Wii U Satisfaction Thread

Thanks for the feedback, lol to the "buy a second tv" comment!

I thought NintendoLand wasn't playable exclusively on the GamePad?

Any eShop games (gamepad exclusive) anyone wants to recommend?

Funny, I was so giddy last night about the prospect of getting my Wii U today that I couldn't sleep. Like a kid waiting for Christmas morning.
NintendoLand uses TV and wiimotes for a bunch of things, but the games I play the most - gunship mode in Metroid Blast, archer mode in Zelda Battle Quest, Donkey Kong Crash Course and Pikmin as Olimar are all gamepad-only.

Re gamepad-only eShop games: Trine2 (even if you have played it elsewhere it's the definitive version), Nano Assault Neo (a nice shmup) and MSF (a glorious 2D platformer) are all a blast on the gamepad.

See you in miiverse soon!

I've had my wii u (basic) since christmas and I am satisfied. I kinda wish I hadnt bought AC3 for my PS3 though because i'm wanting to try something else out on it.

CoD is probably the game I'll pick up first. I've missed out on the last few years and have been wanting to play them badly. It seems that a lot of people are recommending Wii-mote/nunchuck to play which surprises me. Seems like people avoided this combo with FPS/TPS on the Wii, has the sensitivity been improved that much on the Wii U?
Give this set up a try and come back here to post your impressions. It's pretty much as fluid as using a mouse :)

So, I've finished AC3 and have kinda gotten bored with Nintendoland... Now I'm trying to decide between DS2, BLOPS2, or ME:3... any suggestions?

Depends if you're more into action-adventures, competitive FPS', or dating sims.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for their responses! Cannot wait to get mine at lunch time, tonight is going to be so great!
Erm, prepare for some FW update time.

Called Nintendo today to see whats up with my account since they hadn't called me back and was told the "ADMIN" department is backed up cause of the holidays, so the wait time is 4-5 days instead of the normal 1-2 Days :( I REAAAAALLLLLY regret buying digital at this point.

Just a heads up. You may want to not update when prompted to. It will begin downloading in the background, while you use the system.

what was the problem?

Haven't had the chance to use the Pro controller yet, but does the smaller form factor and different handles make the stick placement feel much different from the Gamepad?

If I could choose right now, I'd say their stick placement should become the new standard.

TVii wasn't working for me, so i naturally brought the system back and got a new one cause it was only 2 weeks old and i've been burned before with shit like this.
NNID is locked to the console so now i have to wait for Nintendo to hopefully unlock it or transfer over my account to a new one. I had bought Mario, ZombiU and Nano Assault through the eSHOP.

This is so screwed up, I really hate Nintendo for fuckin their customer over again with the shitty account implementation.

Have you played the other Mass Effects?

I played 2 on PS3 but the audio glitches that run rampant in it turned me away from getting 3 on it. (Impossible to play without subtitles on, you'd have no idea what was going on.)

I'd like to think i'm a well-rounded gamer... I can get into pretty much any type of game.

I'd get DS2 to fill the Zelda gap, BLOPS 2 because I haven't played an FPS since BLOPS1, and ME3 because I enjoyed 2... That said, I guess I'm I'm looking for the most bang for my buck...

Doesn't the manual say to contact Nintendo and not simply return the device to the store if something is wrong with it? Need to double check but I could have sworn I saw that. Or maybe I'm just thinking of other electronics where that's been said.

I think if you play online, then Black Ops II is your best bet for longevity. I really didn't like the campaign in that game, though. It's gruesome and shocking for no good reason IMO.

Got my Wii U! Was hoping I could get through some of the setup to test out the unit at work, but it looks like I need a TV to pair up the gamepad. Anyway to do this without the use of an actual TV?

oh that sucks, TVii does not work much for me but I just ignored that app

I have over 10 digital games already not going to let go of this box anytime soon

Same, happy with my Wii U, and wish I had played AC3 on the Wii U instead of my 360. It would have been interesting to see the what uses the tablet would have served throughout the game.

I've decided to work my way through Mass Effect 1-3 on the 360 for the first time and then after that I'll probably purchased ZombiU.

Map and horse button, oh and you can select weapons using to touchscreen while holding "R" .... so.... yeah...

Oh, and off-TV play (worth it if you ask me)

So Trine 2 was one of the best games I've played in a while. How are the other download-only games? Is Nano Assault Neo substantially long for its price or in general? I do like some twin stick shooters (like Robotron and Smash TV), so I was thinking about it.

Oh wow. Was there anything else wrong with it? What exactly wasn't working with TVii?

That was the only thing wrong with it, basically it was loading at all so i thought something was wrong with my system, turns out all i had to do was change the DNS numbers to get it to work cause it wasn't working on the new console either till i did that

It's a good twin-stick shmup. If you're into those competitively then you'll surely get your 10 bucks worth of it.

What do you mean by "competitively"? I'm not interested in online multiplayer at all, if that's the gist. Is the single player somewhat limited?

How would you rate it if it were a Zelda game? Just curious.

I am a huge Zelda fan and I liked DS 2 better than Skyward Sword (I am not a big Skyward Sword fan). I think DS 2 is a solid 8.5 game. I would have given it higher if all the puzzles aren't just a variation of a theme. In other words, what you do to solve puzzles is almost always the same even though the puzzles themselves become more complex the futher you get into the game. There is also some "get 3 of this and 3 of that" that is also in Zelda, but I found these quests to be alot more enjoyable than the chores you were given to do in Skyward Sword.

By 'competitively' I mean leaderboards. Otherwise the game offers 4 worlds of 3 levels each (and rather bland bosses at the end of each world), IIRC. Plus an endurance mode where you cannot regain hearts.

Game is not 'lengthy' by any means, but neither is Ikaruga. But if you have the slightest of inclinations to beat your own scores, then chances are game will last you for a good while.

You know what would be nice, if Ubisoft supported DLC on the Wii U version you would now have more to do with AC3.

I'm getting REALLY pissed off at 3rd parties complete lack of ability to support their own DLC on the Wii U. AC3, ME3, Injustice, BLOPs2, all lacking the dlc found on other platforms. I'm done buying 3rd party games that can't do this.

No DLC support on Wii U version means you get bought used if at all.

I agree. But then, I am about to make another game purchase that may not have happened yet otherwise...

Thanks for the recommendations, haven't played either so I'll look at those tonight.

Pointer controls are much faster, accurate, and less cumbersome than analog sticks at aiming. Wii owners have been saying this for years now. It just takes a little getting used to and some adjustments in the settings until you feel comfortable.

Analog sticks can't do this for instance.

Unless they massively retooled the Wii U version, the version of Darksiders 2 I played (PC) just massively falls off a cliff after the second area.

It was clearly rushed to help save THQ from dire straits because the game basically looks at the player, shrugs, and starts jogging after a running start.

Hm. The Cave looks quite a bit like Trine 2 but with less of an action element but more whimsy and more puzzles. My suspicion is that unlike Trine 2, the puzzles generally only have one solution. Still looks worthy of a try.

Thanks for this, I was wondering if it was worth my time and effort, I don't even like the beginning that much.
Selling it and getting ZombiU.

Seeing videos of CoD with Wiimote makes me REALLY want BF3 for WiiU.

Hi everyone,

I'm a long term lurker who finally signed up. I'm a multi console and pc owner.

I just wanted to add my voice to those very happy with the console. I got it as I was very interested in zombiu , which I loved. I've got a few games now and myself and the family are very happy with it.

In fact my wife has just been enjoying NSMBU on the gamepad whilst i played another console. Brilliant idea that.

So hi all. Happy owner here.

You should be "pissed" at Nintendo. I'm pretty sure the Wii U still doesn't support proper DLC, that's why third parties can't offer paid or free DLC as well as pre-order content downloaded through the eShop.

Nintendo promised the functionality for December in a press release, but as far as we know they are running late and haven't added anything off the sort yet.

The real problem with the Wii Remote & Nunchuck combo is the lack of buttons.

Or at least their placement. PS3 controller has twelve buttons not counting the analog sticks but counting the d-pad (as games often treat it as four buttons if they use the stick as primary means of moving things). Wii and Nunchuk collectively has twelve buttons not counting the analog stick. If you count the stick buttons, the former has two more buttons. This is not a huge difference, as most games really should not need fourteen buttons to operate.

But the placement is horrible. You have to really contort your hand to reach the +, 1, and 2 buttons on the remote when you use it with a 'chuck. That was pretty weak. Nintendo could have done a hell of a lot better there without sacrificing their "don't overconfuse" design policy.

Shake the nunchuck to shoot in PES Playmaker, shake the wiimote to play an offside, that's 2 more buttons when done correctly. Shake to reload in CoD on Wii U works very well too.
