Why is my PC running so slow?

Super anti spyware shouldn't take 7 hours to run. Try booting in safe mode with networking and see if it slows down.

Usually chipset and sata controller drivers. Windows will install generic drivers and you need to go to your mortherboard (or in this case laptop manufacturer) website and download drivers from them. They might not have winodws 10 drivers and only have windows 7 or windows 8/8.1 but those will still work on 10 (or should).

A clean install is very rarely necessary. Just that it can save a lot of time.

A clean install will help you, however if you keep downloading shit and installing crapware you are going to be back to the same spot in no time.

Also clean out your case, see if anything is blocking airflow or preventing it from cooling.


If you want to try one last thing before a clean install, try combo fix. But it has the potential to fuck up your system, so it's a last resort before a clean install. (not sure if it works in windows 10)
 
Has anyone tried Advanced System Care and Driver Booster? They seem to be doing God's work so to speak but at the same time, I have a hard time trusting such software.
 
I had an issue where mine would bog down and after an update to Classic Shell it's been fine. Could have just been coincidence but it's definitely been better since. Windows 8 btw.

Lol. Apple can't even handle closed garden OSes. Lookup "kernel_task cpu". I've had to boot into a special mode at work and disable osx features so the os for hardware designed by the same company wouldn't use 100% of the cpu. This is after Apple forked off Linux and made it horrible.
 
I just noticed something. My Logitech USB adapter used relatively high ram when my PC was acting like shit like 120mb but relatively low when not, something like 10mb
 
I am presently re running malware bytes and task manager says:

CPU: 10% roughly
Memory 2/8 GB
Disc E/D/F: 0%
Disc C: 3-46%

This is with only malware bytes running

I can't tell if this post is serious or not tbh lol. I've been running off the same Windows 7 installation for 6 years now without any noticeable slowdown (in fact it's gotten FASTER because I can actually upgrade the parts). The Mac I bought in 2009 barely made it 4 years before it's slowness, multiple broken ports & a CD drive, and a basically defunct battery made me decide I wasted $2,000 on trendy garbage. Shortly after I put together the beginnings of my current machine for less than $600 bucks.

The only problem with Windows is the person using it. If you're not an idiot (no offense OP), it will last as long as your parts are mechanically able. Just don't run random executable files and run a virus scan every now and again and it's fine.

But yeah OP, sounds like that's an infested hellhole. Backup your data and start with a fresh install and stop looking at so many anime tiddies.
 
46% is high, especially if it's an ssd. If you have that much malware pegging random disk io your general experience is going to be slower.
 
I am thinking of formatting the hard drive because the Windows thing which allows you to refresh your PC without deleting files says some files are missing. What I wanna know is, if I make a copy of my SSD files to an old HD, will this just keep the potential software problem on the copy or wil it fix it completely?
 
I created a backup but when I went to remove everything and reinstall Windows nothing happened it said files are missing
 
I think I further shit the bed. Windows wouldn't let me format my hard drive like everyone recommended. so naturally I put in my to Linux USB and formatted that way. I restarted and I went to automatic repair. That failed

Went to refresh my PC. It said the "the drive where Windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive and try again "

I go to system image backup and the format and reparation disks part is greyed out.
It says: if you are unable to select and option above, installing the drivers for the disks you are retiring to might solve the problem

Do you have a pre built PC, or did someone put Windows on it for you? If the first, the key might be in the BIOS, so you don't need to get a new one if you lost the one you had.

You can create a bootable drive from another Windows PC and just install it from there. No need to buy anything. Just make one on a USB stick and it should work.

I bought a key from reddit back when GAF was endorsing them, then i changed my mobo and it was deeemd a pirate key or something, I formatted my harddrive and well I can't reinstall the PC image.
 
My friend tried to put the CD image to disc and it failed whenever he tried to rip it to USB. Should I bite the bullet and just buy a windows recovery disc? Also putting my CD Rom drive is partly too cumbersome/ I am possibly too stupid to find the related slot on my motherboard. I can see it on my old 10 year old mobo but I can't see the slot on my new mobo.

Try again with the USB option, or get a new USB thumb drive.
Then activate windows after the whole thing works by buying a key afterwards?

First priority right now is getting your files back. You will have to use the hardware that your PC had at the time you did the system image backup (can't use the old mobo).
Use someone else's PC to create a system repair disk, CD or USB. Get it to work, and restore your image.
Next time back up your files by manually copying and pasting. Your PC absolutely needs to be wiped clean, and you need to get a proper Windows 10 key if you don't have one yet.

I am going to get it from a friend, tomorrow (hopefully). I already formatted my HD. Ubuntu is a bit sluggish so I am not sure if this is indicative of the problem when using windows.
