions of knowledge are very interpersonal and with our current government FDA approved poison we buy it isn't easy for our kids (and adults) to maintain a long term consistency regarding their nutritional intake.

The funny thing is in modern day, someone needing to improve themselves should have it easier than ever. It doesn't matter if it's diet tips and calorie counting apps, or wanting to know how to fix a lawnmower.

Just google the answer. You could get enough tips in 10 minutes of searching good links. The old days was who the fuck knows.... I guess you had to just know someone who knew the answer, hired someone or you go to the library and find the answers in a book.

PCOS primarily causes difficulty in weight loss due to an imbalance is appetite suppression. People with PCOS seem to eat more calories overall compared to those without. However the insulin resistance is likely problematic but this is an easy fix - if you have PCOS, you should go on a high protein, low carb diet. This is the answer.

Because losing weight isn't as easy as thinner people make it sound. If it was an easy thing to do, the world wouldn't be having a crisis with it. There's obviously some things about modern society that make it easier to become fat, and things to help with weight loss are not as easy to do. People didn't just decide one day, "man, I hope I'm fatter when I'm older". Some fundamental shit had to happen to get us to where we are today. Yes, self determination is a factor in it all, but there are system-wide problems that need to be addressed as well. You don't lose weight in a vacuum. Just as income isn't solely decided by an individual, so to is weight. And just name calling fat people obviously doesn't fucking help. so maybe cut the shit out. There are ways to help people without being a pompous ass about it.

It can be if the fat person listens to good advice. Problem is most wont. I'm not talking about people with some medical condition. I'm just talking about your typical beer gut guy who doesn't really care.

For example, everyone here has a bunch of buddies and we all go to pub or ball game. Eat burgers, drink beer etc... There is nothing healthy about it.

But some people are content having a meal and that's it. But there's always some fatties who drink more or order a second plate of food. If the rest of guys say "hey bud cut back a bit" and the guy says forget it because he's ordering what he feels like ordering, then what?
