Wii U Firmware Update is live everywhere. Everyone calm down.

Users can choose to output sound through an HDMI cable, non-HDMI cable, or both cables at the same time. Click here for instructions

Oh thank god. I can finally hook it up to my system finally!

I have seen other similar comments and I have come to the same conclusion. The gamepad screen, atleast for the main menu, seems to be more define and clear. It might be imagination but im fairly positive visual quality is more refined.

We already know that Nintendo plans to bring connectivity to smartphones and PC.
Yes, that was not the point, it was the bolded. There are a number of ways to say "besides WiiU", so "non-Nintendo hardware" does imply not just the WiiU, but the 3DS as well.

I feel that exiting the eshop or returning from settings is much much quicker

Now this can be true or it can be me believing the update did something

I don't know, is it still slow? Yes , but I think it's faster

People with problems on netflix: just open the wii u menu and delete your netflix app and save data. Actually, you just need to delete netflix save data and redownload the app or start it over.

It works!

That used to be a temp solution, but it wasn't actually a solution. Sometimes it'll work, sometimes it won't. Rebooting the system until it loads is much faster than going through all that crap.

So, this update hasn't fixed netflix, right?

I've never ever had a problem with netflix. So weird that others have

I always find it weird when a lot of people have problems I never encountered. I must be lucky.

I was like you guys... until that first update earlier this year.

I'm sure it's been mentioned but now you can tap and hold a video to play it on the page instead of opening the playback screen. Neat.

Are these updates just like PS3 updates where it downloads the entire OS again instead of patching the existing firmware like the 360?

I don't get it... Why do we still have to us the wiimote to play Wii games on the Wii U game pad? The game pad has enough buttons and the screen is a touch screen with a stylist... Couldn't they just use that in place of the wiimote IR pointer?

Obviously it's not that simple.

CC-only games working with the Gamepad makes some sense though. Maybe it'll happen someday.

I think I may actually get some use out of this Wii off-TV play lol. Gonna gear up for another run of Skyward Sword and see how it works. It'll be great to be able to use my headphones for the sound in Wii games now.

So, this update hasn't fixed netflix, right?

I think it might have. I just used Netflix and when I started the app it gave me a message saying something like "software updated" or something like that, and it loaded up the first time. Before the update I usually had to restart it once or twice before it would work. That doesn't mean it was fixed but it seemed to me like it was.

No, it's patching the existing firmware. They are just changing A LOT of stuff in the background. In fact, they are probably changing a lot of stuff that is high in the file hierarchy, so that would explain the big files. The smaller stability updates are usually only a couple dozen of MB.

When you create software, to make it efficiently, you separate all the code in a multitude of different files, to keep it clean and easy to modify later on (great for debugging and updating the software).
These files need a hierarchy, and many of them NEED some other fils to exist or to be compiled before they are.
Example: File1 is the main one, the base. It is needed for File1.1 and File1.2. Both of these have also a child (1.1.1 and 1.2.1 respectively)
If you change 1.1.1, you only need to push an update containing 1.1.1, so a small sized one, but if you change 1, ALL the others need to be recompiled, so you need to push all of them in the update, making it bigger.

so the main feature on this update is to play my wii stuff on the game pad by using a controller??

Damn, not the exciting update I was hoping for....

my netflix just got updated. im not sure if this is an old update and that i just didnt notice but it seems like i got a notification saying my download update finish and it shows netflix.if this is new, hopefully this fixed the freezing.

I'm surprised some of you are still having trouble with loading times. The Spring update fixed that for me. Everything is about 4-5 seconds. Every once in a while something like netflix or miiverse will take a little longer, but not often, and never that long.

I just completed my update and my Wii mode keeps crashing...

I first put in Ghostbusters: The Video Game and the system began loading the Wii mode, but then abruptly turned off... I then grabbed Super Mario Galaxy and it does the exact same thing...

Anyone else have this issue???? My Wii mode is worthless now!

EDIT: The system only crashes in game pad mode. Wii mode opens and works fine in TV only mode.

EDIT 2: I finally got it to work! I removed the game disc, removed the SD card, and unplugged the game pad from the USB port on the front of the Wii U... It appears one of those items was causing the issue. How odd...

update is going pretty quick for me, over half way done within 10 mins. Says I have 10 mins left... I am on a wired connection.

I got the update already yesterday. I didn't notice any changes in the user interface, so hopefully it's a stability fix.

And how about the wiimotes motion sensing? You're vastly trivializing it. You can't just arbitrarily map motion controls to buttons and stylus. For the CC yes, but for the wiimote it wouldn't make any sense

Isn't the Wii U supposed to update automatically? Mine hasn't done it yet for a firmware update

Yeah I was wondering about this. Pretty sure I have the option on (if there is one) Spotpass? Seems these auto updates just never seem to actually happen.

OMG!!!! as i typed this I was loading Netflix/ Usually when it freezes for me it freezes when it opens the app and then everything turns to black. Now Its freezing right now and I still see the loading circle. GAWD DANGIT! WTF NETFLIX/NINTENDO!. at least i can turn wii u off with gamepad. before i had to do a hard reset.

I gotta be honest, I'm really disappointed that there are no folders. I primarily purchase my games digitally, and my home screen on the GamePad is a cluttered mess. That's the ONLY thing I cared about getting for this update. Frustrating.

I myself am on page seven or eight now. Folders would be cool.

yup same. Don't care about that account system crap or whatever; just gimme my folders.

My eshop music is identical to what it was before, so I'm wondering why some of you are saying it's different now.

I wonder what the deal is with this one. It's the same music for me, too.

You need your TV on to start Wii mode, even if you are just using the game pad you still need the TV on for the. Wii menu to boot.
