Why the hate for Phil Spencer?

Phil is the face of a Corportation that has unlimited resources, unlimited potential, and yet they can do nothing right. In the wake of the spectacular failures people lose their jobs. Indie developers with probably $20 dollars in the bank account could at least have a better idea of how to run the company. LOL!!!
At this point one can't take Phil serious at all, he is just waiting for his Golden Parachute to kick in and then he is pulling the ripcord. He is sending Sarah out to the sharks. He's outy.
 
There's some really childish posts here. I don't hate the guy, I don't know him.

It does seem like he has failed as President of XBOX. Sony is complete trash this generation and Microsoft has had a lot more output recently but it started off horribly and seems to be dropping off again. They have more studios, more assets and the better hardware, yet they continue to fail. The marketing is terrible (if non-existent) and evidently has a sub-par API.

A MS suit was molded into a 'one of us' situation simply by saying what people want to hear (not necessarily acting on it or succeeding) and ensuring gaming media/influencers backed the illusion. It's remarkable how long it took for people to catch on too - and some still haven't.
 
If decades and decades of pure failures, lying pinkie promises, massive lay offs and mismanagment isn't enought, then I'm sorry to say the problem is you.
 
I'll say this, despite making X360 selling Gazillion of Units, the real culprit for the decline of Xbox FP still remains Don Mattrick. Kinect did some nigh irreversible Damage on that FP front. The moment they wanted to turn things around it was almost too late. Making Games(especially good ones/masterpieces) takes time. They had to clean up all the Kinect mess first, when they realized that people lost interest in that Device. Also the DRM, always online, TV/Multimedia , forced Kinect stuff PR that damaged them

Because he is incompetent yet still get millons of dollars per year, that is UNFAIR. He had never achieved anything great since the PS3 era when he was the president of worldwide studios of XBOX. Look at what Shuhei Yoshida did in the same time window. My conclusion is that he doesn't have good taste in games. He should be fired long time ago.

Let's be honest here...

Microsoft should have shut down the Xbox division after the Xbox One. Or at least just ditched hardware and became a third party publisher.

Is there anything you really can say is a good thing that has come from Xbox still being a thing now? I mean I don't expect all those who saw their purchase of ABK as the second coming... to come now and say they got it all wrong, even while a lot of us parroted then that what is happening now was going to happen... but here we are.

Xbox has done some good for gaming, but the reality of it is that they have collectively done more bad. And blind tone tone-deaf Phil... is a walking, talking embodiment of all that is wrong with the brand today.

But here is the kicker... Phil is a snake oil merchant. And he's the only reason that the brand has stayed afloat for as long as it has thus far. But at what cost? The writing was already on the wall during the XB1 gen.
 
A games company can be judged fairly based on the games it makes. Or doesn't make. So, what games has Phil Spencer brought to market? His predecessors oversaw landmark titles like Halo and Gears of War, big hits like Fable, Project Gotham Racing, and Forza, and huge third party wins like Morrowind, Mass Effect, Oblivion, and BioShock. Spencer has delivered Redfall, Halo Infinite and Starfield (although I actually didn't mind Starfield). What do you think of Xbox's output under Spencer?

There is something deeply wrong with MS and Phil...

The cost to bring a console to market... and I mean total cost, is under $5B. Traditionally, you spend that much bringing the console to market, hoping that through software sales, you end the generation having made about $6-$10B in profits.

MS somehow deemed it wise to spend almost $80B (that's about 4+ console generations worth of profit) to purchase two publishers and corner the market. While giving their games away for a subscription service (that you can pay for at any month and just play some shit).

There was a blueprint to follow, Nintendo had done it... twice. Sony had done it, and get this... even MS had done it. But they somehow decided that none of that was what gamers wanted, wasn't what anyone wanted. I cant stress it enough when I say MS and Phil in turn, are the most incompetent shits I have ever seen in my life. Especially when you consider how much money they have at their disposal.

Phil himself said he got the job cause he was the highest ranking person left. He also said he's bad at his job and he's been proving it ever since. He should have never been head of Xbox.
 
Game Pass is bad for the games industry (just like Netflix is bad for the movie industry and Spotify is bad for the music industry)

Phil's legacy will not just be killing Xbox but also killing dozens? hundreds? of games studios
 
When you do things like make Redfall your flagship game, it's pretty obvious he doesn't know what he is doing.

But the biggest issue is their lack of knowing how to bring the right people in to fix the issues.

Sony and Nintendo doesn't have half the money to work with as Xbox but how does Sony and Nintendo manage to at least ship one GOTY caliber game each year but Xbox can't, it doesn't make sense and this is why people question the Xbox leadership.

Games output. There have been some good ones, but most are unremarkable at best over the decade. Even if the Xbox One launch wasnt a kinnect shitfest, they still didn't have the games to make it competitive. Their development cycle is asinine, the whole release first fix later shit doesn't work for gaming.
 
Xbox's first party output as been woefully anemic and almost everything that has been released has been crap. Like if that awful Indiana Jones game is your big success story you have problems. With all their money and all their studios they really shouldn't be struggling so hard to get out competently made games. That's on him.
 
More than a decade in charge of Xbox and he achieved... nothing. He flushed the brand completely down the toilet.

And then, far worse than that, he cancelled Scalebound.

Phil Spencer is an incompetent crook whose only "talent" is to say what people want to hear.

He said what Nadella wanted to hear to keep the Xbox running so that he, Phill, could continue to receive his money while only having the job of saying what people wanted to hear at the time, even if it contradicted what they were ALREADY doing.

If I make a list of the shit this bum has said, it will be a huge list... But I'll just give you an old example:

When Sony announced the PS4 PRO, the console was poorly received. Phill ran on the internet to play the good guy and be able to implicitly defame Sony, saying that they had no plans to make a more powerful Xbox One, when THEY were already making the Xbox One X.

Sometimes I don't know if Phil is stupid or dishonest.

When he planned the entire Xbox SX marketing around creating FUD about the PS5, I don't know if he believed the PS5 would be garbage or if he chose to lie... To this day I don't know if he lied to deceive others (fraud) or if he is stupid and arrogant.

None of them, he's not a good leader. And I know CEOs, I have to work with a good amount of them for my job. They have a clear vision on where the company should go, what to do to reach that, and being surrounded with people who come up with the best solutions and advices to help the company grow.

And I also saw shareholders pouring a huge amount of money in a bottomless pit with no clear vision of the upper management, more reactionnary than actionnary. This is where Xbox is
 
I look at facts before sharing my opinion piece and this time it's Schedule 1. Schedule 1 shows why and how older games are better, it's no longer a mystery why most modern games are failing and I don't think MS and even Sony aren't willing to solve this issue.
 
That guy is the perfect embodiment of why I hate Microsoft. It's under him that Bethesda and Activision were bought for collosal amount of money. From day one, Microsoft intent wasn't to compete but to eliminate the competition, and gain a monopoly over consoles. They created Xbox to kill Sony but since they got tottally wrecked by them, poor phil played the victim and went "let us compete" with his trillion dollars backing while he had real intent to buy Nintendo and Valve via scummy methods. This guy's just a parasite.
 
What is there to actually not hate?

At first he game across as a true gamer and a hero, I'm not sure if that was ever true. Or did he succumb to the corporate pressure. Was he ever really a gamer? or just a used cars salesman.

His job is to lie and he is good at it. Hopefully people wake up and realizer he is full of shit.
 
The idiot convinced Microsoft ceo to dump 80 billion in acquisitions and now dev studios with legendary IPs like elder scrolls, doom, warcraft, diablo, cod are being decimated by Microsoft's shitty game studio management and Microsoft's leadership expectative of a ROI. In about 10-15 years most of these studios will cease to exist and the IPs will forever buried by Microsoft.
