Wii U Speculation Thread 2: Can't take anymore of this!!!

I just thought of something. What if there were cheaper games on eShop that could only be played on the tablet, for example iOS type of games, would that be okay with you? One screen, pen control, $10 at the most.

I'd like that, I hope we see lots of iOS ports on WiiU as eShop downloads. I know Nintendo don't like $1 games but there are many games on App Store that are a bit more expensive that I think would fit WiiU nicely.

For example. I want Inotia 2 on WiiU, it works perfectly as it is on iPad with Diablo style touch where you want to go interface. It would be okay if it played on the TV too I guess, with inventory screen on the controller. But I kind of like the Diablo style controls on iPad.

I'd also like to see Square Enix's Chaos Rings. Great game, often regarded as being too expensive on iOS. Would probably do better on WiiU eShop.

For a home console game I can't play on the TV? Why wouldn't I just go buy something from 3DS eShop and not be limited in where I play it?

EDIT: As long as it's a port that could only count on single-touch, no reason it shouldn't work with wiimote+nunchuk on TV.

I think assuming a Nintendo console owner has a Nintendo portable is a safer bet than that somebody has a home console and really wants to play mobile games while sitting next to it, but doesn't own a 3DS, smartphone, or tablet.

So far we can only judge the launch of the WiiU by third party efforts:

Announced games most likely within the launch window:

Aliens: CM
Assassin's Creed
Batman: AC
Battlefield
Darksiders 2
Dirt
Dragon Quest
F1
Killer Freaks
Lego City
Metro: LL
Ninja Gaiden 3
pCars
Tekken
Ghost Recon Online
Marvell Pinball
Sonic

Unannounced games within the window:
RE:6
GTA5
CoD

Now earlier some of you mentioned that Nintendo needed to come out with at least 3 of their own titles to be valued at $349. That worries me, because If this line up was for the Xbox3, I think many would be doing back-flips and praising this as the best launch ever, and you would be gladly dropping $399 for it... again.

Now add in possible Nintendo titles.

A core/mature title from possibly Retro or Monolith
A mainstream title like Mario
A bridge title from any of the 2nd party developers
A tech title like WiiSports

With so many games possibly coming out for 2012
I think Nintendo will definitely bring the console out earlier so that third parties
can space out their titles and not directly compete with Nintendo. This is situation is not like the 3DS. There are plenty of different types of games to satisfy a wide variety of consumers.

Down the road:

No More Heroes
Project Nova
THQ game 1
THQ game 2
Sega (All Star Racing?)
Ubisoft hardcore FPS
Ubisoft multi-sports game

Bigger screen, higher resolution, more power. Kind of like playing on iPad rather than iPhone, which I do whenever I can.

Was Battlefield actually announced? I just thought it was a passing comment. Also, would rather avoid this - no need to have 1+ year late PS360 titles, only for the publisher to complain about lack of sales later.

Give me the best console version of Skyrim GOTY edition on launch please.

OMG all the menu stuff on the controller. The menus on Skyrim kinda sucked to be honest.

Can someone post a comparison of the Wii U console, and the new stripped down cheap Wii? Just wondering how similar they are in terms of size? Apart from the Wii U looking a bit more "rounded" I think they look fairly similar.

I have heavy doubts that stuff like Batman or Battlefield are actually coming to the Wii U. That E3 sizzle reel was a generic "these are the sort of things you can expect to come to Wii U" rather than a "year-old PS360 ports coming soon!" attempt, IMO. That would badly damage the console in the eyes of the public, IMO, offering nothing but new spins on games they've already played. I highly doubt we're going to be seeing the likes of Skyrim on Wii U, too.

Mind you, give me a BioShock Collection for Wii U, and I'll be all over that.

I just hope they include one wiimote plus.
Same here, not including a Wiimote would pretty much kill all hope for pointer control in WiiU titles, devs can't rely on all WiiU owners still having a Wii left or kept the controller when selling their Wii.

Top 2011 titles would make for great launch day filler. Also publishers might demand them to release BF3 etc if Nintendo want BF4 on the Wii U.

I am all for dropping the wiimote entirely. It all but killed Zelda SS for me and that is my favorite series of all time! :(

A few months back there was a joblisting flying around about a dev working on the Wii U version of Batman AC. I'm expecting the Game of the Year edition to appear on Wii U.

About halfway down this article is a comparison in scale with dimensions:
http://en.wikinoticia.com/Technology/games/87653-details-of-the-new-nintendo-wii-console-u

I believe it uses the original Wii for dimensions.

Wii- 44 mm (H) x 157 mm (W) x 215 mm (L)

Wii U- 45 mm (H) x 172 mm (W) x 267 mm (L)

You know what would be amazing?
Suda 51 walks on stage and Iwata announces that Nintendo is publishign the next No More Heroes for the Wii U.
Mmmm, give me!

Rocksteady has been very excited about the Wii U, and EA is making huge pushes with Nintendo.
They're both coming.
And I really doubt that Skyrim won't make it.

What are the chances of Nintendo rebranding the Wii U, after the 3DS confusion?

If Iwata were to come to your door and personally ask you to rebrand the Wii U to prevent confusion, how would you do it? Redesign the actual console? Change the name and logo? Drop Wii Remote support?

Excitement doesn't get you games. They're going to look at this from a case by case basis. Does Need for Speed 2012 makes sense as a game to release on Wii U? yes! The ports of the fall 2012 titles like Battlefield 3? No, not at all when MOH is coming out. For Batman this is kinda different because it seems to be a launch title for July so the GOTY edition getting a Wii U release would make sense. Skyrim is a toss up, I'm leaning towards no.

Btw, if Shocking Alberto sources are right Ridge Racer will be there as well. New game or port of Unbounded has not been decided yet.

EA wil push their sports games towards the Wii U as well. Madden and FIFA at launch, the next PGA Tour game during spring. Medal of Honour 2 could happen as well.

From the front they are quite similar, the only significant difference is depth.

Port of Unbound but with only half the tracks and cars.
The rest are DLC.

They're under an obvious NDA, but they've basically said they're making Batman for the Wii U.
And isn't Battlefield going to be a yearly franchise now? Either way, I bet we'll see one pretty quick on the Wii U.

I wouldn't be sure about Battlefield, DICE latest comments on that:

"until we get that bright idea of what to do with the new controls I don't think there's any point in making another version that's just the same as everyone else." He said that while a touchscreen map was the most obvious option for a Battlefield-type game, that he would prefer something more innovative. Liu says DICE has "dabbled" with their Wii U dev kit to see what they can do with it, but they don't have anything planned for the console yet.

What makes you think EA would say that?

I think EA is going to want to test the waters for everything on the Wii U.
It's not like it'll cost a lot to port these games over. They'll see what sells and what doesn't and go from there.

They're not going to port the entire fall 2011 line-up to Wii U in the middle of 2012. That makes zero sense. EA will focus on the new games, so Need for Speed 2012, Medal of Honor 2012, EA Sports 2012 line-up and the Apps and casual games for the Wii U Controller. As soon as that is up and running they'll start looking at other things like Visceral, BioWare products, Crytek(Crysis 3?) and DICE. Remember that EA backed GameCube connectivity, Wii, 3DS and Steam and they threw them all under the bus one by one.

Eeewwww... tests. *shudders*

"Hey guys, Dead Space is coming to Wii!"

Yay!

"It's a railshooter!"

... ... ...

No idea if they'll actually do that. At most I think they'll change the design, but not the name.

If it were up to me I'd change both.

But I do think that EA is going to exploit the Wii U as leverage when talking to others. So if Nintendo's online really gets an 'anything goes' policy and they release Star Wars: TOR on it they can go to Microsoft and say: "You want that, you'd better change the way Xbox Live works for us."

So you don't even think it'll get ME3? A game that comes out this year?
All right...

I think Wii U will get a lot of Fall 2011-Spring 2012 enhanced ports, most likely with pack in DLC. Or GOTY editions where appropriate. I'd be surprised to see just straight ports though, there needs to be a reason to buy these games on Wii U and extra content (Even if it is already available on other consoles through download) and enhanced graphics does that.

It would give Nintendo a strong launch window without 3rd parties having to invest too hard, which might make said 3rd parties less worried about competing with Nintendo's own games.

I predict straight ports of "core" games and when they dont sell developers will make their typical mistakes and provide piss poor support thereafter.

If it's like Red Steel 2 then I say bring it on. RS2 was a fun game, and very underrated because of the first game. They really should have just renamed the game before release, people might have given it a chance then.

Really? I only know about Killer Freaks. Maybe another Red Steel? lol

If it plays like Red Steel 2 the HELL YES with a cherry on top please!

Edit: Shin Johnpv knows what I'm talking about!
