Wii U Speculation Thread 2: Can't take anymore of this!!!

Well, Other M wasn't bad, but I think we all agree that it was way below the standards of a Metroid game.

Anyway, I'm really curious to see if Nintendo will surprise us by going after some exclusive AAA western titles. I wouldn't hold my breath, but it'd be an excellent move in order to create a more "hardcore" profile for the console.

Great games to showcase the power of the Wii U would be Wave Race, F-Zero, 1080° so they make great lunch titles. But since all of those count as "racing" we won't get them at the same time.

Sooooo, if Wii U is released in summer, Wave Race should be launch title (And F-zero in September) , if it's released in winter 1080° should be the one and F-Zero for March 2013 :P

Zelda Majora's Mask HD release date: 19-12-2012 :3

hi guys. newbie here. thanks for accepting me to da family. i just hope that the wii u gets great 3rd party content similar to what 3ds has, but more. i'm excited to see how zelda, mario, samus, and pikmin look like and play with the new controller and updated graphics!!! cant wait!!! i want more!!!

I wonder what the oldest port* will be, and if the publisher will have the audacity to charge full price for it. I can't wait for the Wii U version of Splinter Cell: Double Agent!

*Not including HD updates or remakes

Out of announced games, Arkham City.
It better be a GotY and be only $50 max.
It'll be nearly a year old by then.

What do you guys think are the chances to see ports of old games
to allow only-nintendo-fans to catch up with franchises coming to Wii U.
ie. Assassins Creed, Batman, Darksiders or GTA to name a few?

I was thinking about this the other day because not knowing the story
about some games would be a huge factor to not getting the new installments
especially for those who never played said games on any console but are interested on them.

I could see them maybe doing bundles, like they bundled the first AC with the PS3 version of Revelations.

No. It actually did suck. In fact, I can't think of any other "big name" Nintendo franchise with a canon-entry game that was as sloppy or as lackluster as Other M.

Star Fox Adventures? Star Fox Assault? Yoshi's Story? Donkey Kong 64? To name a few. Obviously Zelda and Metroid have 3 decades worth of "nerd police" who use the internet to remind us what is allowed and not allowed in the respective franchises. Metroid: Other M was an ambitious game that treadded some uncharted waters. The production and writing was messy and the design was sometimes clumsy and uninspired. But then you get into this hyperbole and all this sexist talk. WTF.

probably pretty good considering how third parties like to sell old games on xbl and psn.

Sounds like people watched youtube playthroughs.

The game plays so smooth and feels good in your own hands.

Well that's true, and I own the game myself. Story's a bit chatty but it's not even a big offender in that regard compared to other games I've played. Actual gameplay itself is pretty damn good. I actually hope they make another like it, probably on the 3DS, with a small note on the document saying "Cutscenes: Less is More."

I predict Nintendo will have at least one new IP they will push for the HD COD crowd at e3.

Metroid: Space Federation

You play as Anthony Higgs. Officer in the United Space Federation. Trying to bring peace and justice to the galaxy, torn apart by the Space Pirates and rogue bounty hunters.
This time, you will remember him...

Darksiders 2 and Arkham city have been already announced, along with an Assassins creed title exclusive to WiiU that is quite likely to come as far as I know, and GTA5 has not been revealed on any platforms yet.

He's talking about the first games. Arhkam Asylum and Darksiders 1. Also, AC is likely AC3.

I admit I haven't tried Other M based mostly on GAF dislike, I'm always pushing it in my Wii backlog. I don't have anything after Rhythm Heaven as I imported Xenoblade so maybe I'll search for it.

Metroid m was almost good .. Just needed more time I think. It had me up until the last boss fights which threw the difficulty up 200 notches.

Naaah... :D

Metroid should always be this amazing singleplayer game where you explore a world full of unknown cultures and unexplored mysteries; there are just a handful franchises like this one which work perfectly without multiplayer.

Didn't Miyamoto say that he would like to create a more mature game?

It would be awesome if the Wii U can do cross-play with PC, aka Origin and Steam players. Nintendo did say they're willing to adapt their online for third parties online services.

I was talking about previous games, I know these are coming to Wii U, except for GTA but I think it's likely.

Naaaah, it's a great game... maybe not a great Metroid game but it's definitely worth it
the mechanics are well done and the story (despite some hate) imo, is well narrated, not oscar worthy, but it doesn't break the gameplay either. You definitely have to play it, overall it's fun

For that matter, an Arkham asylum, Darksiders and Assassins creed collection GOTY editions would be much appreciated as far as I'm concerned, and they may hopefully arrive to reinforce WiiU's line-up, whereas personally I wouldn't bother about GTA old games as 5th may arrive in the foreseeable future, I would like Red dead redemption GOTY instead.

Also, AC is likely AC3.

Yeah, although I recall Ubisoft was quite ambiguous in its statement at last E3.

Third Parties will be idiotic to not release of their big games coming to P360 this winter season along with a WiiU version.

I can safely say that WiiU will be my choice of multiplatform games this winter if they do upgrade their games to WiiU.

hell all they have to do is run better.

Only if they "fix" the whole..bullshit of the first one on Wii that only let you download/share created tracks... with people on your friends list. Such a shame for such an awesome game on Wii; at least right now is quite cheap.

I never played any of the games nor the Wii version, It just seems too... bite-sized for a racer. Races seem to last for a mere minute, maybe not even at times.

Am I giving it the wrong judgement?

Has this interview to Miyamoto been posted on GAF?

Looking ahead, as part of the release of the Wii U, you’ll be working on Pikmin 3. Are you excited to bring that back as part of the new console?
Originally, I was making Pikmin 3 would be launched on the Wii platform. Because the Wii U is capable of HD quality pictures, and will be accompanied by the subscreen on your hand. I thought that I would be able to make a Pikmin that was closer to my ideal. I am now actually enjoying myself, working on the game.

I read it a while ago, but it really didn't tell us anything we didn't learn at E3.

The implication that Capcom makes games anymore is silly enough as-is.

.... Monster Hunter ?

they've pushed the 3DS hard, they've pushed other systems pretty hard too.
I suspect if the machine launches in Japan at the back end of Summer, they'll bring someting :O looking

(or some shitty X360 cross ports)

- Nintendo shows a bunch of ho-hum looking launch games.
- Pikmin 3 looks great, but gets delayed from launch.
- Cool stuff from Retro and others. None playable, all TBA.
- Third party current gen ports, including super old ports.
- No shown game looks any better than current gen stuff.
- Online is improved significantly, but something still holds it back.

There we go. Realistic expectations!

The story is the only weak part of Other M. The gameplay and controls are spot on, well minus the sections where you have to find something looking in FP mode. It controls super smoothly and by the end of the game you're dodging, shooting, and killing things like you would expect Samus to.

They tried to experiment a bit with how you go about acquiring items through out the game. So instead of an explosion knocking out half her suit, you have her agreeing to work with the GF forces, which means she has a commanding officer and has to listen to him as to what she can and can't use on this ship.

It's very much an evolution of what was done in Fusion, and folks saying otherwise are just sticking their heads in the sand going lalalalalalala. If you play Fusion, and then play Other M, the similarities and evolution of ideas becomes blatantly obvious.

I personally would love another Metroid game using the Other M engine. Just get rid of the hand holding seen in Other M and Fusion, take out the FP mode (for missile use and looking for something) and put Samus on a planet again. I would love to see "Metroid Dread" finally come out say for the 3DS using the Other M engine.

This is coming from some one who has loved the Metroid series since the NES one. Don't listen to the hyperbole, and play the game.

That said, as much as I love, love, love the Prime series, I want Retro making something different for their first Wii-U game. They seem to do 2 games a generation, so let them make something different first, and then a new MP. Give them a break from the Metroid world so they can refresh, and develop new skills and come back to it even stronger.

As I've said many many many times on this board I really want to see Retro do Star Tropics for the Wii-U. They have an amazing skill and talent at creating believable worlds. I think they would do a better job with that, then them handling something like Zelda. I think they would be wasted on doing a racing game like F-Zero.

i fixed a load of errors for everyone. Don't thank me all at once.

Sadly Capcom is a dried up, hallow rotting husk of their former self. If this was Capcom circa the 5th or 6th generation of consoles (ie PS1/Saturn/N64 - Xbox/GC/PS2), then yeah I would agree with you. After their output this generation though, not so much.

It's unlikely that I would purchase a Wii U at or near launch, but I would be sorely tempted if F-Zero were brought back.

I'd buy a WiiU at launch, no questions asked. F-Zero GX is my 2nd favorite game of all time and I'm pissed there hasn't been a console entry since then >:|

The only game I really want to see pushed for a launch title for Wii U is a Mario Paint like that uses every feature of the console meticulously. You could do some stupidly awesome shit with something as full featured as that along with Wii U's interface and it would be great to show off some of the stuff the controller can do.

This and F-Zero, and I would club an army of moms to get a Wii U at launch.

In fact, Mario Paint should come with the thing.

"And we are pleased to announce... wait, what is Tetsuya Nomura doing here?"

nomura_1.png

"Hello. I'd like to make public the announcement of Kingdom Hearts III, Chrono Break, and Final Fantasy VII remake for the new console. We hope gamers everywhere will enjoy these titles."

Iwata.jpg

"Wait, were we going to announce those? I don't remember that."

Tetsuya-nomura.jpg

"Oh shit. Iwata? I thought this was the Xbox 720 conference. Excuse me."

"Well, that was pretty awkward."

As a small retrospective as I've seen discussions about launch titles, here's the launch lineup for Wii:
  • Barnyard (THQ)
  • Call of Duty 3 (Activision)
  • Cars (THQ)
  • Crayon Shin-chan: Saikyou Kazoku Kasukabe King Wii (Banpresto)
  • Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 (Atari)
  • Elebits (Konami)
  • Ennichi no Tatsujin (Namco)
  • Excite Truck (Nintendo)
  • Gottlieb Pinball Classics (Crave Entertainment)
  • GT Pro Series (Ubisoft)
  • Happy Feet (Midway)
  • Kororinpa (Hudson)
  • Madden NFL 07 (Electronic Arts)
  • Marvel: Ultimate Alliance (Activision)
  • Monster 4x4 World Circuit (Ubisoft)
  • Necro-Nesia (Spike)
  • Need for Speed: Carbon (Electronic Arts)
  • Odoru Made in Wario (Nintendo)
  • Rampage: Total Destruction (Midway)

  • Trauma Center: Second Opinion (Atlus)
  • Wii Play (Nintendo)
  • Wii Sports (Nintendo)
  • Wing Island (Nintendo)
This is for all regions, not only North America or Europe specifically. However, to put this in a perhaps better perspective, what can be mentioned is that in North America 3 first-party titles and 17 third-party games were available on launch day November 19th. An additional thirteen titles including Metal Slug Anthology and Far Cry: Vengeance were released during the launch window (five weeks after launch).

I wonder if we will see an astonishing twenty titles at launch. I know Mr. Iwata made comments during the Third Quarter Financial Results Briefing for the 72nd Fiscal Term Ending March 2012 on how Nintendo wants to prevent a similar scenario to the Nintendo 3DS launch, and for Wii U deliver as compelling software as possible. And surely they want to combat PS Vita's launch with 25 titles on day one. The question is however what the majority of these titles will consist of, will there be mostly ports of games from 2010 and 2011 or original titles that make good use of the Wii U remote and its distinctive features?

Ubermatik's suggestions for Wii U launch titles in post #6387 of this thread make sense with a few minor exceptions (Super Mario Universe, Metroid Prime 4 and Half Life 3 can probably be ruled out for launch day and launch window). Personally I'm most interested in what will be in store for the Virtual Console (Gamecube games specifically) at launch day, though I will of course purchase some packaged goods title.
