Widescreen PC gaming, forcing resolutions

I play my pc FPS's with a x360 pad using ControlMK and viewed on a widescreen projector.
As alot of you know, a large amount of pc games do not let you choose widescreen res, but as most of us know, you can simply edit the config file to force widescreen modes.
Here is a repository of how to config some games:

Thanks! I'm building a PC this week to connect to my HDTV. Hopefully most games will support widescreen now.

Nice - thanks for that although still very few cards that can pump out the 2560x1600 resolution I need.

How is ControlMK with the X360 pad?

In particular games such as COD2, Half Life 2, Battlefield 2, GT Legends, and Toca 3.

PC FPS with a controller? *Shock*

Do you actually prefer a gamepad over a mouse?

Or is this experimenting?

Well, i like both methods. Its impossible to be competitive using a gamepad when playing online, its not impossible by any means, but you sacrifice accuracy.

What you do benefit from is 'the couch'.

you can sprall out and play as you would a console fps. It makes the game a little bit more challenging, imagine playing with a mouse but you have no crosshair, its the same feeling.

Im currently playing FEAR, no use of slowdown and on hard difficulty and its good fun.

COD2: good fun, doesnt have the slight auto aim of the x360, can be difficult with the sniper rifle.

Half Life 2: exactly the same as HL2xbox, but no autoaim (its not a big deal). i find the weapon select a bit tougher, due to having to 'scroll' with whatever you mapped the mousewheel, but you can hotkey the G-gun for instant grenade grabs.

Battlefield 2:
controlling vehicles is much easier i think, especially flying. Just dont pick a sniper class, pinpoint aiming is difficult.

GT Legends:
great control and if you adjust the throttle and the break sensitivity, you can have near perfect trigger control on both.

Toca 3:
same as above.

added:

SWAT4:
you can map all the commands beautifully and it works quite well.
Except for the sniper team. you wont have enough buttons.
Which is a pain.

FEAR:
tremendous.

Lock On:
for 'pure' dogfighting, it works well. you will need the keyboard to land and takeoff :(

Operation flashpoint:
Fantastic with vehicles, iron sight aiming takes some control,

In addition: Psychonauts. works great with a pad as you could expect. BUT!
as an added bonus, it also works in 3d with shutterglasses. Imagine 'Milkman Conspiracy' in full 3d? yes, its mindmelting.

Unfortunately, my projector is LCD and the glasses wont work with it...
Which is a shame, but it spares me from the life altering feeling which Jeff bridges had...

Nice link, much better than my original.

Also, this, is insane:

Semi OT - COD2 on 360 screws you out of widescreen on a VGA monitor by supporting 4:3 native at higher than 720p resolutions. Which is cool, yet also sucks.

VGA, contrary to what people were saying initially, has far more issues than using an HDTV it seems. Didn't know about CoD2.

All the Dell FP series monitors do that. Even my 2001FP here at the office.
