Wii U Speculation Thread 2: Can't take anymore of this!!!

Right?!
My year long banning was pure torture.
Gotta be careful from now on.

It's more that certain types of port begging is bannable.
If a Mod feels that it derails or will derail a topic, then they can ban you.
Just saying "I'd like to see Game X on System Y" probably won't get you banned, though.

Ouch! You must have been very, very naughty Ace! What did you do?! :P

Sure, it would be longer, more boring and have tons more dialogue. I am amazed that there are people who would like to see a Zelda game where we get into the 1st dungeon 10 hours in the game.

Either you missed my sarcasm, or we are thinking exactly alike.
Some of the same people who were ball-licking Okami (which was a great game, btw, after the excruciating intro) were complaining in Zelda threads about the wolf intro to TP. And then the 2 hours of "boring dialogue" and "omg text too slow" and all that other stuff.

It took conscious effort on my part not to put Okami down time and time again because of how ... URGH it was for so long. The comparatively short intros in the last couple Zeldas were cake compared to that.

The thing I find oddest about this isn't even that people think it will be a quality title but that Retro will some how make a game sell amazingly well.

DKR certainly did well but even at the best of time's Metroid Prime did good but not lighting the charts on fire. Just odd how many times I've seen Gaffers say that Retro's games will be huge sellers, or that getting a Retro title out will be the big game for something. Nintendo has much bigger and more popular things then Retro's games.

Why should I give a flying fuck about the sales? Retro has released some of the best games that Nintendo has ever published. And if Nintendo has much bigger and popular stuff, then give it to Retro. They are top tier, and put most of NIntendos old league to shame.

Retro had nothing to do with that Zelda demo.
They are not working on Zelda (or, if they are, it's not their main project right now), that much has been made clear.

That Zelda demo was likely made by a small team within EAD.
It's the Nature Demo that is far more intriguing as to who was behind it.

*crosses arms*

Sorry Ace, I'm going to need a source for this one.

Because, it becomes important when people say shit like that in topics or conversations about games that need to appeal to wide audiences, that can grow a brand like Wii Fit, Brain Age or Mario titles.

Regardless of your or anyone elses love of Retro they have not in anyway had a game that has done this and there is no reason to believe that just giving a title to Retro will reach larger audiences or even a group as large as other hardcore Nintendo titles because thus far outside of DKR Retro's games haven't.

What exactly would a "Western" approach to Zelda even entail? Because if you are thinking Retro would turn Zelda into Skyrim then it wouldn't happen. Hell, Metroid Prime and DKCR don't even feel "Western," they feel like pure-blooded Nintendo games like they are supposed to...

Agreed.

1 month and it's GDC, then 3 months before E3.

I just hope GDC will bring something interesting.

prediction: More info on Nintendo Network. Investor meeting was to announce it (and NFC of course) it would make sense to expand on their plans on that front a bit more at GDC, and then at E3 focus on games, games, more games, price, launch date, games games, and finally games.

More info on NiN is a good bet, since it also concerns the 3DS.

Please, don't drop the ball on that one, Nintendo.

By that logic, Nintendo should definetly shift development of the next Zelda to another team, as Zelda is selling like shit right now, just like Mario Galaxy failed to reach expectations. Nintendo so far has given Retro brands that never really sold that well, and all of Retros games sold comparable or better to the ones that Nintendo Japan made.

Iwata isn't doing a keynote at GDC, which is where Nintendo news there has usually originated. Nintendo might be holding a press event in March (or even later this month) for all I know, but nothing has been announced AFAIK.

Actually no.

Skyward Sword is at 3.5 million which is is almost better then all three Prime's together and TP crushes them.

The only argument for Retro doing better then NoJ is Other M. Aside from that Super did very well as did Fusion.

Yeah as far as I can tell there is like 1 Nintendo employee scheduled to speak at GDC and its just a random programmer at an AI talk.

Given the current pattern, we'll probably get a new Nintendo Direct around the end of March to cover FY2013Q1

I will be disappointed if retail title downloads aren't at least ¥300 cheaper than the release day Amazon price.

Iwacchi said:
Some argue that a downloadable version to be sold at the same price as the MSRP (Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price) of a packaged version is not competitive because packaged software is often sold at a lower price than the MSRP. Downloadable versions that are too cheap will create a different problem, while no one will want to buy games online at a price that is too expensive.

I hope they sort it out before June.

It would be the first time in a few years that Nintendo doesn't have any kind of press event/keynote at GDC, though. I'd be sad. :(

I feel like Retro is to Nintendo fans the way Naughty Dog is to Sony fans. They each have a fair amount of clout even outside of Nintendo/PlayStation circles so it's easier from a social standpoint to hype them up.

Personally, I prefer HAL and IS, two very underrated studios. Although the latter has been REALLY disappointing for a while now.

There are a lot of influences from System Shock and Half Life felt in MP, especially in terms of how storytelling and the mood are set up.

Completely agree.

Actually, I'd love to see Zelda following both approaches.

Two Zelda games per generation:
- One with a more western approach.
- One in Miyazaki style.

[/wishful thinking]

Why do you think they released the timeline?

No, I thought they said after E3 and before the holidays.

OK, anyway I think it was almost a given by now they launched after E3, since we haven't seen anything yet - not even a single actual screenshot - otherwise it would have been the stealthiest console launch ever with such a short notice...

"Release on time for the critical year-end sales season."

That tells me it will be released in time for the Holiday seasons.

ShockingAlberto should just tell everyone, and by everyone I mean me, everything he knows. That would be sweet tits.

As an actual fan of IS, Pushmo, however good it is, isn't what I asked for.

This is an odd stance to take, They should never do something new or surprise you? Only make things that are already within the realms of your pre-existing expectations of them? And that supposedly makes you an "actual fan" of them?

Did I miss something?

I vote for continental repesentatives.

Maybe he doesn't like puzzle games
