Why No Nintendo Collectable Figurines?

I've seen absolutely amazing figurines for RE4, DQVIII, Viewtiful Joe, MGS3, etc...
but I have yet to see any high quality figurines for Nitendo characters.

I would love to see Nintendo and McFarlane team up to put out some 12 inch Metroid Prime figurines or some insanely detailed Wind Waker figurines.

Twilight Rockstar- Pull some strings and make it happen. You know this figurine would look great on your bookshelf at home.

While cute, it hardly counts.
None of the japenese Pikmin, Zelda, or Mario stuff looks anyhing like the games do. I want accuracy. I want a scene from Pikmin 2 sitting on my shelf.

Hey, I tried. I actually have a buttload more Zelda series ones, but none as cool as that. I should snap pics some time.

I have this from Mario Party, but again, it doesn't fit the way the characters look in the game

And the background stage figures are a perfect way to represent a 2D game like Mario.

couldn't you just buy a care bear or a gi joe figure for the same effect

:lol

Anyway, the only video game figurines I have are...

An old Link figurine on a platform (it has since been taken off of said platform)
Donkey Kong Jr. climbing up two vines
Mario parachuter
Fire Flower Mario without the Fire Flower that comes with it
Bobble head Mario
Mario climbing a vine
McDonalds Goomba
McDonalds Raccoon Mario (I thought it was a pencil cap thing, until I looked up the toys)

I have these Pikmin 2 ones and collected some junk that is also in the game. :] Gotta buy more of them.

There are different collections (random content, also secret ones not shown below like Olimar's rocket...)

Try Play-Asia or so...

From my overseas trip thread - yeah, I know, not exactly figurines, but just thought I'd post on the topic of Nintendo memorabilia:

"But what I found coolest, and I'm sure this is old news to many here, but I'm excited nevertheless, is the crazy capsule machines everywhere around (you know, like the ones Ryo bought in Shenmue). Now Nintendo merchandise in NZ is VERY rare, so finding several series of Nintendo themed capsules was really interesting.

One was the "Gameboy History" - it had every GameBoy in miniature form - Original, pocket, light, color, advance and SP. Each had it's own cartridge that slot in the machine, and accessories. I only got one, but it was the classic, so I was happy - it came with what you see there - a battery pack (with cables that could plug in), fourplayer adaptor (which, incidentally, I have in real life, but never ever used), and a tiny Super Marioland cart (and I mean tiny):

Ok, this stuff has been around a while, but here's a neat pic I took of a display at a store:

You'll probably recognise the pepsi bottle caps and dioramas, but there is also a complete series of mini famicon, and SNES stuff. There was also another cabinet but my pic was blurry.
Lastly, something I saw (but didn't get a pic of) was some really neat computer stereo speakers - there were two styles, either a pow-block or a question mark block. I should've bought 'em!
edit: found a pic

Actually, I don't know why I'm posting this - I'm just easily excitable, plus I only had two hours sleep on the plane."

On topic, I actually have a cool ganon figure that came with his horse - it was part of a series of 2 or three, but Ganon was the only one that looked cool. Pretty close to his game counterpart, and pretty well done. Sorry no pics of that though.

Wasn't that part of Gamepro's line of figures from a few years back? I remember seeing Super Monkey Ball and Cel Damage figures from that same line.

Thats excellent and what I have in mind. I don't know why there aren't these for Metroid Prime, SMS
There are, but they don't look nearly as good. There's a crummy Samus figure and a Mario with FLUDD figure.
SamusActionFigureSet.gif

There are also several Mario Kart toys out there, and a Mario Sunshine collection of those little capsule toys.

But I agree there needs to be more quality Nintendo toys. Those retro magnet dioramas need to come out in America.

Edit: Actually, the SMS figure isn't nearly as bad as I remember it being:

Edit 2: OMG I want one of these:

The part of your brain that makes you collect action figures is the same part that will make you collect newspapers when you are homeless.

Holy hell, these deserve a new post. Are these more along the lines you were thinking, Oli? Get 'em from LikSang. Never seen 'em before.

You are right, most of them look pants.

Re: Edit 2: OMG, me too!

Those last mario ones are great, but I'd still love to see some game-specific ones.
I really would want to see McFarlane work on a faithful Metroid Prime Samus.

Reguarding the second Samus figure: I have no idea where to get it. I did a GIS for "Samus Figure" while looking for the shitty Nintendo Power one, and found that amid the results.

:( That's one I'd actually buy...

Tee hee!

Looking through Lik-Sang's Nintendo toy section, they are really taking the "retro" look and running with it. Keychains, computer mice, magnets, banks, dioramas, dioramas with sound effects, bottle caps, the works. I wish I wish I WISH they would bring them over here.

MUST GET

Oh yeah I'm sure his toys would be totally faithful.

The figure would probably be Samus getting gang fucked by 3 metroids and Ripley.

My brother has a mini keychain Nintendo DS and mini Nintendo DS cartridge. If anyone wants to see i'll post a pic later.

Where can I get one of those? :(

To quote myself:
all right lik-sang has them
when will they be in stock again? is "temp out of stock" equivalent to "not available anymore ever"?? nooo =(

There are some Nintendo figures/displays that are pretty good, but nothing recent that I've seen. When I was in Japan last month I found some cheap Mario series figures for 100 yen at the Family Mart near where I was staying, and picked one up on impulse. They aren't of a high quality by any means (just a plastic molded statue with no moving parts, and about the size of a tiny, SD Gundam figure), but they make nice little display pieces to keep around the computer, if you're into that sort of thing. What I don't like about them, though, is that you don't know what you're getting until you open the package, sort of like buying a pack of baseball cards.

I saw figures for other games too that were of a slightly higher quality, but again I wouldn't know what I was getting until I bought the thing and opened the box. It's a shame too, because they had some neat figures from Suikoden, Dragon Quest, Dynasty Warriors, and Dead or Alive. I just like to know what I'm getting before I plunk down cash for it. I really don't want to wind up with one of the crumby ones that I have no interest in.

I was in Hong Kong this past Christmas and picked up a few toys
Sorry for these horrible hasty photos

I picked up a set of mini console systems throughout history (mainly nintendo). As you can see there is also one mario diorama. I tried looking for more but they are sold out everywhere man.

Here's my Duckhunt business card holder thing, my gashapon frog, doraemon figure, and hard to find Link keychain.

These are Nintendo Classic Figure with Sound. Pretty cool.

I picked up a voice-activated Mario phone a couple of years ago. It also makes suggestions of who you should call. "Why don'ta you call-a your mama?"

Here are a few I have:

And while I'm here, my signed Cold Fear poster:

I've found that the Nintendo characters are probably some of the hardest to find decent figurines for though. Oh, and Joyride do offer quite a good range of video-game figurines that are worth checking out.

I have these 3 on my desk at work...

marioso3050406.jpg

I bought them on eBay. They were only a couple of bucks when I won the auction, but the set can go for as high as $25 in some auctions.

EDIT:

These aren't figurines, but they are pretty cool as far as collectibles go. Again, I had a little help from eBay to collect them all.
