Wii U Speculation Thread 2: Can't take anymore of this!!!

Man, I was away for an hour, then two new pages popped out filled with "HD screens." So we're on that stage of "GDC depression" now, I see.

Dude that is horrible. I remember when I was in high school and E3 was usually at the beginning of May, which every year coincided with spring training for the football season. So every year (for four years) I would go to school at 8:00 AM and not get home until like 7:30 PM. At the time I was just excited to get the information, but I missed the amazing E3 2004 Nintendo conference (Twilight Princess reveal) and 2006 Nintendo E3 Press Conference (Wii unveiling) LIVE. :/

But yeah this year my summer classes begin early June, and I'll make sure that I can afford to miss a few of those early classes lol. Hopefully you don't have a final DURING the actual Nintendo Press Conference this year....
I was the opposite, because I also had finals on early June during high school. Now it sucks that my university has June finals as well. I got lucky last year that the Nintendo conference was the day before I had my first exam. Hopefully it's the same.

Hey there !

A preview of Mario Tennis Open

The interesting part for Wii U:

Two things stand out, the first of which is Dynamic View. Hold the 3DS at eye level, and the game automatically switches to an over the shoulder perspective. From here, you're able to use the gyroscope to look around, while your character automatically moves towards the ball; all you have to do is hit that sucker back over the net. Think of this as a more simplified way to play the game, a feature that'll no doubt appeal to newcomers.

With the gyro & camera, we should expect such features on some Wii U games, an automated switch to a FPS view when you move the padlet up to eyes level.

We saw the sniper zoom in this screen on Ghost Recon, it's a different application here.

And an article about the Dragon Quest X job system

how long would it take Nintendo to HDfy this for my WiiU?

they could do a director's cut and add the missing dungeons and some new quests and features without killing the charm of this beast

It sounds like they reused a lot of the dungeon concepts already in TP and SS. I wouldn't mind a couple of new dungeons and some serious edits to the pace of the second half of the game. Triumph Forks, Tingle Charts etc etc. Maybe even get reduce the game world to 6x6 or 5x5. A lot could be done to improve the flow of this game.

EDIT: Tingle doesn't have to be gone, just ignorable.

Concerning the Retro speculation, personally I hope they aren't working on another Metroid or Donkey Kong. While I know that employee turnover is common within the western side of the industry Retro have lost a lot of great talent that burned out on reviving and developing Nintendo franchises under the watchful eye of executives in Japan. While Metroid Prime 2 was a great game Retro's original ideas in pre-production that showed heavy influences from Marathon and System Shock seemed like a fascinating turn for the series.

More staff left after the completion of Donkey Kong Country Returns. I think it would be a shame for Nintendo to continue their strict control over the studio. Retro should be allowed some autonomy over themselves by this point. Returns was their biggest success yet. They should by now have earned some trust to develop something they truly want to do, whether that is Zelda or something brand new. Nintendo could greatly compliment their catalogue with a strong title that has western design philosophies at its core.

Once any other company announces the spec, they spend all their time talking about how much better their specs are. If Nintendo doesn't release them, they can stay out of that game.
Very true, but I wonder if this time with their he's start they might mention specs due to them being way better than current gen. Of course they would have to stop once MS and Dony release but it might work for a bit.

Dunno how long, but I want it.

Who's making Version 3 of this thread?
Some lunatic!

But that's how first party Nintendo game will probably look on Wii U.

so get used to it ;)

Yeah im not arguing Nintendo's capabilities. I think they are extremely capable of achieving stellar visuals. I was referencing people saying Mario Galaxy is some type of graphical height for the system.

1080p Dolphin Shots? Really Nibel? Really man? Thats not what Mario Galaxy looks like on my 1080p Plasma not even close.

But these pics show how this game could look like on better hardware without playing around if with the assets themselves of course. No reason to act grumpy, champ.

Miyamoto on Wii U power: “So I don’t know that we would be able to sit here and say that it’s going to necessarily dramatically outperform the systems that are out now. It’s part of the balance that we strike in terms of trying to find entertainment that is new and unique.”

I'll just leave this here since Nintendo fans never seem to learn.

Ahhh Nibel sorry man I didn't mean to sound like a grump I was just coming from a different pov on Mario Galaxy. Like I said above though I think Nintendo is more than capable when it comes to graphical splendor if they have the resources available.

This means jack shit.

Where's Ace when you need him.

Hey, I'm in it! Woo!

And the Spy face on that samurai is hilarious.

That was quite a while ago. Some reports tell us the Wii U is quite a bit more powerful than we think.

obviously the ninjas made him say that.

No problem, but compared to other Wii games I think it looks outstanding. What Wii games would you describe as graphical powerful?

That's an old quote but the better question would be, what's wrong with you?

I really hope Nintendo puts in enough for the system to run ue4. From epic's current comments, sounds like its not going to be scalable for previous gen systems, and if Nintendo wants to continue to get multiplatform games on this thing in the next 5 years, they need UE4, even at the smallest denominator

This unnanounced Retro game is killing me.. it could be:

- Metroid Prime/ new Metroid game, maybe 3rd Person
- Donkey Kong Country Returns 2
- "Dead" Nintendo Franchise rebirth
- A own IP

The last one won't happen, though.

If the hint was "Something everyone wants them to do," a quick search of message boards narrows the field down to:

- Metroid Prime 4
- New Metroid 3D Game that is not in First Person
- Donkey Kong Country Returns Again
- 3D Donkey Kong Game
- Next Main Zelda
- Zelda Spin Off
- Kid Icarus
- Star Fox
- F-ZERO
- Star Tropics revival
- Mach Rider revival
- Raven Blade restarted
- Original IP FPS

So it there's only a handful of things they could be doing ...

3 months sure is a long way to go...

Thankfully i'll have Mass Effect 3 and Xenoblade to keep me busy in march and april. Maybe it wont be so bad. Days go by so fucking fast with ME3 already. I want to see my high res Marios, Zeldas, Smashs, Metroids and everything else dammit.

Calling either Metroid Prime 4 or StarFox. I can see them working on Zelda for 3DS too.

Right, what does Miyamoto know anyway.

What he knows that you don't seem to is that nothing concrete on the Wii U's power has been released by Nintendo themselves since E3 obviously a lot can change by then. I admire your attempt to stir up the pot that is this thread though.

You forgot about Wave Race.

Wait till you play Xenoblade Chronicles. A whole month gone.

Guys I hate to be the bearer of "keep your expectations in check", but... keep your expectations in check.

It's more powerful than a current gen console, *obviously* but I wouldn't expect it to be as powerful as, say, the PS4 (releasing at a later date with a higher TDP target will do that) or a high end PC or something.

I'd have figured that much is pretty obvious at this point. It's not going to blow you away, as Miyamoto says (well OK Nintendo software finally in HD may do that) - but it's going to be a step up from the other consoles you're playing now.
