Wii U Speculation Thread 2: Can't take anymore of this!!!

It's not a fact that the Nextbox will not be much more powerful, but I understand the relaxation part :P
It's not a fact, but it seems likely just looking at current trends and the power envelope. It's highly likely Microsoft will try to reach a TDP well below 170W (Xbox360) for better reliability and livingroom friendliness, and almost certain Nintendo will go for significantly more then 16W. The closer the two system are in that regard, the closer they'll be in terms of performance.

*Grezzo, and pretty much. They will be Nintendo's Bluepoint.

Do we know Nintendo's relationship with Grezzo? Being picked to do OOT3D is quite an honor that I doubt Nintendo would give to just about anyone.

Arika can also be put into the port group, as they are behind the 3D Classics line IIRC.

First post here.

Don't you think a typical PC game like the announced Mount & Blade II could really work well with the wiimote/Upad combo? I'd like to see it on Wii U.

Has it been confirmed that WiiU has a internal hard drive and what size?

Rumored to be 8 gig, according to the Totillo rumor that also correctly predicted proprietary 25 gig discs. Confirmed to be compatible with SD Cards, USB Flash drives, and off-the-shelf USB hard drives.

If that's true, it's pretty much the ideal possible setup, so long as you can freely re-download anything if you lose or destroy a card/drive.

Ive been out of the loop a little while, and havent caught up on all the new info.

Anyway, what I really want to know is if we are going to be able to transfer old WiiWare and VC stuff to the WiiU?

My launch Wii broke last year and I sent it in to repair - I originally asked if they could transfer my stuff to a new unit, but customer services wouldnt allow it. I send the old one in for repair, and it still errors occasionally when trying to view save files and such. I bought a new console anyway, but am hoping against hope I will be able to get the stuff I have bought off the old one some time this year without having to install homebrew on the new one.

You could transfer DSi to 3DS, so it's certainly possible.

We don't know. You'll probably have to wait for e3

-Toy and Figurines: This is one space where Nintendo being a sort of toy company has a huge advantage. You could save character data from Smash Bros into a mini-statue to take with you. Things like Skylanders but with a Nintendo flavor. Maybe you could even order NFC tokens that look like your Mii. All in all it's a great way to pair physical goods with digital software.

The tech also works with placing items directly on top of the screen and have it interact that way.

So you can be physically moving a token or something on the Upad and it will register.

I doubt it will work like this but it's possible. NFC is usually only within 3cm or so from the contact point which isn't a whole surface. However, if the whole screen operates with a NFC transmitter then you essentially get a wacom tablet.

You just tend to state your speculation as fact, and I think that's the problem.

But I'm a junior, what do I know?
That's cute. It's like he has the new prisoner mentality of picking a fight with somebody established in order to make a name for himself.

Then states that he's just a junior to make you think he's just a previous banned user to make himself more credible. That you burnt pork?

Why else would they make it account based?
And how am I spreading incorrect information by saying it's possible?

As I understand it, the primary feature of an account-based gaming network is that you can use just one account to log into many games for online multiplay. Anything beyond that is a bonus that would have to be specifically confirmed. It seems highly likely, though, that redownloading will be possible.

Yeah, as I mentioned in the other thread, if you place 3 to 4 NFC antennae around the screen it should be able to do basic triangulation (the very short range actually helps this, due to the high signal attenuation). You won't get anything as accurate as a Wacom tablet, but it would be enough for moving figurines around on the screen.

The hover portion wouldn't be as accurate if you did this but because you have a resistive screen you know exactly where it is once it contacts. You could also do partial tracking on multiple objects too but the main benefit is you could use a Wacom style pen that has buttons and pressure sensitivity. Or do something crazy like suction-cupping additional buttons to the screen.

In theory it could handle multiple objects fine. To be honest, though, I don't see them doing the whole token/figurine tracking thing not because it's technically difficult, but rather that it'd be awkward in real-world use. Placing a token of figurine on the screen would mean you'd have to keep the controller very flat on your lap the entire time, and the screen isn't that big for this kind of thing in the first place. I think it's more suited for table-like devices like MS Surface.

A pressure sensitive stylus would be pretty nice, though, I hadn't thought of that.

In the concept video they were playing Othello or something. The idea being a multiplayer game on the controller itself. I'm sure people could take advantage of it but yeah it's a narrower use case.

I half expected them to put that into the 3DS, so I'm not getting my hopes up again! But at least there's a chance this time.

BP is probably lurking this thread and crying because he can't post at the moment.

Both the posts I quoted are worded as facts.

I think it was a reference to the "I don't know what that means, I'm just a kid" from Link's Awakening.

Nintendo still could have digital downloads tied to specific hardware and have online profiles that have nothing to do with store purchases but solely for player profiles. I don't think it has been clarified what this account is supposed to be.

Anybody want to make some Wii U Stone-Cold Locks of the Year picks for E3? The picks should not be something known or blatantly obvious.

Bad Example:
Nintendo developing a new Mario
Ubi-Soft developing Just Dance 4 for Wii U

Good Example:
Monster Games is developing a new Wave Race for Wii U
Rockstar is bringing GTA 5 to Wii U

Mine:

First-Party: Retro is in the midst of developing a Legend of Zelda-related game for Wii U.

Third Party: Valve is bringing Half-Life 3 to Wii U

Book it, quote me, put my GAF integrity on the line, and save this post for E3. :)

It's not a bad idea, IMO, either. Sell a battery pack attachment, stuff it in a backpack, and you're good to go. It works especially well with the system being so small.
I think you need a pretty big battery to power the WiiU console, or do you mean for just the controller? I think that the controller itself doesnt have any hardware to power games.

Oh? This is one of the two posts you quoted:

It is fact that you can transfer DSi to 3DS, but as for Wii to Wii-U he very clearly said it was possible. But I'd go beyond that - I'd say it's inevitable. I mean, why would Nintendo add this feature to one new game console, and not another?

Uh.
Guess I misread that "it's possible" as "it can be done" (something certain), instead of "it's a possibility".
Apologies for that.

Anyone have an good ideas for a possible renaming? I hope Nintendo actually does change the name...Wii U just sounds weird.

I was thinking of the Ultra Nintendo Entertainment System! UNES for short.

They should call it "California" or maybe even "The Breast Toucher".

(sorry, been watching The Wizard)

I thought the Nintendo Game Cube was an awesome name. How about...the Nintendo Game Prism, and make the case translucent and more prism-shaped, projecting the screen from each of the different facets to surround the player?

I’d love a new Wave Race but I’m not sure that Monster Games is the way to go. I’d very much prefer if it was developed internally. I really wish Amusement Vision was still around though, they'd do wonders with Wave Race.

What about the rumored Nintendo Stream name? or maybe there is an unknown feature that is more important than the streaming and they will name it after that.

I think anything that suggests that it is a gaming platform, even if that is what Nintendo really wants to do with it, is anathema to the product's perception.

The most successful game platforms have sold themselves as something more than just a games machine. Wii/DS were about experiences. The PlayStation was a place to play. Even the NES/SNES were about entertainment.

Given the Wii U is supposed to be the first major service oriented platform, I'd expect something neutral sounding.

I've suggested Wii2.

Bad Example:
Ubi-Soft developing Just Dance 4 for Wii U
The Wii U transforming into an automoton and then begins butt fucking Reggie on stage with him saying "My Body is always ready" while the audience watches in shock and then Geoff Keighly suddenly spontaneous combust's into fire and cum.

Meh Example:
Nintendo developing a new Mario

Gabe coming on stage to announce Half Life 3 exclusively to Wii U to shit on all those Microsoft fans..

Fixed

also, I'm thinking that the next time we'll get massive news on the Wii U or any of it's games will be during the GDC. So, I might as well wait patiently unless any bullshit 4chan leaks come up, but those will probably be fake anyway.

Wow, even with the other WiiU threads, the comments have really died down. The universe feels at peace after Iwata made those announcements.
