Wii U Satisfaction Thread

I have a question as a prospective buyer:

What happens if you have a lot of VC/wiiware games and transfer them over. I know are they all playable from the Wii menu, but how is the storage of that little partition?

ie Can you select all of them from the Wii menu itself, or do you have them split between the Wii menu and the Wii menu's SD Card menu

Wii U -> Wii -> Choose game
or
Wii U -> Wii -> SD Card for more games

Is it a case of fridges within fridges?

it's a swinger club for fridges. And you have to clean them all.

I just realized something pretty cool.

You can do off-tv play while using the wii mote for controls in nsmbu. Not sure if theres other games that can do this.

So you can put your gamepad on the charging dock(maximum brightness) and play with the wii remote with headphones plugged. Pretty cool if you dont have another tv or dont want to move your wii u around.

if you wanted to get creative. you could hook up your wii u in your car and strap the gamepad to the back of a seat and your kids could play nsmbu with the wii remote

nm, you cant have the game audio out-put from the gamepad if you do this.

can you play Wii games like this? Skyward Sword off screen play, set the gamepad up on the stand and use the Wii-mote?

Be warned - you're going to have to re-download ALL OF THEM after the transfer. At least I had to; none of them worked. I have around 65-70 games and it took for-fucking-ever.

You don't have to redownload anything that's saved onto the Wii menu, just your SD Card stuff.

man, the gamepad loses signal RIGHT at my bedroom. I tried moving the system around a bit and sitting as close to the door of my bedroom as possible, but it's JUST on the edge of the signal range. Can't really rearrange my living room at all. I wonder if Nintendo will ever release some kind of signal booster?

I finally bought a Wii U. So happy about this! I ha NSMBU for 2 months now, but without the console... lol

So, it's really awesome. Especially, the browser. It's actually more convenient than my old PC. Miiverse is also really good and I'll totally stick there for hours every week. Unfortunately, the eShop is down and I haven't downloaded anything yet. =(

The update took me about an hour and it wasn't as bad as many said. On the other hand, I couldn't download the demos... They wanted an hour, probably because I tried to download them all at once. And when I was abou to download only Rayman, the eShop was down...

I've had mine since the end of December and I'm still appreciating more and more what Nintendo has done with this console. It really grows on you.

I haven't played much off tv play until I started playing nsmbu. It's the perfect game for off tv play and I'm starting to prefer playing it more as a handheld game. It's nice being able to watch some basketball while playing a console quality game on a big screen handheld. I can see why Nintendo chose this as a launch game.

Can't wait for some MH3.

Hi All. I am a Neogaf regular but I have just a few posts. I come from PC background which lasted for me until the early days of steam, HL2, BF2, Far Cry 1, etc. Then moved into consoles with the Wii, as I thought was innovative plus a good family console (I have 3 kids plus the wife). A year later I paired that with a phat PS3 40gb (now 500GB). Those 2 were enough for me, I found that even too much at times since I have limited time for gaming, but you now, I felt I had to get into HD gaming. Loved them both. OK enough with the Intro.

I got my Deluxe Wii U 2 weeks after launch, really pricey here in Costa Rica ($600 I paid). I am really loving this console and its potential. I got NSMBU, ZombiU, S&S Racing, Nintendo Land, Neo Assault Neo and Trine 2. My 6 year old is becoming a Master in Mario as well as in S&S Racing. We also play Nintendo Land at times and it is a blast. I have still to manage time to complete everything in Nintendo Land. NSMBU I am at the 4th World and ZombiU I have been playing for short periods, mainly after I finish a major goal (I just finish the Palace). Don't know if I will buy a PS4 or a PC, but I think the WiiU will be enough for me, I will get them but this time not on launch, maybe 2 years down the road. This gen when you compare Sony and MS games with major effort Wii U games I think the average Joe will not tell the difference, not that there will not be one.

I have a PS3 backlog and now a small Wii U backlog but I am really looking forward to Rayman, Lego City, Pikmin 3, W101 and the obvious Nintendo games. I want to buy CoDBOs 2 and it would be cool to get a fresh new FPS game, hopefully a go to multiplayer game ala Counter Strike in the PC realm.

The cross-community creeperism in Miiverse is getting a little disturbing…
who wants to video chat with me u have to be 14 or under
Is this a sort of thing that people have to deal with in online gaming communities in general, or is the text/drawing-only nature of Miiverse different in this regard?

I just got a Wii U Pro Controller (NewEgg's $12 off deal from ages ago finally went through), and something is bugging me...

I can't seem to use the Pro controller as a second controller in the Virtual Console Balloon Fight Game. If I have one pro controller, it always seems to default to player 1... you can't seem to use the Game Pad and a Pro controller for two player gaming, as the first pro defaults to player one and can't be switched from it.

Is there a way to set a controller to player 2 when using just a Gamepad and a second controller?

Pretty sure those kind of people are preteens and teens themselves looking to chat with others, albeit asking so in a weird direct kind of way.

What's wrong with nintendo guys?

All these games not announced to Wii U:

Metal gear Rising
Bioshock 3
Crysis 3
Dead space 3
Metal gear phantom Pain
Tomb Raider
Dishonored
GTA V
Dark soul 2
DmC
Resident evil 6
Dead or alive 5
Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm 3
Far Cry 3
FFXIII:Lightning Returns

And there is so many.

Nintendo lost there Magic again and again to get 3rd party , i don't know why even Mr.reggi promises us to get many game and still nothings showed up.

That's mean start from now Wii U will be only 1st party supported for next generation or nintendo will do the magic very soon.

Nintendo bring all control type and good mid range GPU still we get nothings .

I think in the end this is nintendo mistake and 3rd party do there job very well , i remember when Ps3 coming even with hard development get so many support.

I wish my thinking wrong in the end and nintendo will solve this very soon.

I wish I could somehow un-read this.

Thanks for the tip, but it doesn't quite address my question : do you still have to access some vc/wiiware games via the sd card menu if you go over the limit like on Wii?

I've befriended a 60 yr old gamer via Miiverse. I helped him out with something and he sent me a friend request. We sent a few messages back and forth.

Interesting...

Before transferring, try putting as much games on the Wii system memory as you can. After doing the transfer, games originally on the system memory are playable right away, but those on the SD card have to be redownloaded. They will still show up in the SD Card menu, but you won't be able to run them. You have to delete them all and then redownload them one by one.

The size limits on the Wii U's Wii Mode are exactly as they were on Wii.

OK, that clears it up, thank you.

I guess thanks to some of the channels not crossing over to the Wii U (news, weather channel etc) will give a bit more room too. Bummer that the SD card menu is still needed, it would be nice to move everything onto a Wii channel screen without having to dig another level down.

Bioshock 3

Bioshock 3 hasn't been announced at all. Unless you mean infinite, which has been announced for WiiU. Also, just because some games aren't on there, doesn't mean no games are on there. Stop being an idiot for the sake of attention.

This guy has been "seeking attention" in other Wii U posts.

It is what it is. I hope the support grows. I don't have that much time to game anyway, so for me the lineup as is, will be enough, but I do hope Wii U could get all of this games, as Off TV Play is awesome. I am pretty hyped for Lego City for instance, which has no hype at all, check the cvg preview, seems pretty cool to me.

So lets get back on track!

Favorite games so far: very close, Nintendo Land, NSMBU and ZombiU
Favorite eshop title: Trine 2
Favorite Features: off tv play and the control ergonomics. Also having the option to play on the TV but sending the audio to the gamepad like ZombiU, for some quite gaming while everyone sleeps.
Looking forward to: short term Rayman, Lego City and W101, long term Retro project whatever it is but I am hoping for Metroid, Mario 3D and Bayonetta 2.
Next buy: Rayman and Black Ops 2
Don't like: loading times and the Slow OS but nothing that undermines the whole experience.
Regrets: buying NBA2K13 for PS3 and not Wii U.

nnid: crmegabyte.

Most played: BlackOps2 followed tightly by the internet browser (mainly banking, GAF and YoutTube)
Favourite software feature: MiiVerse
Favourite hardware feature: Ergonomics and weight of both gamepad and pro controller followed by battery capacity of the pro controller.
Most played Eshop title: Little Inferno (will soon be surpassed by The Cave)
Next retail game to buy: Aliens Colonial Marines and Lego City Undercover

Disappointments: Download speed, youtube app, lack of media acclaim and appreciation

The Future: Looks bright.

While I sure would like to see something like Metal Gear Rising on the Wii U, I think there are a lot of really cool things they can do with Metal Gear and the gamepad that warrant a new game entirely. So if it takes two years to see something like that instead, I'm ok with it. I still have a 360/PS3 to play the other stuff on.

To get back on track though, Nintendo seriously needs to consider a full-blown Donkey Kong Crash Course game of some kind. Make it for the 3DS or the Wii U. I don't really care. But man, they need to make that.

Despite having a Wii U since November, I only just downloaded the YouTube app - just to check it out.

I like what they've done, but is there any way to lower the video quality? It seems to be stuck on HD all the time which is a problem because almost every video is plagued by long buffering times.

I love my Wii U. Off TV play is amazing. I've been able to put more gaming time into the Wii U than I ever did on the Wii. CoD Off TV play is so good. Zombi U is now my favorite survival horror game. An incredible title that truly shows the potential of 2nd screen gaming. I also enjoyed the minimal time I've put into NintendoLand with the kids, Batman and Trine 2. I haven't even touched Assassin's Creed 3.

I got the Wii U on launch day and I knew what I would be getting into by being an early adopter, but I didn't think it would be so soon I would be having problems.

I've mainly been playing first person games, Black Ops 2 and Zombi U and noticed the framerate dropped around the middle of the screen for a few seconds when moving the camera. Almost as if it felt like it catched on something. If the camera was to the far right and I tried to move it to the left, it sloowwwly moved back to the left and the framerate would be fine. It's really hard to describe. The best way I can put is the camera framerate or retical feels like it drags and snags but the rest of the game is fine.

So I reset the GamePad analog sticks by pressing +, -, a and b at the same time for 3 seconds and it was no change. I then connected my old Classic Controller Pro that I got with Monster Hunter Tri to see if was the console or the GamePad and the same thing was happening on that as well! I've never seen anything like that before. I should mention all of my discs are pristine as I treat them like a holy shrine. After calling Nintendo support, the rep seems to think it's an with the CPU/GPU. I sent it into Nintendo for repairs. I can't see them putting in a new motherboard, so I have a feeling they're going to give me a new one. I can't and hope I don't get a refurb, since it's really early in the life of the Wii U.

So I connected the Wii back to the main TV and thought to myself, I've had this thing for 6 years and I have never had any issues with it. I've had the Wii U for 2 months and it freezes intermittently and now I've had to send it in for repairs.

Like I said, I knew what I was getting into by being an early adopter but I didn't think the console would have to get repaired this early. It feels to me like it was released a little too early, by 6 months or so, with the slow OS, incomplete features at launch with TVii and to some degree the VC not being ready either. This is the first and last time I will be getting a console at launch. I jumped early because the Wii was getting long in the tooth with SD and the GamePad was the biggest draw. I don't post much on Neogaf, I mainly follow threads but I don't get the doom and gloom surrounding the system. It's only been a couple of months and I don't think it will reach Wii levels in terms of sales. That ship has sailed, but what an incredibly fun console it is! I hope off TV play is something that they carry into their next console. Sorry for the long rant.

I'm looking for some game recommendations. Got my Wii U last week for pretty darn cheap via a forum trade. I have zero games so far, but it's been a blast using it as a web browser in my room and on the shitter lol. The browser is amazing, I prefer it over my new Nexus phone. Stylus\analog stick resistive browsing feels a lot better.

I'm probably going to pick up Ninja Gaiden. I downloaded the Sonic Racing demo and had fun with it, I might get that also. I was wondering what other retail games there are that are good.

I tried the ZombiU demo but something felt really off with the right stick for looking and aiming, like it felt slow and I had to completely tilt the analog stick almost. Is it the same with Black Ops 2 (thinking about getting it), or if it's just by design for ZombiU.

I also bought $70 in eshop money, but I have no idea what's good. I already have Trine 2 on pc and ps3, so that's out, and I also already have Mighty Switch Force on 3DS.

Any recommendations would be helpful (released or really close upcoming games), just looking to put my new Wii U to good use.

ZombiU kinda ,,saved'' the launch for me, but I'm also a survival horror fan. I had no problems with the controls (except that holding down the stick for running felt unnatural to me), but I remember the demo I've played at an event having lots of control options so I'd assume they are also in the final game.

Speaking of Trine 2, does it have pointer controls with wiimote + nunchuk? I hope you can fire arrows etc with the Wiimot, kind of like in Icarian/NyxQuest on wiiware.

You don't have to hold the stick down, just clicking it once is enough.

Just tried off-TV play, and yes, it was awesome. Was like playing a handheld.

Great feature.

Mad when you think that you could basically enjoy the entire Wii U experience - most, or all the games released over the next 4 years - in a handheld format.

I noticed something odd when posting on Miiverse...

the phrase "god of war" is flagged as inappropriate... you can't say "Yeah, but Ares was god of war..." The censorship is getting out of had, are they that worried that someone may passively mention some elses product?

Don't get me wrong, I love my Wii U... I'm posting from it now...

but damn... I may just switch over to purely handwritten responses...

Did not post in this thread until now because I was previously unable to express my satisfaction adequately...

Really starting to fear that I won't ever finish ZombiU. I can't find a time when I'm not tired from getting home from work or getting home from doing things after work or stressed in general to play. As that game makes me feel stressed when I'm done playing it. My pattern at launch was to play ZomibU and to follow it up with some Nintendo Land for a significant change of mood. The two games were a combo for me. I think it's going to be put off to the side until I take some vacation days in the spring and then try to marathon the game during the middle of the days.

So anyone picking up Rayman Legends at the end of Feb? Been seriously considering it, especially if I finish NSMBU in the next week or two. However with Monster Hunter, Lego City Undercover, Etrian Odyssey IV and Pandora's Tower coming around the same time I wonder if I should wait. Those last two I think need to be bought sooner rather then later as I expect them both to be limited runs. Also doesn't help that EOIV is out the same day as Rayman Legends.

Well I got an email back from Nintendo a couple of hours after my first post. The repair number says it's shipped and will take 2-3 business days to get back. I shipped it through Purolator on the 24th. I'm impressed at the turnaround time. I've always had positive experiences when calling their contact center or dealing with Nintendo. Kudos to them.

It didn't give me details as to what was fixed other than Warranty = Yes, Cost = 175.00, Total = 0. So covered under warranty, but what would cost 175.00? The motherboard? I can't think of anything else in the console that cost that much, unless they are including labor?

Edit: On a side note, what does it take to become a member and to lose junior member? Post count?

Edit edit: @Deviljho Awesome .gif btw!

I'll be getting Rayman Legends when it comes out. Demo is awesome and my wife is totally excited about it. Enjoyed what I played of it and I'll give Ubisoft my money since no one else seems to want it. :)
