Wii U Satisfaction Thread

I just want to state that using the Gamepad with Batman:Arkham City has been absolutely blissful. I love what this has done for this game. From maps to bios to tech updates to sonar to Alfred's voice and other intel, it IS like having Batman's arm computer in my hands. Joy!!!

I'm not exacly what I would call satisfied presently (by any means).

However, I am sure once the really good games start dropping later this year (fingers crossed) I will be very pleased indeed.

I like the GamePad, so much. Coming back from work, grabbing it, watching what I missed on GAF, launching a game while my girls watch TV. I like it, so much.

THIS. I did this last night for the first time with my WiiU. I booted up Super Metroid and my daughter watched some mickey mouse cartoon. When it ended I flipped it to cable box control and started another one and went back to playing.

MY GOD ITS BEAUTIFUL

I understand some people will never use this feature but in my house its like the best thing ever.

I just bought ACIII, mainly because of all the praise about playing it without the HUD on the big screen, but I ended up playing it laying on the couch on my gamepad. So damn convenient.

Glad to see many people enjoy this feature. And you can´t get it somewhere else.

not without spending a hefty amount of money

So it really ISN'T the same game. :D

Reggie was right after all! :P
(still waiting for the price to drop further, already paid twice for this game...)

One of my next games on my list, waiting for a price drop on the eshop.

I just tried to RE Revelations demo today, and I wasn't able to run. I kept pressing the Left stick, but Jill will keep on walking. It doesn't work doing both control schemes. Is there something wrong with my gamepad?

EDIT: Also are there current demos right now where I can test pressing both the L and R sticks? I don't think Nintendoland does that, it's my only full game. Rayman Legends doesn't do it either, I think. Help me guys, I'm kind of worried.

I just played a TON of NSMBU with my wife today. We've been playing it off and on since launch. It really is a long game if you try to get all the coins.

I know the art style gets no love since it wore out its welcome, but it sure is a pretty game.

Of my 20+ years of gaming WiiU has taken the title of most hours spent on a single console game. I played 150 hours of MH3U and still can see another solid 50 hours to get all the stuff I wanted. In comparison I spent close to 100 hours on FF13 to get platinum, and about 120 hours on Skyrim.

Totally agree with this! I loved playing through this again on my Wii U, can't wait for Arkham Origins now!

Not really sure what you mean. Pressing or pushing? Are you sure she was walking? She only walks if you barely move the stick.

As for the demo question, ZombiU?

Here is an official Nintendo site that you can surf from the WiiU gamepad to test that all the controls are functioning:

http://www.nintendo.com/wiiu/built-in-software/browser-specs/sample/

Edit: Most likely you just booted the console while pressing a control stick and the calibration suffered...reboot with gamepad on flat surface while not touching anything to solve this.

I thought I have to click the left stick to run. Hmm probably just read the controls wrong.

Wow that's a very helpful website where I can test everything! Thankfully nothing's wrong. Thanks for the share!

I really dont understand how people dont talk about this more often. The game pad is perfect for open world games. It makes a huge difference.

Welcome to mh addiction.

You don't need to reboot. As usual, there's a trick to reset the neutral position of sticks on Nintendo console.

On the Upad, it's pressing A, B, (+) and (-) for X seconds. I think it's recalibrating the gyroscope neutral, also, so it should probably lay idle on a flat surface.

Sometimes, upon loading of the Miiverse, in my Avatar place there is a blue question mark..
No big deal, but how can i fix it?

Also, someone posted that you can turn the Rumble on and off...Is that possible??
I checked the Settings, but to no avail....
It seems that i have forgotten that there is rumble in the Gamepad.:)

YES!! I've expressed my enthusiasm for this version of the game, totally worth owning for U owners looking to get a little more use out of the pad.

Yeah, my girlfriend and I went through most of the game, then went back to get all the coins. There's a ton of content in that game, and it really does look great.

I'm backing this one up. It's frustrating to play when in Off-TV mode and I have to keep pausing the game to see other screens. Although Reggie's "It's not the same game" spiel was the essence of hyperbole, I do find having resources moved to a second monitor incredibly preferable in this particular instance.

Zombi U is next on my list for games that use this general sort of idea. The neat thing, I think, is that if having items moved to the GamePad screen isn't such a great thing, I have the backup of being able to enjoy the Off-TV play (unless I just don't like the game!).

That said, while I'm almost done with the game (including Harley's extra episode but coming up just short of getting to the Riddler, and I think that I never got that face-stealing killer), I may have to immerse myself in Metroid 3 for a while before moving on.

I finally caved and bought one. I went to go take advantage of the online deal in a Target store. Unfortunately my Basic came bricked and I returned it. I ended up paying the extra for a nice black WiiU. I'm waiting for the update to install and report back later. I picked up MarioU along with the packed in NintendoLand.

I wouldn't say that is unfortunate, the Deluxe version is better than the standard. That 32GB of Flash, the charging cradle/stand and Nintendoland make it worth the extra cost.

So I finally got a WiiU for my birthday yesterday! Got the deluxe set and have been playing around with Nintendoland (which is surprisingly awesome), but I haven't picked up any other games yet. What would you all recommend as two or three must haves for the system? I'm definitely going to pick up NSMBU and was thinking about grabbing MH and NFS with it, but I'd appreciate some outside input as well.
You should def get NFS and NSMB U. If you like real survival horror ZombieU is a must. Its a really awesome game. Trine2 and Nano Assault Neo should get you started with the eshoo oh and Super Metroid is .30 cents right now...a must buy.

The Virtual Console games being released at a fairly steadily rate at this point are making the wait for new games much easier.

I get the same thing. I remember back at launch I did have my avatar on there. Now since months ago it is just a blue question mark.

No fix through Miiverse updates at all.

At least I know I'm not alone.

:(

First problem is an internet server burp...sometimes posts will show as a '?' too, if you are really lagging.

Second issue: Home->tap controller settings->tap pad settings->tap rumble

NSMBU is surprisingly fun and challenging. I'm only past the first miniboss of world one but I like it. I hear the challenge picks up as the game goes on. I was sort of afraid it'd be as easy as NSMB2 on the 3DS. I just wish the soundtrack was better. I'm a massive fan of the Super Mario World music.

Nintendoland is surprisingly fun. It looked boring in the E3 demos from last year. I've been playing solo so far. I wish there was online capabilities for it. That's the one area Nintendo dropped the ball for that.

ZombiU and Lego Cities are on my list of things to get.

Overall I'm really happy with this console. Definitely glad I got the Delux after hearing that the massive update would leave me with little room on the basic. The stand is nice, too.

At regular price yes. The Basic was $240 though so it doesn't seem worth $110 dollars more to me. Really either way you are going to get a HDD eventually.

Dunno either way people just need to buy the thing.

Yes it's kinda hard and it gets even better. Be sure also to try the proper Challenges section, dat shit is godly platforming.

I'm loving BC. Playing a bunch of games I missed out on beforehand while waiting for the heavy hitters. Playing Pikmin for the first time, as I missed it on Gamecube and Wii. Such a beautiful game, and I'm loving the Wii Remote controls.

I just bought ACIII, mainly because of all the praise about playing it without the HUD on the big screen, but I ended up playing it laying on the couch on my gamepad. So damn convenient.

Wait, is AC3 different than most ACs? Because I've played all of them up to 3 and they always have options to disable all HUD elements. I just disable everything except the minimap, makes the screen far less cluttered.

That would be a pity if they had removed that feature from AC3. I really like games that give you more control over audio and HUD and things like that.

Just got my Wii U last night, I absolutely adore it so far. I don't have any games other than Nintendo Land and the Rayman app, but I've kind of fallen in love with the system for reasons other than I was anticipating honestly. Despite all the crap Nintendo has received over Wii U, I actually think certain aspects of it are very forward thinking.

I seriously can't wait for the end of the year though. Rayman Legends, Luigi U, Mario Kart 8, Sonic: Lost World, Bayonetta 2, and Wind Waker HD would seriously probably be good enough for me. A potential new 3D Mario and the new Retro game would be icing on the cake. Oh, and Earthbound on Virtual Console. It's gonna be a good year for the console!

After Microsoft's conference, I've gained a new appreciation for my Wii U. Lately I've just been falling in love with the thing. Maybe it's Super Metroid, or Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate that's turned me around. Maybe I've been getting into drawing in Miiverse or playing Wii hidden gems using backwards compatability. I don't know.

It's probably just the ability watch most anime and TV show streaming sites in the browser. Best thing ever.

Just get Assasin Creed 3 40$ from the store last week love it.

And for This week i enjoyed Sniper V2 love this game type .

I wish Eidos make Tomb Raider & Hitman for Wii U some day.

And I hope in next update nintendo mention Single+Party Chat & Text cross play.

You've been holding out for those 2 games for a long time now. Do you not have other systems that you can play them on?

2 Yellow light PS3 & 2 Red Light Xbox 360 X,X

And i don't have Good PC only MAC mini.

The problem I will wait for PS4 and it's without Backwards.

Me and my wiiu have been doing really well! :) i enjoy all its features, especially miiverse, and i cant wait for nintendo's supposed fall releases. So overall im pretty satisifed so far.

I would be more satisfied if the eShop releases were uniform. Not getting Mega Man X this week was annoying, but being in Australia I am still waiting on Bit Trip Runner 2. Bah!

I feel ya. I'm still waiting on Trine 2 (and every other indie game except Nano Assault) in Japan.

Finally got my registration approved this week and am glad to be able to add some Wii U positivity to the forum.

A few months ago I had never even entertained getting a Wii U. Far too expensive and wasn't offering me anything I felt I needed (already have PS3 & 360). Then whilst lurking here waiting for my registration approval I read about the deal at HMV. Premium edition with NintendoLand and Zombi U for £200. Felt it was well worth a gamble at that price so 24 hrs later I had a shiny new box next to my TV.

Wow. I love it. I'm genuinely surprised how much I'm enjoying it. Zombi U felt really janky at first, but after slowing down a bit and treating it more like a survival horror it really clicked and I had a lot of fun with it.

Then I picked up Trine 2 in the eShop sale for £3.50. Had never heard of it but after playing I'd have paid full price. Awesome, awesome game and one of the best looking things I've ever played.

Now growing up I was a Sega boy. I've played maybe 20 mins lifetime on a NES, and had only one friend in school and one at uni that had a SNES. Loved it, but the games I've played on that system are basically limited to SF2, Final Fight, Bomberman and Mario Kart.

I've now had the pleasure of playing Super Mario World and Super Metroid for the first time in my life thanks to the VC. 2d platformers are way down on my list of favourite genres, but even I appreciated Mario for the masterpiece it is, even if the cape kind of breaks the game a little. And Super Metroid... well. It's Super fucking Metroid.

However my Nintendo ignorance was once so staggering that even though I got a Gamecube last gen as a 3rd console, I only bought Metroid Prime because it got a high review score, I didn'r realise it was 3d take on a classic game.

Anyway, after loving Super Metroid, I really got the itch to play Prime again. Was pretty sure there was a Wii version, and a quick google told me there was a Trilogy version. Borrowed a Wiimote from a friend and ordered me some Prime goodness.

For the most part, I hate motion controls, and they're why I skipped on the Wii (made sure to borrow one from that same friend to polish off Zelda, Galaxy 1&2 though) I probably need to play more games, but the bowling on Wii sports were the only time where I felt the control was more intuitve (and more importantly, more fun) than any method used by a standard controller.

Man was I wrong. The pointer controls in Prime are FANTASTIC. I was blown away by how intuitive they are. General movement just feels completely natural within seconds of picking up the controller.

Am now maybe a quarter of the way through Echoes, have just started Zack & Wiki (£6 used), Pikmin Wii Version is in the post (£7 used) and I just bought Toki Tori 2 in the sale.

Off the top of my head I also have Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil REmake (Wii versions) and Xenoblade Chronicles to look forward to.

And finally, something that has been a completely unexpected surprise is just how much I use the browser. It's phenomenal. I love how easy it is to navigate and use with just the pad controls if you don't want to use the touchscreen (and I tend to avoid that when I can - gleaming clean screen ftw), and the ability to plav video on the TV whilst browsing the pad is great. Video tends to be much more stable on my pad than my aging laptop, so it's great for video reviews, lets's plays etc. Support for Twitch TV would be facemeltingly good - anyone know if this is ever likely?

I love my Wii U. I completely understand the crticism it's getting for having no games, and the ridiculous prices of it's retail and VC games (£5 is a bit steep for SNES games, but £3.50 for NES games is just crazy talk, especially when compared to the prices of of PS1&2 games on PSN), but I've been lucky in that it's opened up a library of amazing games that I'd missed out on. If this time next year I only have like 1 or 2 more Wii U titles I probably won't be any near as enthusiastic, but for now I'm enjoying the hell out of it.
