Wii U back in stock at GameStop

I'm kinda glad that it sounds like you can find Wii Us in the wild. I am gonna try to pick one up for my sister and brother-in-law for Christmas. They loved the hell out of it at Thanksgiving, and I don't want them to miss out on the fun because of supply constraints.

What am i suppose to think if sites aren't even bothering to review Wii U games?

His point still stands that you're using a terrible metric to measure the success of the games. The actual volume of people on Miiverse under the games you listed is pretty good considering they all came out on another system most people own one of.

Has there ever been a time where a system has launched and most of the third party titles were just ports that have already been released on most other systems? It's an odd scenario, definitely one that would impact sales. They're not really games you would double dip for either.

How quick is Nintendo to discontinue their previous console? I can't recall GameCube staying in stores long, nor N64s. The DS is still lingering, though. They need to clear out those consoles to remove any buyer confusion.
All DSes are discontinued. There are still some in the retail channel, but that's leftover stock. They are no longer being made.

Wii U will be on sale for Black Friday? Where is this? People only buy stuff heavily discounted on BF, you know.
Stores put out crazy deals in the hopes they can make money on other stuff. It must work, or they wouldn't keep doing it.

It's going to significantly outperform 360's year 1. Not that it'll mean much, pundits will just compare it to Wii.
Heh. Wii first month sales couldn't match GameCube's.

As quick as the consumer demand is to discontinue. So NES went on in limited form past 2000 in some places, while GameCube had no reason to be past 2006.

I was using the lack of reviews as ONE example of the overall lack of interest in Wii U games.
I'm someone who's on the fence and it's hard to find impressions on these games.
I searched Trine 2 Directors Cut here on Neogaf and almost no one is talking about that game. Tekken Tag 2 is the same way.

I heard two different ladies walk by the Wii U saying we already have a Wii.

It doesn't mean anything, but I still maintain Nintendo has done a really poor job marketing this thing as an entirely new system.

I think thIs is a much bigger issue than some realize.

is this because of the wii name or because the wii and wii u look so similar? it's going to take time for the fact that it's new console to filter through, but there's the fact that the consoles look almost identical at first glance.

I think it's because of the name and because of the nature of the audience that made the Wii so popular.

If they were going to stick with the Wii brand to hold that audience, then they should have simply called it Wii 2 or Super Nintendo Wii (with appropriate advertising).

I think you're right.

the super wii name is so perfect, what were nintendo thinking. hindsight is 20/20 and all that, but they let a perfect opportunity slip through their fingers by not naming it super wii.

Actually, now that I think about it, Super Nintendo Wii would have been better. To make it more clearly not "some kind of Wii"

Super Nintendo Wii is just as confusing. But I don't hate the idea entirely.

Japan has a great marketing - Super Wii is basically the tagline and WiiU is the name.

At my local Best Buy, there were no Wii U's left, with a few PS3s and a good amount of 360's left (though they had way more sections of the store advertising and selling the 360 than they did PS3). The gamestop next to it still had a few Wii U's left, though.

I think Super Wii only makes sense to those who grew up with SNES, or those who are pretty young. It sounds like a toy name, not an all-ages lifestyle product.

Yeah Wii 2 really would have been the best choice from a marketing standpoint. Get the Wii audience, no confusion.
Agree. Actually, I think Wii U is an appropriate name for what this machine is... But marketing-wise, Wii 2 would be better to avoid confusion.

I noticed on GameStop's site that if you order one, despite them being back-ordered, the earliest one would receive it is on the 27th. I've never ordered anything from their site, are they usually pretty accurate with that sort of thing?

Nobody wants the white ones. Nobody. The only people who do, do not understand the difference between the two. That has been my experience in our GameStop district.

I understand the difference and want one. A friend of mine got the deluxe and fingerprints/dust show so badly on it that it would drive me crazy. And I couldn't care less about the accessories. If I ever want to play Nintendo Land I'll rent it on Game Fly and I have various USB flash drives lying around I can use to make up for the lack of storage space.

32GB and Nintendoland? Nintendo should pay people to take Nintendoland off their hands, and I shit more HDD space every morning than the deluxe has standard. The cradle is the only thing that means anything, and I won't be downloading enough of anything to make that "discount" thing worth it.

Thankfully my fiancee knew which one to pre-order when she was thinking about my birthday (heh, actually she just went with what was cheaper. But it worked out!)

I don't know, the black one still seems like a great deal regardless if you like Nintendo Land or not. It's a new, sealed game that sells for around $60 at retail. I sold my copy on eBay for $63 (so I could buy it again digitally). If you don't mind the color, in the long run buying the deluxe and selling the game would cost you less than the basic. Plus you get the $20 cradle/stands and extra hard drive space for free.

I guess if you think you could turn Nintendoland around I can see the value there. But I doubt I'd bother doing ebay, too much hassle, so I'd just trade it in and get $10 bucks. :P

Today at around 1pm, my local Best Buy had at least half a dozen basic sets out on the sales floor. I even saw a few deluxe and basic at Toys R Us. Surprised me on both accounts.

The White one is the better system for me personally. Don't care about Nintendoland, will never buy digital from them since purchases are not tied to the account, and I have a spare 1TB HDD just sitting around.

I went with white for 1. No need for the extra 24 gigs with HDD, 2. Can get digital copy of Nintendoland and 3. DEM FINGERPRINTS

Yea I lost $10 in the end but its worth it to me.

Just went by the Gamestop in Louisville and they were completely out of stock and there was a nice line to play with the thing. People are calling it the new "wii" but maybe that's not a bad thing for Nintendo.

My local Toys R Us was handing out tickets last night at opening. They still have them as of right now as well (this is the black one). Kind of scary that they did not sell out all last night and day today so far. Never seen this happen with a new home console before. Usually new consoles are scarce for the entire holiday period.

I wasn't planning on buying one until a game I really wanted came out. I went shopping around this morning after the big door busters and saw target sold out of them. Best buy had 6 basics left. I walked into GameStop and the cashier was putting one deluxe in the display case bc someone didn't pick up. I thought about it for a second and decided to snatch it up. I ended going back to best buy for my GF to buy a tv and only 1 basic was left.

Now which game should I get. Don't really want any game I can get on PC for cheaper. Really just leaves me with Mario or zombiu. Perhaps blops2.

ZombiU for sure if you want a slow-paced survival horror. If you begin the game and have a difficult time enjoying it, try chicken mode. It made it easier and more enjoyable for my roommate who plays a lot of COD.

Mario if you want more mario. It's a fantastic game.

Definitely check out the Indie games, as they are... all of them... very good. I personally recommend Nano Assault Neo and Mighty Switch Force. Both are only 10 bucks and amazing. Trine 2 is 20 dollars if you don't have it yet. It's ridiculously gorgeous and has fun online co-op.

It's definitely a good thing with some "bad" connotations. However, the new non-motion controller will probably help.

What were they playing? Rayman?

Nintendo Land is a brilliant compilation of games. I don't know what you're talking about. There's honestly nothing like it on the market. I've had so much success showing off and having fun with Nintendo Land, it's easily justified the extra 50 dollars.

However, if you're not interested in inviting people over to play, I can understand why you wouldn't want it. But Nintendo Land IS the new Wii Sports, but much better quality.

[damn it! Tripple post? REally? Come on guys! I'm an idiot]

Dude, it's over. The game actually came out and turned out to be a good game. It may not be worth the $60 price tag, but it and the other things you get in deluxe package more than make up for the $50 price difference.

Plenty of Wiius at Best Buy, Walmart and Gamestop in my area.. I don't think there is a lot of demand instead of good supply.

My retail story from a day working at Walmart:

Yesterday when I left work (about 5pm) I think we had 4 Wii Us: 2 basics and 2 deluxes. When I came in at 10am today they were all gone.

Although sometime around noon I noticed someone put out 2 more deluxe sets. Apparently we had some left in the back or something. One we sold almost immediately to a guy (didn't buy any games though), the other actually managed to sit there for about 3 or so hours. Kind of surprising really, since people were just swarming the game case and electronics in general. But I went on lunch at about 3, and came back around 4, and it was gone then.

In terms of people talking about it, I had three instances of people asking me if they could play Wii U games on their Wii. I tried to make it very clear to them that the Wii U was Nintendo's next system, like a Wii 2. Just about all of them didn't react very well to it, and none of them showed a particular amount of interest in it. One woman was actually getting ready to buy ZombiU for their kid as a Christmas present decided to get some random Cabela's Hunting game for $20 after I told her it wouldn't work on the Wii. Poor kid.

For me it was the lack of online play that makes me uninterested.

I was at a GameStop in Philadelphia in early afternoon, and they were putting up a sign advertising that they still had Wii U in stock. Doomed, no doubt.
