Wii U Satisfaction Thread

Question for tech savvy people: I have a 720p native set, but 1080p is much sharper. Would normal Wii games look any better if I have 1080p over 720p? Do 720p native games automatically switch over to 720p if the system is set to 1080p?

Most games can only display at a max of 720p anyway. You're not going to miss out on anything. A 1080p set auto-detects what the system is putting out and switches to 720p.

If your TV is 720p native, set the Wii U to 720p. This will give you the best possible picture, a downscaled 1080p image is, by necessity, going to be worse (additional artefacts as well as lost details due to how downscaling algorithms work).

Playing Balloon Fight has reminded me again why the system is awesome and why I like Miiverse so much.

It's such a simple game, but playing it, getting a high score, posting a screenshot to Miiverse, and then just casually seeing what everyone else in the community is up to is great. Lots of love for the game, and lots of love from Earthbound beggers. Hah. And I don't even have to turn on my TV to enjoy it.

Seriously, it's a 30 cent title and yet the treatment is along the lines of full-priced titles. You get plenty of awesome drawings and a nice sense of community.

Miiverse, man. Makes you feel warm on the inside. I'm looking forward to playing all of the 30 cent titles and eventually my upgraded VC games because of the Wii U features. Reminds me again why this system is already leagues beyond the Wii with its online functionality.

Question that has probably been addressed, but does anyone know why Wii BC is displayed in borders when the regular Wii U content is full screen? How can I resolve this?

This is normal behaviour and can not be resolved at this point (likely a leftover of the fact that the Wii accounted for the fact that pretty much every TV has fixed overscan using analogue inputs). Maybe Nintendo will implement additional scaling options for Wii mode, but we neither know whether that's feasible nor whether such an effort is even planned.

I hate that games cost so much on the eShop - but then that's also the case for the 3DS. I also hate how long the menus seem to load; hopefully the updates will fix that. And why are GBA games coming to the WiiU but not the 3DS? Why not Gamecube games? Then again, I would love to play Eternal Darkness in HD.

What I do love is the Off TV play feature - I really hope that Orbis/Durango incorporates that somehow. I can't wait to play VC titles while watching an nba/nfl/ncaaf game. I also like the community boards for the games.

As a gamer, Miiverse feels like coming home - I feel more connected to the community on Wii U than on any other system. Period.

This gen I have skipped Wii and I feel I have missed a lot of great games (donkey kong, mario galaxy, metroid, zelda...) so I was thinking to get wii u to play wii games. Is it a smart move or should i just get a wii?
Currently there are 0 games I am interested in playing on Wiiu but later on, when zelda or next mario comes out i am definitely getting wii u.

Are there any indie games on Wii U you are interested in right now?

I want to tell you to just get a Wii U because getting a Wii at this point especially when you know you're going to get a Wii U down the road seems like a waste of money. Of course, a Wii remote + and nunchuck will set you back about $60, which you'll have to buy separately from your Wii U if you go that route. But you'd still be paying another ~$100 on top of that if you got just a Wii.

I doubt the Wii U will go down $100 by the time you really want one, so I'd just get it now. Plus you can join us in Miiverse. :)

This. The 30p "sale" is a very nice move from Nintendo. And the community just makes it better.

Lately I've been really glad I've purchased a Wii U. My laptop broke and I'm using it to browse the web. Hands down the best browser in a console ever. The touch screen makes all the difference!

But overall I don't regret buying it. Had loads of fun with Nintendo Land and ZombiU. Of course I could have saved a few pounds buying it AFTER christmas, but at least I had the time away from work during the holidays to play it... No regrets so far, and with Bayo2 and X on the horizon, don't think I will be feeling regret anytime soon... :)

I must say that my Wii U has grown on me in the last couple of months, and now that Nintendo has announced a bunch of interesting games (that we knew were coming, aside from Windwaked and Yoshi, but still) I'm happy to say that I'm satisfied with my purchase.

Trine 2 is great with the girlfriend, and I'm having a great time even playing some Skyward Sword on the console.

You knew SMT X Fire Emblem was coming out?

Quick question. Is the sound output out of the gamepad lower quality than out of the console? Obviously the gamepad speaker sucks but what about if you use headphones?

Maybe it's just me but in my experience it depends on what you're playing or listening to. NSMBU sounds great with headphones but for some reason the sound is really low when using the netflix app.

Actually I'll agree with this, it's not a difference in quality per se but there is a notable difference in the volume that different games output at. Fortunately there's a volume slider.

It sounds great with using headphones. Nice and clear.

I cant tell if theres a difference. Technically im sure there is, since its being streamed. Also its hard to judge since it depends on the quality of your headphones/tv speakers.

Im sure you'll be happy with the sound quality using the gamepad with headphones.

edit: i should mention im using headphones that came with my phone.

Just double-checked and everything sounds great. Especially when its out-putting in surround sound. Id be surprised if you didnt like the quality.

I think it in large part depends on the quality of headphones you are using. My Sennheisers sound great when connected to the gamepad.

My bad I meant the volume not the quality in that case, even with the slider at max it still sounds low in the netflix app.

I just realized something pretty cool.

You can do off-tv play while using the wii mote for controls in nsmbu. Not sure if theres other games that can do this.

So you can put your gamepad on the charging dock(maximum brightness) and play with the wii remote with headphones plugged. Pretty cool if you dont have another tv or dont want to move your wii u around.

if you wanted to get creative. you could hook up your wii u in your car and strap the gamepad to the back of a seat and your kids could play nsmbu with the wii remote

nm, you cant have the game audio out-put from the gamepad if you do this.

Since this the most active Wii U thread I'm gonna ask this here: did any of you bother with a screen protector? If so which brand?

I always use protectors myself, but for some reason I'm leaning towards not to for gamepad. The quality of it just gives an impression that it can sustain strenuous gaming activity for some reason.

Picking up a Wii U later this week. I went from not wanting one to wanting one quite a bit due to the announced titles this week. I am pretty excited about it. :)

I don't regret my purchase. NintendoLand and NSMBuhave ben great for keeping my attention, and the gamepad doesn't cease to amaze me. I don't have much experience with tablet-like devices though.

Unless careless people are going to be using it, I see no need for screen protectors. I can't see the screen getting scratched through normal use.

I don't get this statement, is the gamepad not able to sustain activity or the protector?

I always use a screen protector for everything regardless of the number of people using it.

i dont use a screen protector for the gamepad and the screen looks perfectly fine after having it for a little over a month now. the only issue im having is the sides of the gamepad looks like someone smeared hair grease on it.

Man, I really wish company would stop price gouging on digital versions of retail games in Europe. I've been tempted over the weekend to purchase some games off the eshop, but I just can't find a reason to pay £55, when online retailers have got them for £35.

Well,

i used to be very impressed with the WiiU. I bought the Zombiu package, NintendoLand, COD. I started playing Zombi U and yesterday i had the whole day for myself and i was looking forward beating the game, i saved near the petrol station. When i started i was missing an item, the fuel. It cant be seen and after looking it up, this is the GAMEBREAKING glitch! @$* UBISOFT! This game is unbeatable and after 10 hours, i am not prepared to start over. It seems alot of people experience this glitch but UBISOFT doesnt seem to be prepared to fix this glitch!

That means i am stuck with a broken game!!!!!This is the first time i experienced a glitch that doesnt lety you finish the game. Its like buying a movie and the ending isnt on it.

What to do? Wait for Ubisoft to fix the glitch or should i send a letter?

I had a glitch at petrol station also, although slightly different. I just restarted and made sure I didnt die in the same area as before. Played 4 times through since and avoided them all. Would be nice if Ubi patched the game as it obviously has a few probems but it's been suggested they are busy working on new projects :/
